I look at the match up between Chavez and Martinez and I just keep coming back to Martinez vs Margarito. I try to rationalize how Martinez has just changed since that fight as far as the weight, experience, the margarito hand wrap factor, but it doesn't change my opinion that the chavez fight can be a similar situation if one important factor plays a role. If you go back and really look at the fight between Martinez and Margo you notice that Martinez's offense and movement was as good then as it is now. He was using the angles, the hands down, the same combinations your used to seeing from Maravilla. You think about the factors that went into Margarito getting the TKO over Martinez that day and it just makes the Chavez fight more of a toss up. In the Margarito fight Martinez wasn't hurting him. Margaro was walking him down, getting caught clean on many occasions but never seemed fazed by Martinez's punches, movement or akward style. Now people might think that a major factor in that fight was that Margarito was possibly using illegal hand wraps, and it might be so I also take that into consideration. How that translates to a chavez, martinez match up is that Chavez's weight advantage over most middleweights has allowed him to overpower them and ultimately break them down so the fact that Martinez is a small middleweight doesn't make him immune to that possibility. Now the most important factor going in to this fight will be Chavez's chin. Can it hold up? He's gotten hit with some vicious shots and hasn't been remotely shaken, but I believe Martinez will be the hardest puncher he has ever faced, not to mention he will probably get tagged often. Ultimately I think that if Martinez doesn't get Chavez's respect early or faze him with clean shots then it might be Deja Vu for him.
The Margarito fight was so long ago im not sure how relvant it is. Its abit like saying Pacquiao was blown away by Singursat and Torrencampo so anyone should be able to to beat him now.
Marg was probabaly cheating in that fight and Serrgio was far from the established and polished world class performer he has now become. I can see the similarities between Chavez and Marg. Chavez is stronger and Marg faster. It will be sthe same type of fight aswel. Lets hope team Martinez push for drug testing and enforce weight making rules otherwise I can see whats coming from Chavez who has a history of blatant disregard for rules.
Prime Tony probably would stop Jr.
I don't think anyone's beard can hold up to actual concrete gloves.

And look......why would Arum schedule a PPV on the same night as another PPV? Any guesses? Anyone? It's so he can use that as an excuse to not make the fight and move Chavez up to 168.....jut like Ariza said last week.....read between the lines.
Dude won't take mandated drug tests, why would he man up to fight Martinez? It's easy to talk a big game when you know you are safe and protected. Sergio knows he will phuking destroy Chavez, the hyped up slug knows it too.
I think Arum will use Sergio as a way to stick it to Golden Boy. They will do better numbers than Canelo/Ortiz, guaranteed.

LMAO...comparing a rookie with 17 total fights under his belt to the guy that is knocking out some of the best fighters in the world. Sergio will keep his distance and tag the wide open Chavez with ease. Chavez is a grinder...if he can't get you up against the ropes he is toast and Martinez is an excellent technical boxer, Chavez is a wide open slug who will take tremendous punishment and Roach will probably throw in the towel for him.
you're comparing two different monsters...putting my personal feelings aside towards Margarito and speaking as a fanatic of the sport of I could say Junior wouldn't of stood a chance against Margarito...Tony wins in 8 TKO...that said they nothing alike
Mushybrain these are things that are true about Jr.
Low hands- check
consistantly off balance- not true about Jr or Martinez (more ackward, yes)
average hand speed -check
world class opposition- incomplete, Jr has never faced a world class opponent(please don't even try Andy Lee)
Dude theres a reason why team Chavez has consistantly ducked Martinez- Jr can't beat him!
Mushy, do you think the fight will really happen?
Jr comes in with a massive size advantage. That is the only reason he has any slim chance in this fight. Sergio is better in every other way. Oh, and Margarito fights nothing like Jr, and This Sergio would rape that Margarito. You know how Jr didn't have the amateur experience a lot of guys do? Same goes for Sergio. Margarito caught him green. Jr On the other hand...
is this fight even signed? because when arum was asked about it all he said was that they had an "agreement." He never said they have signed the papers if im not mistaken.
If sergio isnt shot yet i cannot see how such a limited boxer like jr. can beat sergio.
Mushybrain, you say Jr will defeat Martinez easily. What leads you to that conclusion? In boxing terms please, not this Jr wins cuz he's my boyfriend crap you always spew
I'm not making my comparison based off of styles...I'm going with the moment....I compare Chavez Jr-Martinez to Tito-Hopkins....I know Tito was the smaller dude naturally and Chavez will be the much bigger dude but I'm seeing certain similiar things about Chavez and Tito just like I'm seeing similiar things in Martinez and Hopkins....Chavez looked more deadly against Lee than Sergio looked against Macklin....just like Tito looked more like God against Joppy than B.Hop looked against Holmes leading up to their clash
Chavez is unbeaten like Tito was and Martinez is the much older fighter just like B.hop was...the ORIGINAL date for B.Hop vs Tito was Sept 15 as well....at the end of the day, the young unbeaten power puncher was tailor-made for the older slicker REAL MW champ....same ish 11 years later...Martinez is gonna take Jr. to school and get him outta there late...daddy rescues son yet again!!! :boxing:
I also said the are differences in their styles
But at the end of the day, Chavez will destroy the bike of Sergio with the body shots
Chavez= The Best Body puncher in the game today
The similarities between Margarito and Chavez begin and end in the Mexican Fajador Style, altough they use it differently, but the finality of it is the same
Make your opponent your puta, cutting the ring, destroying the legs, and making it a dog fight, Martinez will have a deja vu, count on it ;)

He can't box from the outside & he is useless at mid-range, he comes in face first with not a care in the world for defense. Sergio isn't going to get trapped on the ropes and let the overrated swarmer go to work & try fight his fight like the rather plain Andy Lee.
Sergio will pepper the fcuk out of him from the outside.
His speed, his movement, power, timing, too much everything for the one-dimensional bully.
He'll beat his fcukin' ass with his jab alone.
The only thing he has on Sergio is weight and he won't be getting close enough to apply that advantage he has.
He has a tighter defense than Marg that's for sure
I'm pretty sure Marg was getting hit less when he faced the level of opposition Chavez is facing. He only ate a lot of punches when he faced top P4P fighters.

Martinez has 100X more mobility than Andy Lee, yet it took Chavez Jr around 5 rounds to consistently hit him.
Also a lot of this depends of the size of the ring. Is it going to be another tiny ring? Or are they actually going to fight in a decent ring?
Oh, and Martinez has a lot more power than he had when he lost against Margarito. Since he moved to 160 he has increased his strength so his opponents now respect a lot more his punching power. In order to land one body shot he's going to receive at least 2 or 3 hard punches from Maravilla.
