James Kirkland injured his shoulder while training this a.m. and has pulled out of his Sept. 15 fight vs. Canelo Alvarez at MGM in Vegas.

Kirkland's manager Cameron Dunkin confirmed the news. "He's absolutely sick about it." Kirkland was scheduled to make around $3 million.
Boxing has the worst luck...
I don't think GBP is in trouble...But, maybe the WBC??? Vanes already talking about the suing the WBC...If Lara doesn't get it he should do it too.
Lara can sue GBP to get out of the contract saying that they don't have his best interest if they give the fight to a fighter outside of GBP.
Tha's what I was thinking, I sent a message to his wife stating this...
The fight won't be staged in Mexico it would be U.S...Canelo-Lara great fight doesn't do 300k.
The only thing I know that GBP is in big $h1t now after Sulaiman announce the fight to be a mandatory, if they don't take Vanes or Lara they will be open for a law sued and no judge will be sympathetic to neither one of them, Sulaiman-GBP...
Yup, that's what Golden Boy wants hear....
I think for this PPV 100k will not cut it...I think their goal might be 300K maybe even 250k Cotto-Mosley PPV buys.
You not counting the millions of Mexicans spread out on the USA if the fight is staged in Mexico plus others fans of the game they will make 300 000 easily...
The WBC just made Kirkland the mandatory. Are they going to give Canelo another mandatory now. The winner of the last eliminator? The #1 contender? Lara? Nope.
Check the last 10 years PPV events for Mexican Independence Day weekend. Oscar/Godlen Boy were part of all those. That's their date...They're not moving from that date.
October is reserved for Chavez Jr-Martinez PPV. Whether the fight happens or not...It is reserved
November is reserved for Pac against possibly JMM IV.
Golden Boy is not moving from a traditional date man.
This.
They don't care about making Canelo P4P elite fight now...They just care about marketing him and building his star potential. To make the Floyd event the biggest it could possibly be...Having an 0 next to his record will help that cause.
Besides, if Canelo beats floyd, and I have always believed he would be the guy who exsposes an older floyd, the p4p stuff will take care of itself.
People need to realize Canelo can fight floyd, cotto, sergio, chavez jr, kahn. Canelo will be the dominant ppv fighter for the next 5-10 years if everything breaks right.
I never heard anything about this "dibs" stuff. Business is business. Give the fight fans what they want; which is a healthy Kirk vs a healthy Canelo. I never heard anything about that "dibs" stuff you're talking about.
That's the problem.
I'm not sure why Canelo's getting kudo's for attempting to fight a hurt Kirkland.
Because its about building towards a floyd canelo fight, its not about Canelo's skills etc. He has another 10 years to build his legacy. This is about GBP building this fight into a 1.5 mil ppv or better event.
Technically, I have a fan base.
I'm talking about a fan base capable of generating mass views/buys.
I'll say about 100 000 fans will buy the event, but since Miami is the unofficial hacking information of the world, I'll say about two millions will be watching the fight without paying...
he has a fan base, stop with that BS we Cubans love boxing just as we love baseball, bring the fight to miami and the stadium will be full or if you do it in mexico we will buy the ppv...

Lara is another Paul Williams, in that... incredibly hard to fight, and no real gain.
What's he going to get out of it?
Nobody outside of us knows Lara, he brings no money, no fan base, and he's very skilled.

I would wait until the Trout-Rodriguez fight now, the winner of that fight would probably be a better option than Lara.
The winner of Bundrage-Spinks could also work but that would cost them a month of waiting and that is not likely to be a scintillating fight, but whoever won would be an easy mark for Canelo.
There is always Vanes, if Top Rank is willing to contract him out~
TBH I rather have that on PPV than take a chunk out of HBO budget. HBO can save their money and make better fights like a Pirog-Golovkin, Froch-Kessler II and whatever.
Let that be the PPV...And, lets be honest do P-Will or Kirkland bring more PPV buys than what a Quintana could bring. If they sell the Mexican-Puerto Rican rivalry for the Mexico next big thing on Mexican Independence Day? I don't think so...No doubt P-Will and Kirkland are bigger threats and better fighters. But, can you sell it and promote it? Quintana having that "showcase" on the biggest PPV of the year..
Can be sold and promoted.
True but HBO's budget should be able to sustain a Canelo/Quintana. I think they actually spend more by producing a 24/7 which they will surely need to. QUintana is not really a well known "puerto rican".
Caros Quintana should NEVER EVER EVER be in the headlining fight of a PPV. I think Kev is right, its very hard to get me to purchase that fight.
I honestly was going to buy the Canelo-Williams PPV.
I was going to watch Canelo-Kirkland on a stream.
I will not watch Canelo-Quintana at all.
That's you though Kev.
You know what he's saying.

I personally don't think Canelo vs Trout is PPV worthy, maybe to us the hardcore fans but not appealing to anyone outside of it.
Agreed but
