That commentators that never fought should not be commentating. He said how can they be called experts when they never fought.
Then that possie uncle tom interviewer didnt really follow up.
I disagree with him and think that he is just mad cause Larry owned him and has been owning him for years. I rewatched the inteview and Larry did nothing wrong. Floyd knew the Pac question was coming up and instead chose to act like a little 3 year old that got his toy taken away.
What do you all think?
i disagree you dont have to be a fighter to follow, study and understand the sport.but you dont have to attack a fighter after everyone one of their fights either
larryx...i think, prima donnas, like fmj, look for too much sympathy, when it comes to situations, that they don't have any control over...what fmj is saying, in so many words, is fmj, doesn't like how larry merchant interviews him, so hbo should get rid of him...larryx, maybe fmj, should take a history lesson, and watch how muhammad ali, used to deal with the tough questions, that howard cosell, would throw at him...most people remember, muhammad ali and howell cosell, being mad comedy, because they were on opposite ends of the spectrum, but on the low, howard cosell, was muhammad ali's worst nightmare, because howard cosell, had balls of steel, and didn't ballwash muhammad ali...
Who is doing the announcing for the NFL on Fox? Ex Pros or Joes? There you go.
I like Gabe Montoya and Steve Kims approach. They will occasionally train and spar. Helps them get a grasp on what their job really is. Understand a fighters mentality. Understand the sacrifice of each camp and the risks that come with each fight.
Just like what anyone would expect. Floyd fans agree, non-Floyd fans don't. You'll rarely see objective, unbiased opinions nowadays. The ass kissing will always manifest.
Just look at George Foreman or Lennox. They're two of the best ever but they often sound borderline retarded when they try to talk about whats going on in a fight.
Whenever Big George did fights, my dad used to mute the TV. It never failed.

Floyd is right merchant doesnt know what goes on in the ring, he can have opinion on it but thats it. Roy has corrected him many times, on why a fighter was doing a certain things etc
tredh, if i was a boxer, on fmj's level, and i just won the fight, and know that, as soon as i finish that 2 or three minutes in that post-fight inverview, that I was cashing a check for 20 million or so dollars for an hour's worth of work, tredh, that player hating interviewer, can say what he wants, about my performance, because i'm still the boss player, as long as i won, and I'm counting way more cash, than he is on that night, and probably future nights, my man, but thats just me...tredh, in life, most of us work crappy jobs for bum paychecks, and have to deal with far worse people on a day to day basis, than larry merchant...real talk...lol
speaking directly, regarding post-fight interviews involving floyd mayweather jr, and larry merchant, larry merchant, will always start off the interview by congratulating fmj on his victory, and point out the positives in the performance, but larry merchant, honestly, can't just sit there and ballwash floyd mayweather jr. either...it seems to me, that the hbo brass, seems to support larry merchant's style of interviewing, larry merchant, has been with hbo for years, probably before floyd mayweather jr., was born, so its up to floyd mayweather jr., to maintain his composure, and be able to mack his way out of the situation....that's not to say tredh, that you are wrong in your opinion...
The bold is 100% true I give you that. That is why I also said maybe that is Merchant's job cause he has done it for years and HBO hasn't made him change it. Suprised they allow Lampley to call fights completely wrong though. I swear if a person had to hear Lampley call a fight only by listening on the radio or if a person was blind Lampley would have them thinking the wrong person was winning.
There are a lot of regular fans that never have boxed. Having a commentator that never has fought is not a problem in my eyes and commenting what is going on in the ring like a fan relates to most viewers.
Most boxers turned commentators throw too much in their comments a comparison with themselves that gets annoying sometimes. But you do have a few of them that are very good.
Floyd was trying to thank the viewers for buying the PPV and Larry got on his neck right away. The questions were fine but he just should had let Floyd thank the public and ask him what happened in there and then go with his line of questions.
Poorly done if you ask me

very good points......
people who earn their keeps and big money by trading punches; a job that entails hitting and being hit should show more resilience during post fight interviews...
commentators may say or ask a lot of things; just as a fighter's opponents may throw so many punches coming from all directions....just part of the game...of life,,,,
Floyd has a point. Merchant's treatment of black fighters at the top of the sport, ALi, FLoyd, Roy, TYson, has always been problematic. His bias is clear as soon as the interviews begin. He has never been in the ring but criticizes people for not brawling and taking a beating. That is wrong IMO.
But you could see floyd looking at schaeffer a few times and then went off before Merchant could ask about manny! It looked staged. But Larry was likley to do his usual crap so I even though I didn't agree with the actions I get it.
Merchant is an idiot no doubt but lets not overgeneralize here. He's one guy one announcer, Floyd's comment is ridiculously stupid, A commentator does not have to have played the sport to be considered a good commentator.
You've only got listen to Merchant during a fight to realise he knows **** all about boxing. HBO only keep him to stir **** up with his questioning.you have to be an idiot to say he doesnt know boxing, after all this years?let me guess, you know more than him..
I don't think its the question being asked I think its the way the questions are worded and the tone used. If you trained for months on end and won a fight. I think you too would take offense to some guy who never fought in his life talking down to you about your performance. How he didn't like it and telling you how he feels you should have fought regardless of the outcome. Thats disrespectful and uncalled for. Merchant has every right to have an opinion but its not his right to use the HBO broadcast to tell his opinion to everyone watching cause its not his job to do that. If I'm wrong about that being his job then I stand corrected.

Listen bro. I never said they had be a high level pro. I said they need to have competed. Larry Merchant doesn't know **** about boxing, he knows about fighters, he knows about the history of fighters. Judging talent is a different thing altogether than properly analyzing a fight or a fighters skills. Blatant talent (ex/ Floyd) is obvious and basically anyone can identify it.
Also, being a good trainer vs. being an "expert" on boxing do not always go hand-in-hand. ex/ Roch is considered one of the best trainers, yet his predictions on many fights turn out to be way off so he is probably not the best at analyzing fights and how certain styles will play out
Floyd probably could get Obama to bring his belt into the ring, Obama is a bit of a joke president anyways often getting far too involved with sports.
I just named legends in the sport that never fought and you ignored my point. You don't have to do something to be an expert at it if you have studied it long enough and been around it for many years.
Also, predictions are another story all together. Nobody knows what is going to happen in a fight, that's why we have them.
And if you think Floyd could get the most powerful man in the free world to "carry his belts" you are an idiot. You may not like Obama, but the man is the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
He's kind of an important person...lol. I think he's a little busy that night to carry Floyds Belts.
Man...floyd and his fans keep crying over Larry Merchant.. just because Larry asks questions Floyd doesn't want to answer. Watch the interview again..Larry says nothing wrong, he praises Floyd. Floyd in my opinion was looking for a reason to blow up. It created a little side feud with larry that had been building up for years..
It's not so much about Larry's questions, it's about him constantly throwing snide remarks at certain Boxers(Lennox Lewis, Roy Jones Jr, Floyd Jr, ect) even when the opportunity doesn't present itself. I've never really had any problems with Larry being a straightforward interviewer, however, he does tend to show favoritism to certain Boxers and sugar-coat his questions when he's interviewing them.
I thought I had read that. Wasn't dissing Andrade just joking around. Messed up when things like that happen.
Yeah it is, but at the same time, like the ref always says, gotta throw some punches! A lot of guys just cover up and that doesn't help the cause haha.

Calling Michael Dyson an uncle tom is nothing short of ignorant. If you had any clue you'd know that. As far as Floyd's statement, most of you on here are taking it literally. What he is saying is compared to someone that actually boxes for a living those that comment are not nor can be experts. The real experts are those that actually box. It's like someone who is an aficionado of music but has never played an instrument telling Slash, Prince or Clapton how to play. No matter how much studying or collecting or research they've done, they are not on the same level and therefore are NOT experts. I admit, Floyd is not the most articulate person but damn. Some of you get on here talking $h!t all day and running your mouths calling men who fight for a living pu$$y,b1tches and all sorts of BS knowing full well if either Manny or Floyd knocked on your door you wouldn't say nada! Those that claim they would will be the first to sue once their chins got checked for talking $h1t. Personally, I like Merchant. I think he's funny as hell.
