i hate to see some of the things us boxers have to do to lose weight. Ive seen crazy things from wearing ppl garbage bags under layers of clothes to chewing tons of gum and spitting it out or even hours in th sauna days before the fight! I remember even i use to make the shower room a steam room then jump rope for hours just to try and drop off pounds lol Its time we all educate ourselves on how to properly lose weight while still having proper nutrition. I just think about all the fighters who had amazing talent who lost fights not because this person wasnt the better boxer, but by simply being too drained in weak to perform at their best. how many of us can relate ???
Making weight means being at a weight where your are at top physical, mental and healthy shape, which is not determine by your size/height. It's determine on how much body fat and muscle mass you have. I agree that boxer and their trainers have to be educated in nutrition and weight loss. This is the difference between being a professional athlete and being a mediocre athlete. Knowledge is POWER!
Fighters *****ing about being drained get no sympathy from me.
Marvin Hagler, Tommy Hearns, Sugar Ray Leonard, the Best Mugabi, all bigger guys, never had problems making weight and were doing same day weigh ins even when they didnt have fights they would work out and jog to stay in shape, and walked around only 10 pounds above their fight weight year round. That is discipline, guys today are lazy after a fight they follow the Duran and Lamotta route and pig out and let themselves go, fighters back in the day never let themselves go until they retired!
Hmmm what?
Bad Examples, both Pacquiao and Mayweather cut a pretty decent amount weight when they fought at lightweight and below
Idiot when Floyd fought at 130, he would come in at 131-135 on fight night. Meaning at that time he was actually walking around in the low 130s already. Pacquiao however, was coming in at 143-147 in his 130 fights.
Even at his advanced age of 35 years old, Floyd comes in only at 150lbs for his 147 fights. And for Judah he actually came in on fight night at exactly 147, while weighing 146 on the scales, if I remember correctly. He also says he will come in under 154 for the Cotto fight on the scales.
If you don't know what you're talking about, don't talk out of your ass, making sh*t up.
Your racism never ceases to amaze me. If I were to ask you to post any evidence of me ever giving ANY type of indication that I am a fan of Rios, you wouldn't be able to provide any. I'm posting a thread that doesn't involve Mayweather or Pacquiao and you still find a way to be a moron. Get laid homie. A women's touch has a way of calming the soul.
good post.
it's not just the same day weigh in that kept fighters light and kept them from gaining all the weight, though it's clearly responsible for much of it
part of it is also the schedules. the top fighters in the world only fight twice, perhaps three times a year at the most. often circumstances come along that will keep a fighter out of the ring for a year or more. even a top one.
greb fought 37 times in 1917.

fooking stupid post by jacobs, if fighters go through all that **** n still struggle to make weight, that aint because of bad nutrition and bad knowledge,
thats cus that somebody is fighting in the wrong weight class.
move up!
MMA fighter tries to cut 24 lbs in 24 hours. Even though it's MMA I would imagine it is the same for boxing or any other sport.
24 pounds in 24 hours? That cant be good for your body at all and the sad part is they think its perfectly normal instead of just calling off the fight.
Felt sorry for the guy.
Thats how MFs get brain damage. Go into a fight in that mental state? in that physical state? damn.
Cool vid though

to be fair not every fighter is lazy and pigs out after a fight.
Until they actually bring same day weigh ins on fight night then I can't see it every changing. Fighters are always going to look for an edge.

Yes am racist moron, I dislike ignorant fools like yourself, Now that rios fails to make weight you want to enlighten us with Danny jacobs thought huh? Well only morons like yourself need to be enlighten to know the effects of having to drain your body, If you have ever been a boxer whether Amatuer or pro then you would have known this little facts when I use to say this same ***** to your ignorant assss a couple of years ago, So phuck your racism ***** your plank!!!
Damnn, all these professional fighters aren't going to get sympathy from HECTARI the BoxingScene poster? That's a little harsh, how will they go on? :burnout:
Unlike you, I don't use the drained excuse to discredit someones wins or to give credit to why they lost. No one forces a fighter to drain themselves they signed the contract out of their own free will, hence I have no sympathy for these fighters blaming them being drained for why they lost, well don't sign the contract or negotiate a better weight than.
I dont think it's a coincidence that the 3 best fighters in the sport Pac, Mayweather

If you were too drained on fight night it is your fault. I agree with the poster that says boxers just need to be fighting at weight classes they are comfortable at.
Another reason why Freddy Roach would drain his fighters opponent before they get in the ring with his fighters, We have dumb and ignorant people who would say "But he weigh 1 pound less" than his previous fight... Now that Bam bam is going through the same thing 2501 wants to quote Jacobs? Okay

Maybe they should actually fight at a weight class they're comfortable at as opposed to trying to duck fighters their own size...? Same day weigh-ins are much needed.
They are not trying to duck fighters they are trying to be the bigger man in the fight because their attributes as are fighter is lacking , maybe no power or not much boxing skills etc , or they are trying to make a draining weight to secure a mega fight.
Its a fine line to what a fighter can make and what he cant , when you are on your personal edge it only takes a pound or two to really hurt you , its like many things in this world where people take risks to gain something , and sometimes it bites them in the ass , ODH was the worst case of a dehydrated weight drained fighter Ive ever seen is such a big fight .
