Yeah he beat Rios easily. But do you guys like his style of fighting?? Me personally, I hate fighters who try and win by points like that. I know Bam Bam is an idiot sometimes and understand how people hate him but he is an exciting fighter who likes to give fans an exciting fight. That being said, Richard Abril is a great technical fighter but his style of fighting is ugly to watch and belongs more in the amateur circuit. So do most people praising Abril like to see him hold and box his way to bigger fights? Not me people his style was very unpleasent to my eyes, im still trying to recover from watching him hild his way to victory. Remember people styles make fights and Abril would make any fighter look bad but do you really like watching that ****t again??
idk if anybody has mentioned it yet but maybe it was abril's height that also seemed to anoy ppl, that was one lanky individual and was harder to hit especially as rios punches didnt have that much effect on abril as rios better punches are short range punches like the ones he throws when he finds himself in a phonebooth.
It seems that Abril has a lot of fans on here though.. His style of fightng makes me want to watch baseball instead. I literally keot flippin the channels while the fight was on.
Same happened to me, I was doing stuff on the computer and the few bits I watched it was all about Abril running and trying to survive the storm so it never got my full attention. I guess I missed all the parts where Abril did something.
NOPE. I saw Abril holding every time Rios got close, hitting off the break, doing some sissy ass shoulder fighting, pitty patting Rios' gloves....while Rios was being the aggressor, working on the inside and getting grabbed every 10-15 seconds. Close fight to me - I had Rios winning simply because Abril didn't do enough. All these cats coming into fights with this "hold em" mentality need to find another profession.
I am a Rios fan but I am not sticking up for him because of that, I am also an Ortiz fan and I recognize he is a dumb fighter, a quitter, suspect chin and unstable but I like him more then Rios.
See I am an honest guy I ca say the truth about fighters i like.
But not when they lose, if he really won then why so many fans and writers are complaining? It was a poll among writers and out of 77 only 4 gave the fight to Rios, 3 were Mexicans and the other a pay Arum's employee
yea i chose my words wrong, not the same impact, Abril did land cleaner punches but i feel the punches Rios through along with his output and pressure is what won him the fight.
what won him the fight was two corrupt judges...
Abril style isn't that bad, he needs to throw more punches in order to have the judges blessing. His defense worked good against Rios. I've seen worst styles (John Ruiz).
Abril was robbed first and foremost. I have never been one to complain about what a winner did. I will always talk about what the loser did not do to change what the winner was doing that was working for him. Rios lost that fight because his skill level is very low and he has no ring intelligence. None of those things are Abril's fault or problem. It doesn't matter how you win just win and you try to make things more fan friendly the next time out lord willing.
Did Abril clinch hell yes he did but all those clinches were not initiated by Abril, Rios was clinching and holding as well. That head down bully brawling style can only get a fighter but so far and Rios is fast approaching his ceiling if he doesn't start to change somethings with his fight game. You can't bully everybody and you can't outbrawl everybody and we can see he is not going to outbox no one.
I can't say I liked it but I can't say I had a problem with what Abril was doing either.
Yeah Rios got owned but he was trying to fight while Abril was clinching and holding his way to victory. Cant believe so may people on here like that kind of style in boxing. By the way I never saw Martinez opponent trying to hold and clinch very often, did you??
I voted Yes, but not because I particularly liked the way Abril fought, but that he had a gameplan, stuck to it and dominated with it. He was able to adapt, change gears and completely neutralize anything Rios tried to do
Rios just came head on. It makes for great ESPN level of fights, but at the world class stage, I like seeing strategy, gameplans, use of the rings, footwork, defense and all that jazz. Rios just couldn't adapt and got that ass tapped.
Abril is a boxer, and he proved that he's a damned competent one at that. He knew he wasn't ever going to win the fight if he fought the way Rios would have wanted to. Rios has been punched in the head upwards of a million times and probably won't be rattled by anything someone who doesn't have phenomenal KO power will throw. So Abril did what he had to do: he outboxed him at a distance, controlled the pace of the fight, and either wrapped Rios up when it had to go inside or went into a shell and made it so Rios couldn't land any effective shots.
It's Rios' fault that he could not adapt to ****. He has close to no technical skill and should have lost the decision. I am one of the few guys who picked Abril to win, based on the little I saw of him and the fact that I knew Rios is severely limited. Plus, seeing that look of confidence and total calm on Abril's face before the fight signaled to me that he was game as hell. Didn't disappoint.
Anybody who thinks Rios won is insane. Whether you liked Abril's style or not, he's the one who scored the clear shots and Rios scored next to none, and looked like **** the entire time. Abril (and by the way, Herrera) got himself some new fans last night.
No one is debating wether Abril won.. I myself agree that Abril won, but the question is, Do you like how Abril fights??

I agree that BamBam was outboxed and lost this fight. However. Abril got away with so much bullsh1t that it aint even funny. Vic did a poor job of reffin the fight IMO.
Agree with you 100 percent homie.. Yeah rios lost the fight but Abril has an ugly ass style to watch and will never do ****t or have any followers. I bet he could not fill a ****en YMCA in the heart of Miami with that bull****t ass style!! The ones who really lost were the fans, I love boxing but had trouble watching the fight, I had to flipp the channels and watch someting else every so often just to finish watching the whole fight. I knew with the style Abril was fighting I would not be missin **** if i changed the channel..
i liked it. a very intelligent fighter. outboxed him on the outside, took away his inside game and actually scored more shots inside with those sneaky rights.
what i didn't like was how rios did basically the opposite- just aimlessly walking forward, no control of anything, couldn't even create a tiny bit of space to work, was looking at the floor the majority of the time, flailing with weak shots that he was way too close to land. utter sh*te.
it wasn't an exciting fight but it wasn't as bad as watching ward or bhop imo. i don't remember abril clinching excessively so i can't give him a lot of crap. bottom line though is he fought a smart fight and deserved the win. but from a fan who wants entertaining fights' standpoint, i'm glad rios gets to keep his 0 because he's no doubt an exciting fighter and i would want to see him continue to take on the top guys that won't be afraid to give the fans a good show.
People like you are a cancer to the sport. It is why Bob Arum can pull this sh*t off and get away with it.
