You can't fight everybody, there would be some that would miss out for one genuine reason or the other, Would have love to see Pacquiao against Raheem though but the money/history in a morales rematch was too much to ignore.
this...
there are plenty in history where potentially great fights just didnt happen...
duran-cervantes, cuevas-palomino, toney-hopkins, hatton-witter, pedroza-sanchez, lopez-carbajal and to a lesser extent, katsidis-barrios, linares-guerrero... u get the point...

What difference does that make?
Where is Zahir Raheem these days?
Zahir still kicked Morales' asss and Paquiao avoided him like he owed that man money.
Your point is flawed.
Pac was scheduled to fight Morales next as Morales did beat Pacquaio not Zahir Raheem. After Pac beat Morales in second fight. Zahir was scheduled to fight Frietas and later lost to him. So your point is much flawed.
TS, I know Guzman personally what drug use are you talking about? The diuretics he took or drugs like coke and the like? Because if it's the latter, don't talk smack and speculate. Joan's problem has always been food. Even at gleason's everybody knows his vices would be lots of food and lots of playstation.
Bob Arum felt Guzman was boring vs soto.even tho he said the winner gets pac.and even the commentators were talking about the 2 bding matched up.all in all it was a duck by arum and tesm pac.roach said Guzmans style is very difficult and tricky.funny cuz bradley has a similar style and he can pull it off.So props to manny for finally taking on a slick boxer
No it was not necessary at all. He wasn't force into anything. You act like JMM wouldn't have fought him if he wasn't his mandatory...GTFOH. That rematch was totally unecessary plus Guzman also had a title. He could had fought Guzman and then unify with JMM in the next fight. But, no, he chose to fight a way past prime fighter that was coming off a loss instead of an undefeated highly ranked title holder.
Lol @ Pac ducking Cotto.
War unnecessary rematches
Oh cmon man. It was completely necessary and it had nothing to do with whether or not marquez would fight him. It had to do with barrera at the time being just as deserving as pac at a shot at marquez. Barrera had just lost a very competitive fight that he wouldve won if the knockdown he scored had counted. Although barrera was past his best he was still very much considered elite and still ranked 5th p4p by ring magazine at the time of the pac rematch. Guzman at best was very promising yet largely irrelevant at the time. Especially with his ko% becoming almost non existant after moving up from 126.
this has got to be a ****in joke right? TS is accusing Pac of ducking Guzman??? This website needs to stop members with red k from making threads for reals
Read if you know how it say's did he duck him? meaning I asked a question
Before all the weight problems and drug use? Did manny duck this very fast slick counter puncher?
Never put the BUMS name Guzman in the same sentence with Pacman.. Guzman was a bum, where is he today? I rest my case..
the david diaz fight was a ****ty fight for manny, ppl acuse floyd of fighting baldomir over margarito and of fighting hatton over cotto but pac fighting david diaz over campbell or casamyor was just as bad.
I don't see it that way. People are picking Manny on not fighting Raheem because he beat Morales .... which was dumb if one knows the facts .... but Diaz beat Morales too ....
So fighting a 135 champ who just beat Morales and it being Manny's FIRST fight at that weight and beating him the way he did was pretty decent. He could have fought others after that once he saw how well he did against Diaz BUT Oscar called him up to fight at 147 .... so those other fights never happened.
Instead, Floyd has been at 147 forever but never fought some of those guys you mentioned for whatever reason it is ..... kind of different, if you ask me .... Manny was at 135 for 1 fight only!
yeah. duck. even pacman would say who the hell is joan guzman. they are better opportunities out there. money etc. nobody care about this guy, risk is more than the achievement type of fight. see what happened to him now. people must really learn what duck is before making threads like this, when u chose cotto over mosley, it isnt a duck like most people say again here about pac.. pac is a natural 140 fighter, and he's being bashed because he doesnt want to fight cotto at 154 while floyd did, and thats just because floyd is bigger. pac would beat cotto 10 out of 10 times at any weight though IMO but before the fight negotiations we all know nobody want to see pac-cotto II but then floydstans are now using it to hype their fight, but lets just give credit where its due.
Be more specific .
He refused to fight hagler for 3years and still refused to fight him without a bigger ring. He also made lalonde put up his 175lb title at a weight limit of 168lbs.
According to the dumbass logic you apply to pac then leonard is in fact not a great fighter but the definition of a ducker
Nate Campbell or Joel Casamayor would have been good fights, better than David Diaz. Casamayor was the RING LW champion after beating Corrales, and had beat Cruz and Katsidis after that. Campbell had beaten Juan Diaz to win the WBO, WBA, and IBF LW titles.
Totally agree that these were ducks but he will never get criticized like Floyd. I agree that Manny is a warrior are atleast thats how Top Rank has his image, but they have choosen a strategic path for his career and I also thank Mayweather chose a strategic path as well when he moved up. Did it make good business since. Yes look at the amount of money PAC and Floyd make right now.
I dont see how Paul Williams and Berto arent on the duck list for Pac as well as Mosley after the Margarito win. Mosley was the lineal champion and margarito, clottey and Cotto all got shots but Mosley whom didnt fight for Top Rank didnt get a shot until he defected from Golden Boy. This is called the old Don King method where the promoter ensures he has the rights of the winner.
Manny is a good fighter but his wins over Morrales, Barrera, Oscar and Molsey are overrated and none where in there prime. I still cant believe he hasnt beaten Marquez and he himself has stated that he really wants no part of Marquez. He has been exposed and I dont really see how he gets away with a controversial win like that and dont avenge it. If it was Floyd like the Ortiz fight he would be crucified. Pacquaio to me is great match-making and crowd pleasing style. Roach has did his best to transform him into an all around fighter but theres only so much he can do. The wars and action packed fights have taken there toll on Pacquaio and what does he have to fall back on like a Marquez who is ring astute and savy enough to work behind the jab, counter eventhough he isnt as quick are as powerful a puncher.
Let's assume Pac ducked Guzman. Where is he now?
Do you have to fight superstar Manny to become somebody? Or just fight your own fights and make a name for yourself? I like Guzman's style, btw. He fights just like the Pacman.
werd, he fights just like him. last time i saw him fight, i was thinking, "damn, this is pacman reincarnated."

If I want to use a real standard no he did not, it would have been a cool fight to happen but it just didn't.
If I want to use the standard some use, yes he did.
The first one is more reasonable.
