Better say the same thing when Floyd loses 3-4 rounds to Cotto. People on here amaze me, Floyd dominates if he loses 3 or 4 rounds because "That's what Floyd do." Sergio only lost 3 or 4 rounds and the knockdown was a push but even if it was counted as a knockdown Macklin didn't deserve to win by two points. I think it was one of Sergio's greatest performances IMO. He went up against someone who wasn't a bum by any means, but for the first time I saw some good boxing IQ from Sergio. His timing on the jab was SUPERB and was tagging Macklin coming in with it constantly. Then he ended it with a great KO when he easily could have run out the clock and jabbed the final two rounds. Sergio got my respect tonight, FINALLY.
Him calling out Mayweather/Manny is still pathetic and DiBella saying Cotto is washed up and all that. He knows damn well if Floyd loses and Manny loses he would fight Cotto in a minute and he wouldn't be "washed up." I like Sergio for his fighting ability and nothing more, the same way I feel about Floyd.
I like Sergio Martinez and rate him highly but he has had competitive fights against opponents who were skilled but definitely not close to top shelf quality. Nothing against Macklin, Barker or Szinzurik those guys are what I would rate as B+ caliber but Im interested to see how Martinez handles the guys on the same level or at least closer to his level.
Have you ever been on this site after a Floyd fight? If Cotto wins 3-4 rounds, 60% of this site will say Cotto was robbed and Floyd shouldn't be in the top 10 p4p.
:lol1: :lol1:
It's not that bad.
But most of the time people are over critical to a degree of both Mayweather and Pacquaio.
The HBO crew was pissing me off with their comments last night. I know Sergio publicly dissed the network a month ago so now they try to take it out on him live. That kd against Martinez was a clear trip and Martinez is winning nearly every fight via KO. I mean look at Macklin's face at the end of the fight, it was destroyed.
HBO is questioning whether or not Martinez deserves to be the 3rd p4p...please get that thrash out of here.

106-100 Sergio Martinez
Only 3 rounds to Macklin, the judges are wacked, not sure what fight they were watching. I saw Sergio stagger Macklin several times before the 11th round and he broke Macklin down to pieces. Who else is ending every fight with a KO? Not Pac, not Floyd (sucker punches don't count)
It is questionable.
personally I think martinez is a great fighter, he is one of the rare ones that has that "sugar" to his style.
I hate when everything that is talked about is who beat who or who has the least losses on there record.
Im a former amateur boxer and student of the game, the way sergio fights is a thing or beauty.
Wise words.Agreed 100 %.The guy is classy inside and outside the ring
Exactly at least Martinez finishes his opponents with speed and power. Mayweather wouldnt even be able to finish a chinny amir CON
So because Floyd doesnt KO all his opponents means what again?
Im lost.

everybody expect martinez to sweep all rounds or end fights early ever since his knockout of pwill. In his recent fights, besides Pwill 2 and Dzinzurik, it has been atleast a little bit competitive.
What he has shown in all those fights is dominance in the championship rounds, he has been able to turn it up if it gets that far and fight rounds 10,11,12 like its the 1st round.
i believe Sergio chooses to finish fights in the late rounds in order to not look that good and get the big pay day fights he wants. PWillimas was KO cause he never stops coming. dzinziruk was KOed early because Sergio was badly cut. Everybody knows Sergio has what it needs to finish fights earlier.
Boxing fans today are too used to dominant performances from fighters. Some of the best fighters in history have struggled with fighters 90% of people here don't know or even heard of. That's one of the beauties of Boxing. I guarantee about half the board doesn't know who John Mugabi is. Instead of criticizing Martinez, I actually applaud his ability to adapt mid fight and finish it.
Haters just never get enough it is pathetic.Martinez came out flat I give you that, but he never really was in danger when he pushed the throttle the difference between him and a solid boxer in Macklin were all clear.
Sergio moved up one division ,mainly cause he got not challenge at his 54 division, after that he captured the title vs a proven champion in Pavlik ,his last 4 fights has all ended up the same way KO.Haters now say he should fight Pirog and he only got a W vs cab drivers,if he d beat Pirog they d come up with another eurobum excuse,as the saying goes haters gonna hate, they are to blind to see.
You can't say he came out flat, because he has a few rounds like that in every fight. It's the same problem Gamboa seems to have, where there just moments where Martinez loses focus and doesn't fight as well.

I'm not going to debate a Sergio fan with a Klitschko as their avatar.
Maybe you should come up with some good arguments. All you do is ride Chavez' nuts hardcore and the quote on your sig shows it. No way in hell that was a knockdown, glove touching canvas or not. Chavez' nuts are all over your face blinding you from seeing that Macklin's punch never touched Martinez except for the pushing part.
Like I said on another thread, Martinez is held at such high standards cause of his Williams knockout. But if you watch anything after that, he has "struggled" with (notice a put in quotations). Like a true champ he learns to adjust and finishes his opponents. He is still knocking these guys out isn't he?
