He fought Narvaez before ever making a comment about Rigondeaux.
Nobody really gave a damn a bout a Donaire-Rigo fight until Rigo beat the ATG future HOF'er Rico Ramos.
Yeah he did, but then he made those comments only 2 months after fighting Narvaez. I knew Rigo would kill Ramos, because I never thought Ramos was that good. But Ramos did KO Shimoda to win the WBA SBW title, which is better than anything Vazquez Jr ever has done so far.
I'm surprised to hear you, Jro, sort of imply that Nonito doesn't have to fight Rigo or shouldn't fight him before leaving the division. It just seems like Nonito is going to do what Mayweather did with 140, fight a couple okay fights, and then leave for 147. I mean, all Floyd did at 140 was fight Gatti (a pretty good win against title holder) and Corley, than went up to 147. He ended up fighting Ricky Hatton anyway, but at the time, it seemed like a waste for Floyd. If Donaire fights WV2, Mijares, and than Arce/Terrazas, it's a bit of a waste at 122 for him. 118 was a waste aside from Montiel, as was 115 aside from H. Marquez.
I'm agreeing with you on Mares and Moreno man, you don't always have to pull one thing from a comment you disagree with to stir things up man. I agree with you.
mares is unlike anyone nonito's faced. mares is the truth and i'm not saying he'd win but it wouldn't be a one sided fight for any man.
you could also say that nonito is unlike anyone mares' has faced....
I don't think Mares gives Moreno the trouble that Cermeño gave him IN THAT FIRST FIGHT. Not even close. Not because do I believe Cermeño is better than Mares. Because, he is not. Mares is the much better fighter, the more skilled fighter. But, stylistically Cermeño gave Moreno trouble, the roughness, dirtiness, the style, the style. Mares is more textbook, Moreno handles that with somewhat ease. Just little fits here and there. Nothing major.
Hopefully it happens, though it seems like Golden Boy is trying to get Mares a big fight at 122 first. I doubt that happens though. Mares and Moreno won't get anywhere near Donaire, if Rigondeaux (Top Rank) doesn't even get a shot at him.
Another fighter who has yet to mention Moreno.
While I think Mares-Moreno will happen at some point, it should just happen now. Even if Mares were to lose to Moreno, he doesn't take a big hit or anything. He still won a titles at BW and can move up to SBW, and win another title. And Moreno wants to move up as well at some point, maybe a rematch could happen if it's close ya know??? I don't see why GBP doesn't just make Mares-Moreno after Mares-Morel and Moreno-De La Mora.
I thought Moreno's fights with Sydorenko and Monshipour should have been comfortable UD wins for him, I think the fact those fights were in Germany and France had something to do with the SD wins. But his fights with Cermeno were pretty close, it's the most trouble I've seen Moreno have so far. At the same time, I thought Abner really beat Perez and should have had UD wins in both Agbeko fights. But, the most trouble I did see Mares have thus far is with Darchinyan.
Mares and Moreno would both be the toughest fights for each guy this far, but it's a defining sort of fight for both guy right now. And a rematch could happen down the road at 122 if it's close.
Both of Mares and Moreno's next fights just seem like stay busy sort of fights. I mean, even though Morel is #4 ranked by the RING, he's probably a bit past his best. And De La Mora isn't anything at all as well. I just wish they'd fight next.
The one thing I agree with Abner on is Donaire. I know Donaire beat Montiel, which was a great win, but he has no business talking about avoiding someone, given the stunt he's pulled the past couple months about Rigondeaux. Saying he's not well known enough or too boring, but then fighting Narvaez and now Mijares??? Donaire, in the position he is, should be fighting Arce, Nishioka, and Rigondeaux at 122, no one else.
Donaire is in no way shape or form in any position to tell Mares that he's scared to fight him or anyone else.....look no further than Guillermo Rigondeaux.
Donaire would beat him, but I doubt it happens.
Mares-Moreno should happen before he goes to 122. Mares beat Agbeko, who's a pretty good boxer with good speed. But, Moreno is a level above Agbeko pretty much. And Mares would be tougher for Moreno than Darchinyan was. Vic is just too damn wild when he's attacking and way to reckless. Abner seems a bit more relaxed and in control of himself, not great defense, but better D than Vic.
Mares-Moreno August/September 2012, than move up to 122 win or lose.
Darchinyan, Mthlane, Sydorenko, Hernan Marquez, Montiel and vazquez JR arent live opponents? GTFO troll.
Even Narvaez is still ranked number 1 in his division- So is Marquez. Not a troll but he is a hype job. So deal with it or you GTFO
They aren't putting nonito in with mares. Abner Mares is no joke.
I do believe nonito would win, but protected fighters don't get put in that spot.
As a fan I hope it gets done.......................:boxing:
