I get the feeling he gets **** on quite a lot around here now because of the Pacquiao fight especially and because Floyd TKOed him yet he was the last fighter to realistically win more than 1-2 rounds vs Floyd and pressured him the whole fight.
If Shane attacked non stop he would have been stopped, as would Marquez.
Richy is a very likeable guy but he was over rated. The Collazo fight he looked terrible and his biggest win was Tszyu. He was one of the top fighters at 140 but really didnt fight any other top fighter in that weight besides Tszyu
he was clearly "the man" at 140 for quite a long time, was able to snag a title at 147 and his only losses came against the 2 best fighter in this era...
i think he is being underrated presently because of those 2 losses...
BUT it was very different when he was still active...:)
Khans resume is already pretty much equal to Hattons and he is only 25.
WTF!
hatton didnt get knocked out by a random colombian, or allow himself to get beat by a good fighter like peterson.
Khan has arguably got more potential so lets see how he does.
i watched that fight like 10 times.. or more.. floyd was so skillful on that fight, by adjusting to hattons game and all that. quickness, lead rights and really difficult to hit.. hatton did okay in that fight because he is not hesitant to come forward or throw.. he has a bullying style which could've been perfect against floyd somehow, but he shouldve been stronger than that or a little smarter not commit all the flaws he did against floyd. floyd is a sniper. hatton should've better. he did well because of his determination and not hesitating to brawl. . floyds other opponents tried to box with him and wait and became hesitant to throw punches as the fight goes on. like oscar. mosley etc.. and i believe pac will also do the same thing. he would try to box and be hesitant to throw combinations because they'll get countered and definitely he will be outboxed. the game plan should be to pressure floyd and move as much as he does rotate against him, use lead left hooks and throw multiple combinations at different angles..
in reality i cant remember hatton winning a round in the floyd fight.all he was doing was rushing in and clinching................
common misconception. watch the fight again and you will see that it was floyd doing the holding. the HBO commentators pointed that out also.
look, hatton is under rated by some and over rated by others. either way, i see him as an all action face first brawler that came to win, regardless of who he was fighting. boxing fans have got to appreciate that he was willing to take some to give some.
either way, the boxing world misses him, or they should do anyway.
is he an all time great? no.
is he a hall of famer? probably not.
but that doesnt matter, he gave 100% and always come to win, even against mayweather. so you have to respect that.
Hatton did damage because he walked right through Tszyu best shots. Tsyzu could have fought dirty and did on quite a few occasions. Tszyu said the better man won on the night and didn't have excuses. His opinion outweighs anything you or anyone else says to discredit the win.
Just because he was a stand up guy and and didn't want to make excuses. There is something called class in boxing. Not too many show it in defeat but some do. hatton beat Tszyu and that's how history will show. I can only comment on things i have witnessed during my life time. I try to stay away from threads that relate to fights that I did not witnessed live. I know what I saw that night thus my opinion stands and I respect yours.
Some of you are failing to see my point which is a fact Hatton was able to do damage based on the FACT the fight was in the UK with a biased ref. Tszyu was winning going into last rd. by one point. I'm not trying to discredit Hatton yes he won Tszyu quit but due to the circumstances. Bottom line he was able to do things in the UK.
Thats bollocks. You sound bitter.:nonono:

You have to live in England to understand how seriously overrated Hatton was BEFORE he even fought Mayweather or Pacquiao, the guy is "Loveable" but overrated period!!!
Tszyu and his corner thought they were behind 3 or 4 points, Tszyu didn't make any excuses he knew he was beat.

I clearly remember this fight and the only reason he quit was because he felt he was losing(which he was not) and there was no sense to keep taking a beating not based on boxing but in roughness allowed by the biased ref. Tszyu was on the ladder part of his career hence the only reason hatton won. Yes he did quit one more rd. the fight would have been a draw. If that fight would have taken place anywhere but the UK no way Hatton wins.

Extremely underrated. He was a very good fighter and brought excitement to the sport and made it accessible to the wider public. At his very best he was fast and relentless and one can only wonder how much further his career could have gone had he been more disciplined outside the ring.
I think the sport misses him.
how does that make any sense, if Tszyu quit?

Mosley is over rated in boxing skills. To me he was always a slugger.
thats not true. mosley in his prime was a great boxer, at 135 in particluar. as he moved up in weight and got older he boxed less and became more of a slugger. but in his prime he was a very good technical fighter.
how does that make any sense, if Tszyu quit?
the ref let hatton get away with alot of roughouse tactics including his usual holding and hitting on the inside. tszyu was catching him coming in over and over but once he got inside the ref let hatton work when he should have broke them up. i guess he thinks had the ref stepped in more often, seperated them and kept it a boxing match tzsyus work would outweigh hattons.
Mosley and Marquez are in a different league to Ricky in terms of ring craft so in hind sight Hatton faired quite well against Mayweather. He was always gonna go out on his shield in that type of matchup. However you rate him, it was one hell of a ride following his career.
