You guys complain about fighters in other combat sports not getting paid enough but they fight three times a year and against competition relatively equal to their skill level.
What about boxers? They want high six figures, they fight once or twice a year. They want more money against high-profile matchups, then fights fall through. Then they end up fighting scrub instead. Shouldn't Mares be fighting Donaire?
I guess this is how boxing is though. This is what happens when fighters care most about themselves rather than the sport or competition.
Are you guys fine with that? Is this how boxing should be? Fighters renegotiating contracts, asking for big money when they're not stars, fighting twice a year, waiting 6 months or a year for bigger fights that aren't on their skill level, etc?
good post up there.
and when some guys do get to smell the pot of gold their noses are so smashed up that they can't even smell it.........Rockin':boxing:
The story of boxing isn't one of happy endings, so I have never got the need to get upset at people that pull off that improbable feat.
Some people are finicky though
I'm all for fighters getting paid a lot. What bugs me is just how you get guys who make 8 figures a fight, while their opponent gets 1/10 of that. I'm all for the bigger draw getting more of the cut, but the gap just seems to get ridiculous. But then again, if they're ok with it at the end of the day, then it is what it is
i don't know what sport this guy has been watching because most boxers fight more than twice a year only top fighters who have been pro for years and are more or less established fight twice a year and for alot of money and whenever those boxers are fighting most of the time they are fighting the top fighters of the division
The whole thing about the top end guys getting paid a lot, is that provides motivation for others to take up the sport. Without that goal, who on Earth would take up boxing, certainly no one with any sort of better option which would drag down the sport further.
Look at the numbers of serious injuries, boxing is very risky for guys to want to take that risk the rewards need to be equal or better than the risk.
Not to many even sniff that pot of gold either~
I should have originally quoted your whole reply, it was good.
Fighters are avoided from the get go.
I turned pro in the month of November and I had told Jackie that I wanted 1 fight per month. I had made an impression in the many Detroit gyms that I worked at, I couldn't get anything I assume because word had gotten around. I had a few offers that were excepted but the guy always pulled out. So December and January go by and I'm busting my a$$ in the gym and then one day Jackie calls me into her office. She says that there is an opening at the The Palace in 2 weeks and if I wanted it. She said that the guy had 1 fight. I eagerly excepted. Ended up being this guy from Africa, 6ft 3in tall, that was a crazy fight. So I again sit idle for the next month willing to except whatever came up. The only offer that I had was to fight Rocky Martinez in Chicago, I wanted that fight. Rocky had had about 7 or 8 fights at the time, I was fine with that. The only thing that stopped that was that they demanded that the fight be at 140 instead of 147 were I regularly fought, having fought the last fight at 154lbs. We went back and forth and they wouldn't budge, 140 they demanded. We sent different weight limits inbetween the 140-147 range yet still they wouldn't budge so no fight. It's like that all the way through..........Rockin':boxing:
Thats fair, I'm not going to act like I know the ins and outs of pro boxing business, so I'll trust your word for it seeing as you obviously know more than I do.
My original point was mainly regarding the world class boxers that are on HBO and such, and again not just boxing every sport. They make millions playing a sport and get to live the celebrity life then try and get sympathy because the owners/promoters/or organizations arent giving them a couple million more. I'm just not willing to give them the sympathy.
You wanna see 2 fighters put it all on the line?......Make each and every fight 80/20 split with the winner getting the lions share! Watch how them fighters come out of their corners like thoroughbread racehorses. LOL
When it comes to other sports like baseball, basketball, and football.....They should pay all players at the end of the season or per game depending on how well they performed. What's the incentive to play our heart out when you're being guaranteed $15mil for the season regardless of how good or crappy you play?
your rebuttal was fair and a good argument.
but would you work 2-1/2 hours a day for 6 weeks to earn $250 and then work another 12 weeks, after a bout fell through, for a $400 bout? 18 weeks and you've made $650, how would that suite you? ..........Rockin':boxing:
Well obviously I wouldnt... but thats kind of the point. There isn't a whole lot of money involved in boxing. Thats the kind of money one must expect in boxing unless they are on the world class level. At that level I wouldnt really expect people to box for the money, more of for the love of the sport or other reasons.
Lmfao at your comment Danny. There are a small handfull making millions while there are thousands and thousands of fighters fighting for $50-$100 a round.
In a workout of 2-1/2 hours I would put out more energy than most civilian workers would put out in a week. Your view is skewed. Boxers do less work..... shiiiiit!............Rockin':boxing:
I assumed we were talking about the top boxers in the world, because really they are the only ones avoiding fights and stuff.
As for the amateur, prospect, and journeyman boxers there just isnt that much money in boxing to be paid that much. You should know more than anyone else on here that to become a pro boxer you need to be willing to take risks. If you are a newly pro boxer and you are trying to dictate the terms of your contract, who you are going to fight, and how much your gonna get paid, your just not gonna make it far. It may not be fair, but life isn't fair in the business world.
I would take 2 1/2 hours of of boxing training over working 12 hour work days any day of the week though.
This is something i've been saying for a long time. UFC haters/critics constantly point to the amount of money the top UFC fighters make compared to what fighters such as Pac and Floyd make. What they fail to understand is the more u pay a boxer, the less has to fight and the more he wants to protect his marketability. Can someone explain how this is a good thing for us boxing fans?
Now I'm all for a fighter making as much as he can, but they should also think about the fans that line their pockets with millions and give something back one in a while instead of shoving fights down our throats that we dont ask for.
a fighter should care more about himself.he's taking the damn risk so he should get the reward.its a job a job that can cost you your life.so you should damn well make sure you are compensated.........why should the promoters and mangers who aint risking their lifes get all the money??thats insane
There are MANY more jobs where workers are at a higher risk of losing their lives and get paid much less then the top boxers. And in every instance owners, managers, and bosses are making more money then the ones risking their lives... this isn't exclusive to boxing.
The bottom line is these guys (and all athletes for that matter) are lucky as **** to be being paid millions to play a sport. They do so much less work then the average worker in America and get paid much more. Quit crying, fight your fights, cash your paycheck.
fighters deserve every penny they get and then some. how many other athletes risk spending the rest of their lives in a wheelchair, unable to speak or take care of themselves when their careers are over soley because of the career they had chosen? .............Rockin':boxing:
according to these posters they should come first.amazing how people can sit on a computer and say a fighter who risks their life to entertain them doesnt deserve to get paid
Boxing itself or just Mayweather/Pac? Aside from May, Pac, and Cotto-Marg II, name one boxing PPV that outsold the lowest UFC PPV last year. Generates more money? Do you think HBO got their dime back from Bradley/Alexander? HBO's budget was destroyed by that fight, thank goodness boxing has its two cash cows.
Put Gamboa on PPV and let's see if he deserves the high sex figures he wants.
sooo why are you on a boxing forum???
If you dont know what else there is to fight for i suggest stop living you life by the FLomo Bible
fight for what??fans who turn their back on you and call you shot or overated if you lose.........hell naw show me the money.none of ya'll will give a damn about me if i get hurt and cant fight anymore

In the UFC, the big-time guys make big-time money, the midcard guys make midcard money, and the low-level scrubs make low-scrub money. And they are all matched up against guys at the same competitive level. When a big name fighter like Jose Aldo fights midcard no-draw Chad Mendes, Mendes doesn't ask for a ****ing a raise, he fights Jose to prove he deserves big time purses.
this is boxing son.not the UFC.wrong forum boxing has been around alot longer and generates more money.go cry somewhere else

Money ruins everything. I wish boxers would get UFC type money, then they'd have something to fight for other then money
