I don't get it, most of you call yourselves hardcore boxing fans, how did you expect Haye to fight? Have you not watched his career?
I see so many people using this argument to criticise Haye, his career, plus using it to bash him in terms of not deserving another pay day, and robbing the public. But I knew how the fight would go, I knew the problems Wlad presented to Haye and vice versa, it was always going to be a chess match. You have one guy who is a single punch counterpuncher, and another guy who likes to fight at range and ties up in close. Both fighters have stamina issues and questionable chins.
I am certain that Haye thought he would knock Wlad out, but he couldn't do it on the night because Wlad fought a brilliant fight and used his superior technique to nullify Haye Yes he talked a lot to sell the fight, but why did you as "hardcore" boxing fans buy into the hype?
Why do you feel he deserves so much critiscm when 90% of his career was very entertaining and full of knockouts. I am not trying to patronise anyone or defend Haye or his career, because everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I would genuinely like answers. I think he is an extremely talented (but flawed) fighter, and he has a good career, and I also think a lot of people on here twist facts to hate on him.
Haye is underrated wlad is underated.
Wlad fought the perfect fight, he used his superior size to control the distance with his jab.
Only if haye was bigger would he have had a chance
I've always said that he didn't do as bad as people say he did.
Yes, I was disappointed in his performance and the fact that he never truly gave it a go. BUT, he did outland Wlad in terms of power punches, he made him miss all night long pretty much and hurt him a bit in the last round.
He lost fair and square, but he wasn't really dominated. It was sad that he didn't give it his all though.
Haye did not attack until the last round, even then it was too late. He boxed okay while losing but he did not take the risk to win, he did not 'leave it all in the ring'.
He then blamed an injury (his toe of all things) as if the fight wasn't enough to bore everyone to tears.
In his own words 'I talked the talk, but I didn't walk the walk'.
Like Roger Mayweather says "Most people don't know **** about boxing".
Hayes plan was to piss Wlad off pre fight and have him go for a KO and make mistakes. Wlad didn't fall for it and fought a careful fight.
Hayes plan also based on Wlads suspect chin, as it turned out Haye got him with a couple of good shots a d Wlad took them.
Hayes was never going to win decision and was never going to win throwing careless bombs.
Haye wasn't that far off winning he just couldn't quite land that one fight changing shot. Wlad was too patient, to smart, too big and his chin held up.
I don't see how Haye getting himself KOed early helps his chances of winning
I guess you know boxing and Haye told you that himself
I think people exaggerate how bad his performance was. He was in the fight until the later rounds and still got some good shots in during the 12th. His big problem was that he never stunned Wlad badly enough to jump on him.

Hi David Haye
Like Roger Mayweather says "Most people don't know **** about boxing".
Hayes plan was to piss Wlad off pre fight and have him go for a KO and make mistakes. Wlad didn't fall for it and fought a careful fight.
Hayes plan also based on Wlads suspect chin, as it turned out Haye got him with a couple of good shots a d Wlad took them.

how can you call this running ? Haye is standing right in front of Wlad for the most part, moving his head and using lateral movement
you want to know what running is ? here
Haye was fighting out of Wlad's punching distance which is way out of Haye's punching distant with his shorter reach. If Wlad would had pressed faster Haye would had ran faster. Don't see your point in him not running cause he was backing up the whole fight.
Instead of him defeating Wlad's style he adjusted to his style to evade and not get hit, but where was the offense? No traps, no tactics, no push, no pressure, etc to get Wlad out of his comfort zone
Hindsight is an easy thing, in previous fights you see Wlad fall in after shots and clinch but he didn't do that in this fight, he executed perfectly, simple as that.
Hindsight is an easy thing and you appear to be using plenty of it in here. But this fight really wasn't that hard to figure out, if you didn't buy into the hype. I wrote a pretty detailed prediction for how the fight would go down weeks before the fight and was about 80% right in how it turned out. The only thing I got wrong was the lack of a KO and the flopping. And I wasn't exactly an oracle in that.
You want to know why people are so critical of his performance just look at some of the posts in the build up. Haye's fans had a totally unrealistic expectation of their fighter's abilities and of Wlad's, which is IMO the main cause of the backlash after the fight. They thought Haye didn't try. He did, he was just outclassed. Blame ignorance, gullibility and an effective hypemachine for that.
Haye wasn't running, he was moving. I don't know where that idea comes from. Wlad is just as responsible as Haye for a dull fight, Wlad wasn't pressing much either.
Moving? He was running around and then throwing 1 punch at a time.
The only "moving" was when he was flopping around on the floor
if hadnt have talked and bigged himself up and wound up the bros he wouldnt have got a title shot without having to go through all the ranked heavyweight bums, maybe he should have had a few more fights at heavy and got more experienced and especially with the bigger taller/rangy heavies, then gone for the media hustle to bag the k bros fight.
That would have involved working his way up the hard way, and Haye was only ever about the quick cash grab. If that isn't obvious to you now then it never will be. Sorry.
but i think he mostly had the talent to not have to go the slower long way round to a k bros fight.
As we see he didn't. Even the best of em back when had to earn their right to the top. No one is so good that they can just expect to leapfrog their way into a title shot, and Haye falls way short.
Haye simply didnt do enough to out point wlad,he let wlad be busier,he let him throw and land more,i actually think haye landed better looking shots and combinations when he decided it was safe enough for him to do so.
Haye didn't let Wlad do anything to him, he got his will imposed on. This nonsense that Haye didn't do enough to win is about the only common ground both sides seem to agree on, and they're both wrong. He didn't do enough to win because he wasn't given the opportunity to do enough to win. That was down to Wlad and no one else.
Haye as a heavy needs to be busier, needs to jab more to keep busy,to keep guys thinking to set up his bigger punches in his combinations.
Thing is you're no longer describing Haye, you're describing a completely different boxer. Very few guys can fundamentally alter their style especially this late in the game, and Haye doesn't strike me as one of the few.
I somewhat agree on you take vs Vitali, but again you start to fall into the habit of ascribing totally false traits to Haye. If he ups his workrate, if he jabs more, if he keeps Vit on the backfoot etc. Haye will fight exactly the same way he always fights. If you think that's good enough to beat Vit then fine, but don't turn Haye into something he isn't. That's what lost countless Brits their betting money in the first place.
The bottom line is what Wlad was doing was winning him the rounds and what Haye was doing was losing him the fight so it was totally up to him to try something different to change the outcome but he was satisfied with just not getting badly hurt and didn't dare take the chance of doing something special on that night.
Exactly. Its not the fact that he didnt win, but he didnt even try.
How can anybody respect that?
Because Haye wasn't playing to win, it was pretty much how I expected him to fight because he really isn't a throw caution to the wind sort but that was his only chance.
I wasn't to critical of him but I gave him no chance to win because how he fights with his size just makes Wlad a bad match for him, Haye got a lot of people to buy in though so I can see why people would be critical of him.

People don't excuses.
"I would've kicked your ass if my toe was on point",Haye
"I didn't look good against an average joe because i had a "broken hand" "
"I didn't look good because of cramps"
Well clearly he was trying to set a trap and walk Wlad onto a counter and get him going and take him out. But Wlad was too good for it, his technique was too good, he fought tall, and when he did get hit, the power was taken off the shot because Haye was off balance. Hindsight is an easy thing, in previous fights you see Wlad fall in after shots and clinch but he didn't do that in this fight, he executed perfectly, simple as that. Haye did try, he did what he knows best, and he is fast enough to catch Wlad from the outside, but Wlad just did not make many mistakes, didn't give him the window to land those shots, and I believe that was Wladimir's best performance.
Agree to disagree
Set the exact same trap for 12 rounds? :lol1:
Maybe if it was a 15 round fight, he would have changed something up
So the question your asking is why some felt robbed by Hayes performance against Wlad when we all knew what to expect?
Unless you have mystic abilities, part of the excitement with boxing is that it can change in an instant. We all knew how it PROBABLY would turn out, but that doesn't detract from the hype Haye built, leading to an expectation that he might fight more aggresively like in his cruiser days.
Looks like you are simply defending Haye on what was essentially a flawed gameplan against a superior fighter. Wlad schooled him and it was a yawn fest.
That has always been his style, Wlad's performance wasn't much better either, he too fought very cautious. My blame was never solely directed at Haye, but no complaints here as neither of the two are versatile. As soon as Haye would open up, Wlad would back pedal as oppose to countering and Haye would do the same exact thing. Difference is Wlad's size and ability to tire out his opponents with his weight by laying on them in the clinches...allowed him to take the initiative better. Haye is no different than Pascal, both fight exactly the same way if one looks closely, the same exact style man. And for the record I gave Haye 4 rounds...
almost exactly my thoughts
Ohhhh
Well i dont care if it was or wasnt a chess match. Point is there is NO way Haye is winning a "chess match", so why is he even in one?
You give EVERYTHING you have to win. But most of Haye's energy was wasted flopping around on the floor and running around instead of winning a fight.
