Which would you rather get if you only could only choose 1 channel - HBO or Showtime? (For boxing events frequency, quality, interest in fights, announcers, etc)? Thanks.
So what's on hbo this weekend...............oops that's right!! Meanwhile we have showbox on friday & Cloud &b the Punisher double header on saturday.
PS: Delorme is a beast!!:boxing: Warrrrr showtime.
HBO. But I've always enjoyed ShowTime as well for it's competitve atmosphere, and it's messed up to see ppl dissing the SHowTime announce team :lol1: I for one enjoy their complete unbias analyses. Specially when Nick Charles was there RIP he was one of the best.
Neither. Both are niche channels who hoard boxers from other networks using massive pay days. Both get niche ratings when boxing should be getting ratings in the 20 million plus range. HBO is going bankrupt and they have every intent on bringing boxing down with them. They constantly demote the sports status in the world so other networks aren't tempted to buy into it.
Showtime is much more professional and less bias, compared to HBO in which the 3 Old Men turn into Cheerleaders instead of Professional Announcers and they try to influence the fans watching...especially the Casual Boxing fans
Lampley has sunk so low that he is now call things in the ring that is not even happening hahaha Fans Are Chanting "Money Money Money" he tells you "Now A Chant For Ortiz" even going as low as lying about Punches that are not even landing
HBO need to make a chance, put some YOUTH in the Booth, Switch Kellerman and Merchant and let Roy replace Steward, I respect the opinion of a guy that actually fought before compared to some Drunk Bitter Old Man or some Tin Man Looking Trainer with the Worse Hair Piece I ever seen lol
I have much more respect for Al Bernstein and Tarver because they CALL IT LIKE THEY SEE IT!
But HBO OVERALL Production and Presentation just looks better and more organized
Thank you! Great post. I completely agree, Hbo may have more fights and better fights, but their announce team ruins it for me. I have to in some instances watch the fights on mute. Roy Jones is a great commentator, Max can be good, but Lampley needs glasses, he along with MErchant and Stew are the most biased commentators I have ever heard. They are a disgrace to broadcast journalism.. Showtime commentators do a great job actually talking about the fight, AL Berstein does a great job, along with Tarver providing the insight of a fighter. They have this young guy can't think of his name right now that fills the 'Lampley' role, but he actually calls it like he sees it.
most of my favorite fighters along with fights that i'm really interested in are usually on hbo. plus, kellerman, bob papa, and roy jones, can't go wrong with those guys. i like both, but hbo for sure.
Showtime been putting more evenly match fights in the last couple of years. HBO coming with the heat this year though. Of course HBO Has always had the bigger names and more money to work with.
Showtime. They have more cards. I've seen live shows on Thursday night. Plus they also use ShoExtreme to showcase other fighters. This weekend they have back to back show. And I rather listen to Bernstein than Merchant. Sometimes I dont know what fight Merchant and Lederman are watching.
On separate note, Dexter and Shameless are not boxing related but those are my two favorite show and are Showtime production
to be techincal, they have 6 fights on this weekend, 3 shows.
that's basically about 4 hbo cards.
HBO quality is so much better than Showtime. For example, The HD files from HBO from Cotto vs Margarito looks 10x better than the HD Cotto vs Mayorga.
Plus I like Max Kellerman, He is always asking the right questions.

I do not hat hbo. Where'd you get that idea from?? They are simply not better than showtime when it comes to boxing.
Out of all the fights HBO shows you pick Canelo vs Cintron to compare to Ward vs Froch? Come on man...
Wow hating on Canelo much? Yeah we know you hate him, that's no reason to hate HBO though.

That's what I wonder. Yeah hbo graphics are better. But that has nothing to do with the matchups inside that squares circle. I look every friday to see if showbox has the new generation on. Then I tune in on saturday for some championship fights. It's not even remotely close.
The better fights,(not makeup or merchants corney glasses) are on showtime. I mean Canelo-Cintron or Ward-Froch?
Seems like half the posters here think like: "well I'll watch Canelo-Cintron cause the graphics are better". WTF??:nonono:

it's part of the entertainment for me. i prefer color commentators over somebody who's just telling me what i already know cause shit i can just watch the fight on mute for that.
To each his own I guess. The perfect example of hbo hypocricy Merchant:
"If you want an example of someone running & winning a fight, this is it". Cotto-Margarito 2.
"You can't win a fight by running away". Pacman-Marquez 3
And Marquez wasn't even running. He was boxing circles around Pacman. Hell his back only touched the ropes like 3 times that night.
I guess you rather be lied to than told the truth, but not me. Showtime keeps it boxing, hbo keeps it something else.

showtime has better color commentators.
larry merchant? c'mon.
I get the feeling you don't watch much showtime.
tarver and farhood together> jones/merchant.
and I like roy a lot as a commentator
I simply cannot believe how many people actually can pick hbo over showtime for boxing.
I mean if you preffer drama & bias over action & purity, I guess you will choose hbo.
Honestly it almost seems like the average Pacman & Floyd fan would love hbo more. Because they preffer the pampered diva like mentality that hbo provides. ps: & I'm sorry Reed but Traver drapes Roy in comentating.

best post I"ve seen in awhile.
i agree 100000000% there's so much more boxing on Showtime and shobox is top notch. lol at people and their "production is so much better on hbo" WHO THE FUK CARES?!??! are you watching for the fights or because you want to do hair or makeup?

well put, man. HBO production can't be topped... SHO looks generic, their onscreen graphics look like they were taken straight from WWF attitude era. :lol1: anyway, i actually don't mind the HBO PPV crew. if i know they're wrong it doesn't affect me nor does it affect what is happening inside the ring, listening to their drivel is part of the circus act. jim lampley is freaking hilarious. when they're on BAD though they're usually pretty spot on.

ding ding ding........
besides, you don't need hbo to order PPV fights so floyd and manny fights should have nothing to do with it. i wonder if anyone actually looked at the schedules. hbo does not have better fighters than showtime just b/c floyd and manny are always ppv.
Showtime absolutely bosses on hbo. My guess is those that voted for hbo don't have them both. I do & I'm telling you, if you want quality matchups it showtime all day.
They even have upncomers on friday. Then championships on saturday.
If you want pampered superstars & bias comentary by all means get hbo you get plenty missmatches & fights where the bias have you genuinely wondering if you're watching the same damn fight.

not to mention that Showtime just has so much more boxing with their shobox series.
