I think his last couple fights he's trying too hard to be an entertainer, rather than just focusing on that task at hand. That's the impression I got anyway, especially against Vazquez. Seemed like he was just trying way too hard. Probably could have made things a bit easier if he just stuck to the basics.
I think he's fallen in love with his "power." And plus, Vasquez had him pretty amped up. But still, that performance was very...ehh. He's a poor man's Roy Jones who would be better suited fighting like Oscar De La Hoya. It may be too late in the game. A shame really because he's blessed with so many gifts and his ring generalship is off the charts.
im starting to think he cant. and i dont even think superstardom is in reach for him. its a tough sell in the lower divisions, and there arent many bonafide stars around his weight anyways. arce, mares are mexican hits, nishioka, uchiyama, kameda from japan mebbe juanma and gamboa but nothing thats gonna hit on the level that makes the whole world notice him. and most of these fights are very dangerous for him. im not sure he'll be able to move up and win them. he has the height but definitely not the body mass.
Yeah you're right. And again, he's 29. I know he's fresh but he's going to start slowing down sooner than people think. I don't know how much magic Victor Conte work - maybe he should go back to some of his old potions.
I don't blame him. He's 29 and running a race against the time. In order to become a superstar he may have to move up another division or two. And I'm not sure he can do that (successfully).

i think donaire is more concerned about becoming a superstar. i dont think hes ducking anyone but to me, hes more concerned about how much a fight is gonna make, so hes seeking out the fights that make him the most money, not the fights that are the most challenging. sometimes these two things are the same, but in donaires case, rarely has that happened.

Yeah definitely - it actually should be a good fight, action-wise. I'm just a cynical fan who thinks he knows the outcome, that's all. And Donaire has the potential to be the next one but there's something...something I can't place my finger on that gives me pause.

while I see your point I do think sometimes fights like this should happen if we are to build fighters into bigger stars

Arce is a gimme for Donaire. I know its next but...pass.

um Arce was losing the fight and getting out boxed in large stretches and was dropped himself
Nonito was never behind in the fight, hurt Vazquez twice, and was in control save for a jab he couldn't find
I do agree that I won't hate on an Arce fight because IMO it's the biggest fight out there for Nonito at 122

two different styles. arce loves getting on the inside because of his body punches. that's his forte. donaire is a boxer who depends on getting his ko because of his power.:boxing:

You should never bring in triangle theories because they never work.
If you watch the way WV2 fought Donaire, it was completely different than the way he fought Arce.
He stood and brawled with Arce, big mistake. He was much more careful with Donaire and that was the difference.
He didn't respect Arce's power and he shouldn't have seeing Arce is a naturally smaller guy. Donaire even though smaller, is much more explosive.
Different fighters, different fight.
I don't think Donaire is a good match up for Arce because he loves to come forward and that exposes him to the big shots from Donaire.
Shadyfizzle is gonna feel like a fool when donaire-arce goes down.

If you wanna talk styles then lets have at it.
Why do almost everyone think donaire will destroy arce??? Because of his willongness to exchange with loopy punches and doesnt have the speed to catch donaire right??
But arce has been in the game a long time. He has a solid chin, he can cut off the ring and force donaire to fight off his back foot.
Which would make for a much more competitive fight than the angles rigondeaux would give donaire and supposedly his weakness but from my observation donaire actually doesnt have a problem with at all.
while i'm all for the safety of a fighter the arce stoppage came after vasquez father tossed a water bottle at the ref (cortez i believe.)
he looked arm weary and like the body shots were starting to pile up more than anything
it was a stoppage to protect him from further damage, not one that came because he was unable to continue.
he never got dropped, (as you stated,) and he was winning a lot more rounds than he did against donaire.
he started strong and was landing the cleaner punches throughout much of the fight. donaire dominated most stages of the fight and hurt him worse than arce ever hurt him.
power to arce for getting the job done. they say every great fighter has one last great fight
the shiitstorm over donaire is mostly RIGO BASED
think about it
who was getting this hard on donaire until rigo bashed on ramos?
you think ramos would do anything other than get roughed up horrible by donaire?
he would have looked a hell of a lot more spectacular than rigo if given a chance to fight ramos
rigo looked boring as hell until he started to land the left hand down the center and back ramos up.
and then ramos simply quit
fighting a better fighter (which vasquez jr certainly is. vasquez wouldbeat the brakes off of ramos,) is going to leave you looking less spectacular

arce-vasquez was a hard fought battle that could have ended by ko or stoppage for EITHER fighter. arce got the better of him in the end. vazquez showed a good defense and a good jab against donaire but he was never in the fight really. he got wobbled, dropped and when he opened up to throw occasional one two's, he got right back into his shell. donaire put on a dominant performance overall and beat him more convincingly in my opinion, despite arce's TKO victory.
