He can't keep on calling Manny and Floyd this or that.....they are STILL Welterweights and he's STILL a Middleweight. Yes, Sergio would enhance both of their legacies, but they should feel no obligation to fight him. He's still 2 division above them.
And the reason Sergio has zero ground to stand on with this is the fact that he's calling out 147 lb fighters, and avoiding anyone at 168 lbs, only one division above him. If he's not ready to fight Ward or Bute at a CW, he shouldn't be talking crap about Welterweights not fighting him. He has legit crap to talk about Cotto and Chavez Jr, but not Floyd or Manny.
If he's not going to fight any of the good 168 lb fighters, than he should just shut up and clean out Middleweight. Fight Macklin, Lee-Sturm winner, Pirog, Geale, Quillin, and even Lara said he could fight at 160.
But, I'd bet a million bucks that Sergio would never fight Erislandy Lara.
I like Sergio, he's a great fighter, but he's got zero ground to stand on with the s**t he talks.
Ray Leonard was a natural WW who started at WW. Floyd started at SFW. Pac started at a much lower weight. What exactly is your point?
Lets deal with the present and not what weights they started at. The fight wouldn't even take place at middleweight and "lil Floyd" would fight at the 154 limit which he has done before. So why does this fight not happen?
I am surprised that so many people give Sergio a pass on calling out a guy that started at like 105 lbs and another guy that started at 130 lbs,
Why does it matter at what weight they started at? I used to weight 105 pounds too, but guess what? I grew up naturally and now I'm 140 pounds. Amazing isn't it?
and straight up refusing to fight Pirog. Whether or not that fight was offered in Europe, Sergio still declined that fight. Also, Lou and Sergio claim that Pirog has done nothing outside of beating Jacobs.....what the hell did Darren Barker do??????? Yes, Barker pretty much turned out to be better than anyone thought he was, but if Pirog hasn't earned a Sergio fight, than Barker sure as hell didn't.
It's completely irrelevant. See my thread on Pirog. HBO blacklist Pirog at the time and Martinez wouldn't have been able to fight him even if he wanted to. And fighting Pirog in Russia with no American TV is ridiculous. He had to fight Barker because all the other top 160 pounds didn't want the fight. Sturm, Chavez, Geale, Quillin, and Lee refused it. HBO would not have Zibik on again and Golovkin wasn't allowed to fight in the US. Who the hell else could he have fought? Anyway, he's about to fight a top 3 middleweight. There's no reason to fight Pirog over Macklin.
Thank you. But I'm asking the TS, who is a Floyd fan. He's obviously against this Martinez fight. So who does he want for Floyd's next fight?
:usa:
No way in the world am I against Mayweather-Martinez or Pacquiao-Martinez. I just said they shouldn't really feel any obligation to fight him, becuase he still a Middleweight and they are still Welterweights. If that's the case, than Sergio better feel obligated to fight Andre Ward, Lucian Bute, Andre Dirrell, Anthony Dirrell, or even 175 lb guys like Dawson and Hopkins.
I am surprised that so many people give Sergio a pass on calling out a guy that started at like 105 lbs and another guy that started at 130 lbs, and defend him not pushing for fights with Ward or Bute, and straight up refusing to fight Pirog.
Like I said initially, Sergio has every legit reason to complain about Chavez avoiding him, as well as Cotto, but not Floyd or Manny, 2 divisions below him. If that's the case, than like I said, Sergio better fight Ward, Bute, Dirrell Bro's, etc. I have only heard Sergio say something to the effect of "Oh yeah, Martinez-Ward would be a great fight", but than his promoter comes out and says Sergio isn't fighting Super Middleweights ever. Sergio can't have it both ways, yet he seems to want it like that. He should just clean out 160 completely and cement his legacy as a dominant Middleweight. He can fight the Lee-Sturm winner, Quillin, Lara, Pirog, Geale, all within the next couple years, if he doesn't get a Floyd or Manny fight.
Floyd and Manny shouldn't feel obligated to fight him, 2 weight classes bigger, but it would enhance their legacies greatly.
So who do you want to see Mayweather fight next
if Pac fight doesn't happen?
:usa:
Well I would have liked to have seen Mayweather-Martinez, but Sergio said he's still fighting Macklin no matter what, so that won't happen until at least November or December this year. So, the only other options besides Manny are Canelo and Cotto at 154. Cotto at 154 would be a B+ for Floyd, while Canelo would be a C+/B- at the highest. I would like to see Floyd fight Canelo maybe in 2013, if Canelo were to beat Cotto or Kirkland or something.
If Alvarez-Cotto was signed, I bet we'd get a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight.
He did? When?
He's been saying the same thing since around mid last year over and over again in various interviews. He'll go up to 164. Most recently he said he'd like Ward here. Anyway, the whole thing is ridiculous because people have been saying Martinez has been ducking Ward for almost a year despite the Super Six barely finishing last month.
what'd he say to Bute's catchweight challenge?
I'd hardly call it a challenge. They asked him if he's willing to fight Martinez at a catchweigh and he said maybe 166. That's barely making an effort.
Martinez is too small to fight at 168.
If he fights any of the top guys at 168, it has to be in a catch-weight fight because he would be giving up a lot to them if they fought at 168.
He will fight Alvarez
Thank you. But I'm asking the TS, who is a Floyd fan. He's obviously against this Martinez fight. So who does he want for Floyd's next fight?
:usa:
Your reasoning is nonsensical
Sergio Martinez has every ground to stand on with challenging both Mayweather and Pacquiao....any comments otherwise are quite silly. Sergio Martinez is a natural super welterweight and both Mayweather and Pacquiao have competed at the superwelterweight class in recent years. Pacquiao, Mayweather, Arum, Ellerbe, Haymon, and Roach will never fight Martinez because they want every single advantage in a fight....THIS IS FURTHER DISPLAYED IN THE FACT THAT THEY BOTH REFUSE TO FIGHT EACH OTHER.
This is not to say that both Pacquiao and MAyweather could not beat Martinez. In fact, Mayweather would have a very good chance in beating Martinez. Yet, they will never fight him because they and the people that surround him are paranoid and they have too much to lose with a loss.
ITS SAD THAT CERTAIN SPECTATORS/FANS CONTINUE TO DEFEND MAYWEATHER AND PACQUIAO...THEY HAVE ENOUGH DEFENSE ALREADY WITH THEIR TEAMS AND HANGER-ONS AROUND THEM.
I can't find a video right now, but it was about 1 year ago when I saw Pirog with his promoter calling out Martinez to fight in Moscow and they said they offered Martinez 3 millions for that fight. But he rejected.
Hopkins did the same thing. He use to call out Delahoya and Trinidad when they were welterweights and wiling to fight at 150 to make the fight. If anything Martinez is following the road of Hopkins to get a superfight.
Sergio busts Lara up, he's gonna smack Macklin around, then he's going to drop back to 154 and have Pac and Mayweather ready to exit stage left and hightail it from the boxing world forever.
Ray Leonard was a Welterweight and Hagler was a middleweight...
Ray Leonard was a natural WW who started at WW. Floyd started at SFW. Pac started at a much lower weight. What exactly is your point?
He just wants a pay day and a big fight. Not much to ask for when you've clearly established yourself as the top middleweight and fought the opposition he has. I'd like to see him fight the like of pirog, golovkin and some of the other good prospects about but lets face it there isn't much in the way of a pay day outside of Sturm in the division. A lot of these middleweights need to show themselves to be above the pack.
