and to the people who say Cotto needs to avenge a loss against Pacquiao, did Hearns need to avenge his KO loss to Hagler or Leonard when he wasn't shot-to-sh*t to make the hall? There can be a difference between an ATG and a hall of famer and Cotto is never going to be ATG status.
I don't think he's HOF yet, but I think a solid win over Canelo or Kirkland or both puts him there. In my eyes he hasn't had a great win since beating Mosley in '07, he's going to need to do something serious at 154.
Nailed on HOF already.
3 weight world champ, a great entertainer in the ring, gave us some great fights, Pacquiao is the only person he has fought and has not beat, no shame in that.
Great heart, mental toughest to come from those losses, fought many big names.
I would like to see how Margo does against any of the top 154's or even Mayorga that way we can better judge where Cotto stands at this point...And we all know that Mayorga can crack anyone's chin in that division...yes even at this age. Hell throw Kirkland in there and he prob get KTFO.
Cotto is a good fighter and was better at 140 and 147. He needs to fight real contendesr at 154, like Kirkland, Rodriguez or Angulo, Then unify with Canelo.. finally he should either evenge his loss with Pacquiao or move up to 160 and beat Chavez jr. because there is no way in hell he can beat Martinez!! That said Cotto would be HOF in my eyes, Right now he is just a fake as 154 champion who had not accoplished anythingto at that weight to have fought for tha championship.. People criticize Chavez jr and Canelo for aquiring their Belts 8in that fashion but Cotto did the exact same thing at 154..
Foreman was Legit before being beat. Even Manny didn't wana fight the guy claiming he was 'to tall' but then went and fought Margarita right after.

Where's your IQ at genious?
Christ your one Moranic Nationalistic Mexican.
Margarito would break canelo's virginity.Even at this point.Today.
Cotto beating Margarito alone @ 154 shits all over Canelo's quality of
opponnents + resume all at once.Oh wait excuse me @ 153 before you throw another one of your excuses.
Oh and isnt Kirkland Canelo's Mandatotory? Oh wait the the WBC has him rated at #15,hmm wonder why.
-Beat Pac and Floyd
-Become Undisputed Champion at 154
-Win a belt at 160
If he does all 3, he's most definitely a 1st ballot HOF'er. If he does a combination of 2, he still gets in.
I seriously think after a solid career over 3 weight classes a win over either 1 of the 2 top guys (Pac and May) is more than enough to send him Hall Bound

His resume is quite worthy in my opinion. His wins at 140 over Carlos Maussa, Victoriano Sosa, Lovemore N'dou, Kelson Pinto, Randall Bailey, DeMarcus Corley, Ricardo Torres, Gianluca Branco, and Paulie Malignaggi are often overlooked but they are very solid wins. At 147, his wins over Quintana, Urkal, Judah, Mosley, and Clottey are extremely solid as well. At 154, he beat Yuri Foreman who, if you don't remember, was a 2-1 favorite to beat Cotto and most boxing fans and boxing "experts" were picking Foreman to beat Cotto easily. Hell, Yuri Foreman was a legitimate champion too since he beat Daniel Santos. Add his wins over Margarito, Mayorga, and Gomez (lol) and that seems like a pretty strong resume to me.
Damn those are some pretty impressive names at 140. LMAO Malignaggi being the best..LOL at 147 he beat a 36 year old Mosely and IMO Clottey did enought to gethe win in their fight.. Then you are really making me laugh!!!Foreman a legit champion, come one, stop trying to hype up that win, The real question is why Cotto was even fighting Foreman for that championship when there were more deserving contenders at tha time??OH and Gomez and Mayorga, really?? You are fukken hilarious!!
are you talking about Floyd?
Come on man, you know I meant Cotto, Unless you think Mosely was not old when he fought Cotto?? Mosely was 36 when he fought Cotto by the way!!!
I have no doubt he will get in but is he worthy?? Especially with what he has done at 154 so far???Is what he did at 140 and 147 enought to be HOF material?? His biggest win IMO was against an older Mosely...

To me he probably deserves to get in, he has taken on the best available fighters and won titles in 3 divisions
If i was being a bit less generous then he has options to get him in, some more likely than others.....
1. A title in a 4th weight class (a first for a PR fighter) vs Chavez ....
2. A win over the MW Champion of the world Sergio Martinez
3. A rematch win over Pacquaio, the #2 (imo) fighter on the planet
4. A win over Boxing's top man Floyd Mayweather Jnr
5. A Unification win over Undefeated star Saul Alvarez
6. A solid run at LMW vs some good contenders like Kirkland, Lara ect...
Either one of these six options gets him in for sure as far as im concerned, like i say though some would be far more unlikely than others.
Id like to see him take on Alvarez and Pacquaio in his next fights but i can see the Chavez Jnr fight being a real option and not one im crazy on... Jnr who isnt great but.... well actually he is pretty poor, just not as bad as advertised, wouldnt bring much respect from the critics if Cotto should win and with his size - the guy is a Big MW, against Miguel who is a stump at the weight and who's power may not be quite the same up in weight IS a threat....

Cotto will get in. I've heard from boxing writers who have said the same.
