Word is unbeaten former world champion Yuriorkis Gamboa (21-0, 16 KOs) will return on March 3 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles against former Olympian Rocky Juarez (28-9-1, 20 KOs) as a prelude to an expected battle against former WBA 135lb champion Brandon Rios. Gamboa and Juarez will fight at a catchweight of 133 pounds.

That means he have to wait for a good opponent to show up? They are running scared and he needs to support his family he's being avoided not the other way around and enough with the Cubans don't have support, because I went to the Arena in Miami to watch Casamayor vs seda and the place was packed, beside what kind of fans the Russians, Africans and others nationalities have? They fighting every f*king month.
This fight is gonna be fucking snoozer, a one-sided Gamboa decision, and a lot of disappointed fans all rolled up into one. Gamboa's stock is gonna take a hit and his rep as a non exciting fighter will increase. We know the boringness of the fight will be more of Rocky's fault, but I'm just saying. Piss poor way to build up a more sellable fight with a top opponent.
be nice if two of my favorites square off at 135, lundy and gamboa. either of them boxes the ears off of rios, the second rios gets in there with someone that fights smart and doesnt just go at him its over. he will look stupid against gamboa or lundy, just plain stupid. flat footed come forward one dimensional brawler, oxnard boxing specialty.
you mean like Acosta and APete tried to?

Gamboa is testing the waters at 135 first, so Juarez is a good fight.
no it's not Rocky is admittedly a 126lb fighter fighting at higher weight for paychecks
Talked to someone close to this and it is nothing more than a bad rumor Juarez is not being viewed as an opponent for Gamboa

No one wants to fight him at 126, wtf are he going to do? This is his job and he needs to work, is not like he is avoiding the good fighters is the other way around, just because johns and Gonzalez has turn down fights with him, the Lopez fight went down the drain and he already beat up on Salido, now he have to wait? He is moving 2 weight classes and Juarez is the gate keeper is he can't beat him convincingly he better move back down...
my goodness there are a ton of fighters more sellable than Rocky
Argenis Mendez
Hank Lundy
JC Salgado
John Molina Jr
Katsidis
Yep. What the hell are they thinking?
Gamboa vs Johnny Gonzalez could be awesome.
Rocky Martinez made sense for 130.
I would prefer to see either one of those fights. Gamboa needs to pick it up; his prime years could soon be gone.

:lol1:
I think you just summed it up for all us Gamboa fans, Natas.
i could care less if the fight took place but if it goes on hbo thats crap. wasting money on mismatches is what hbo fired greenburg for
I don't mind it so much as an undercard fight mainly to get people excited for Rios vs Gamboa
I don't mind it as long as its purely a warm up fight and Rios vs Gamboa happens before June.
