i dont see ward as being a star. his style is horrible to watch and, boring personality, and he cant knock anyone out he a "decision king" if you ask me, i just dont buy the network trying to sell him as the next great american star. how about u?
Then don't watch him fight! DUH! Pretty lame when people continue to watch him fight then complain. I don't like Liver but I don't eat it and then every time and complain. DUH!
your missing the point dumb ****! this thread is titled Andre ward isnt star Material, if the casual fans dont know who you are and have no interest in you then your hardly a star are you?
hardly makes casual fans want to tune in does itThen don't watch him fight! DUH! Pretty lame when people continue to watch him fight then complain. I don't like Liver but I don't eat it and then every time and complain. DUH!
Andre Ward is NOT a star. A star is a HOUSEHOLD name. Somebody that people who don't follow the sport know and recognize.
There are two "stars" in boxing:
Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, that's it. The sooner some of you realize that the better.
Mayweather became a star because of his undeniable talent inside the ring and his big mouth outside of it.
Pacquaio became a star because his his exciting fights which were largely based on his KO power.
He'll continue to dominate, I can't see anyone beating him at 168 nor 175, besides possibly Dirrell. While I find him entertaining, I don't know if he'll ever appeal to the casual fans.
he'll never be a big ppv star like a mayweather or de la hoya (other olympic medalists btw) is what im getting at.
Once you up your comp knock outs become rare.
Everybody talking this power and one punch knockout sh1t but where are all these ko kings knocking out solid comp?
Honestly... top P4P yes, future star I'm not so optimistic about.
Just because you win fights doesn't mean you'll be a star. I mean, they'll try and make him into one, but IMO he doesn't have a fan friendly style.
P4P yes
PVP no

probably about the most entertaining video you'll ever see with andre ward. which isn't really saying anything for him!

i don't consider myself a casual fan at all and highly appreciate the quality of such fighters as wladimir klitschko (went to see him beat haye in germany) and rigondeaux, these are fighters that a lot of people call boring but rank towards the top of my "must watch" list.
andre ward on the other hand just puts me to sleep. last night, even in an excellent tactical/technical performance i found it hard to keep watching.
it was as clinical and brilliant a performance as one could hope for really but just lacked something.
outside of the ring he's super boring and even looks boring in photos.
i don't care for the showbusiness side of boxing too much but he is the antithesis of it.
so yeah, imagine someone who is a casual fan, there's not going to be much appeal there at all.
Winning makes nearly anyone a star. Ward will do fine as long as he keeps winning.
Not necessarily - Chad Dawson was winning fight after fight (before he met up with Pascal) but never achieved any real star power.
On the elite level of boxing ko's are not that common. But someone who buys hbo putting mega stars against chumps won't know that. Froch is an A level fighter, no ones gonna ko him.
On the other hand Cinamon is supposed to stop guys like Cintron & Gomez & Hatton. Just saying.
Put Pacman against shot has been's ko's are rare. You find a fighter that repeatedly stops world class boxers then come back & post, until then learn the sport.
Thats a really really good point. There is a reason fighters get to the world champion level in boxing and its because they dont loose. The only recent one that really really sticks in my head with tip top level champs is Donaire vs Montiel and Martinez vs Williams. All 4 fighters are seriosuly world class but 2 of them were brutally KTFO
Andre Ward as a person is likeable guy. He's confident, he's well spoken, he's got good values as well as being humble...
Andre Ward as a boxer does not interest and excite me. He's got all tools and skills to be a real superstar of the sport except the killer instinct. Last night his punches hit the mark but they lacked any heat, crispness or power and he never staggered or hurt Froch. Couple that with all the wrestling/clinching and you got a fight that was boring...

I agree far too much holding in the ring and a boring as **** bible basher out of it, he will never be a big star and will never sell tickets outside his hometown, most Americans actually wanted Froch to win last night cause it would have been better for boxing than having a boring cunt like ward at the top of the sport, hardly makes casual fans want to tune in does it
If he keeps winning it won't matter if his style is pleasing, Americans will start to follow him. Well spoken, undefeated, gold medalist. Yeah, he will catch on quite easily.
He will definitely get bigger BUT not even close to Mayweather's stature. His style is just not appealing to the fans. Mayweather is actually entertaining. My friends who are big time MMA fans LOVE brawling obviously BUT they enjoy Mayweather. Ward on the other hand, wrestles, clinches, dirty, etc. Plus, he doesn't have that superb speed that Mayweather has.
If boxing has to depend on Ward, R.I.P boxing!
