Look I think Pirog deserved a shot at Martinez before Barker, but so did a number of a MWs.
IMHO, Pirog has not shown he is better than other top contenders like Geale, Lee, Golovkin, Proksa, N'Jikam, Macklin, and Quillin.
If Martinez fights someone like Macklin then I wouldn't really see that as a duck of a quality opponent given his performance against Sturm.
so you only have to fight tough fighters to get to the top but once you get to the top its bum heaven? yes we all hate chavez jr and canelo because they fight bums but that doesn't mean sergio has to. sergio pretended to be different. he pretended to be the guy who would take on all challengers but nope he was just another fraud. worst part about it is he has the skills unlike chavez jr. chavez jr fights bums because he has to. he probably can't beat elite fighters. sergio can beat elite fighters but he's gone soft and won't risk it anymore unless its for huge money. he wants his million dollar a bum paycheck. a million dollars to fight pirog? no thanks. he's lost the hunger and that's why pirog would probably tune him up. he's got the hunger.
I think he'd be foolish not to capitalize on his position, especially given where he came from. He gets knocked out, and he's back to being high risk/low reward himself, making peanuts at 35. All those tough fights he took were risky, but very rewarding for a guy like him.
Yes, but Sergio is no Berto, he's truly gone from outhouse to penthouse at 35. He's made pennies for like 10 years and is now ready to cash in. I support that, just don't want a long string of lukewarm challengers.
Hope the JCC Jr fight happens for him, I actually think it might be a better fight than Macklin etc. Not that Chavez has proven anything. But he is improving, and will have a good size advantage. I'm not sure that version of Pavlik was much better all around.

See, this is one of the problems with boxing (not aimed at you Hero). Fans are talking about low risk, high reward fights and that they understand why it's happening.....**** that! We don't ever want any low risk high reward fights. We want high risk fights over and per and over. We are paying for these ****ers and that type of talk should only be heard from promoters, managers and all the other greedy, corrupt pigs in boxing.
Whether you love Martinez or not, and I do (no homo...or maybe just a little bit), you should want to see him in with the best even fight. Macklin is clearly not the best choice over Pirog or even on the same level apart from their resumes, unless you're Martinez's promoter.
We are his fans, not his goddamned promoter. I want to see him in with 'high-risk/who-cares-about-his-reward fighters'.

because pirog didn't get a gift decision over ruben varon 2 fights ago like macklin. oh wow macklin deserved to beat sturm but did you see sturms last fight against another unknown brit murray? looked like complete crap again. pirog smashed one of hbo's hype guys, dominates his opponents, has a belt, and actually wants to fight martinez unlike frauds like chavez and sturm. why wouldn't you fight him?
because he's had the best showings and is actually wanting to fight the best in the division (martinez). sturm, golovkin, and geale (or any other MW) have not called out martinez like pirog has and no one's resume in the division sticks out more than the rest, so the buzz pirog has surrounding him in his caling out of martinez and his performances make him seem like the second best at MW. like BennyST has said about the macklin matchup, martinez stopping him late is what we pretty much expect at this point. pirog's elusive style is deff something that interests a lot of people on how martinez will be able to deal with it. only other tricky guy in the division is proksa but i think pirog beats him pretty convincingly. others like golovkin and kid chocolate haven't really stood out as far as performance-wise goes. the entire division pretty much consists of up and coming contenders or prospects, and pirog is the best looking one out right now.
So you have a 40+ fight vet and a green 19 fight champ, both with one notable win. One is proven short of world class, the other unproven. I'd be more intrigued with a Pirog fight, I think Macklin is a foregone conclusion. I too was impressed with his effort against Sturm, but not that impressed, gave you my reasons above. And I'm not sure Sturm is a much better win than Jacobs, I don't see Jacobs losing to Martin Murray, Gevor and the like.
I agree Macklin is a better fight for Sergio, both risk and reward wise. But are we really gonna see him fight Dz, Barker, Macklin and Lee in a row?

:fing02:Because he is clearly more skilled than the other fighters in the division. It's that simple. We want to see the best fights supposedly, although I'm realising more and more that people on NSB don't actually want to see good fights between the best, they only want to see their fighter beat anyone that they can pretend was good.
It's simple. Years ago, when Mayweather was coming up, people saw him and wanted him fighting the best guys straight away because you can see he's incredibly skilled. You want to see how he handles the best guys and how the best guys handle him. That's what boxing is about, to me at least. Maybe not to you guys that would rather see him in with Macklin.
Pirog is a great fighter and has proven his skills hold up against top contenders. I want to see how well it holds up agains the best in the division, just as I want to see how Martinez can handle it. I don't give a toss about Macklin. We have seen that fight before. Limited brawler, no punching power, Martinez wins easy possibly by late TKO. There is nothing new there, apart from the old adage of 'anything can happen in boxing' and Macklin's only chance is that that 'anything' does happen.
We don't know what will happen in the Pirog/Sexy fight. DOes that make anyone else want to see it? :nonono:
:fing02: Tek dem pounches, haters.

Exactly, I'm not saying Macklin is the best or had the best fights, but here I'm making a comparison between Pirog's resume and Macklin's resume and IMO Macklin's fight against Sturm is a lot more important than Pirog's fight against Jacobs.

Dude, nobody is forgetting Macklin was robbed by Sturm, that's all they know about him. What people forget is that Macklin is a vet and a proven Euro level operator. What other Macklin fights impressed you the most?
Sturm is a synonym for cherrypicker, only Soto can contend. If Macklin was world class, Sturm wouldn't have fought him. He's been a "champ" for how many years, and his best defense is Sylvester?! So Macklin accomplished something only equaled by Gevor, Randy Johnson, Martin Murray, and only surpassed by Castillejo.

Yeah Martinez is fighting Macklin because both of them are promoted by Dibella, but IMO it's not a bad fight at all. People are forgetting that Macklin went to Germany to fight Sturm and gave a great fight, and in fact won the fight for many boxing fans.
I do believe that Martinez will beat Macklin, but I also believe that he could beat Pirog. The main problem with Pirog is that his only good fight was against Jacobs, so why isn't Proska rated higher even though he went to Germany and destroyed Sylvester in 3 rounds (not a great boxer, but not a bum nor a prospect either, he was still a rough hard to beat boxer)

All you have to do is watch Pirog to know he's a good fighter and better than Barker or Macklin.
Further, Martinez says he wants to fight Chavez jr. because he has his belt. Well what about Pirog? Doesn't he have his belt too? But he says he doesn't want to fight pirog because he stole his belt or whatever, that doesn't make any sense.
I want the fight for several reasons:
1). It's a unification bout most importantly. Isn't that what we boxing fans want, a single unified champ?
2). It's a very interesting match stylistically. Pirog has never fought anyone like Martinez and Martinez has never fought anyone like Pirog.
3). There aren't many other guys for Martinez to fight in the division. Forget Macklin, as far as I'm concerned there is Pirog, Golovkin & Kid Chocolate.
actually, I think Macklin is a decent fighter and a pretty bad style matchup for Martinez. I think hes having a bit more trouble in this fight than people are expecting.
Dont get me wrong man, I want Martinez to fight Pirog for the reasons you listed too. and I think hes a good fighter, no doubt. But the reality is resume wise he doesnt stand out from many of the other guys at MW. He is better than Barker though, Martinez shouldnt have wasted his time in that fight.
where did I say priog is top 3?
The ONLY reason Macklin is fighting Martinez is because he's also promoted by dibella which is an in-house fight and because Martinez will beat him. That's it.

You may very well be right, but his resume is better than Pirog's at this point.
Okay top 4 because you said there were only 3 fighters worth fighting Martinez in the division. You excluded Lee, Sturm, Geale, Proksa, Martin Murray, Macklin, and N'Jikam despite the fact they have similar if not better (in some cases) resumes.
All you have to do is watch Pirog to know he's a good fighter and better than Barker or Macklin.

Yeah let's just forget that Macklin beat Sturm (it was pretty clear that he did) and treat Pirog as a top three MW because he knocked out Jacobs.
Didnt you know? Beating an overrated prospect by knockout makes you the greatest ever. its even funnier how Jacobs was his best win, but some Pirog supporters will keep talking about how Jacobs was some ****ty overhyped bum.
that being said, I think Pirog is fairly talented and has a really interesting style, and is definitely a top fighter at Middleweight. I dont think he would beat Martinez, but that fight really should happen.
Pirog vs Golovkin would also be quite an interesting match.
He has not done much of anything to garner the rating he gets on this forum, all he did was beat another untested prospect like himself and 18 Russian turnip farmers.
I agree....I know I talk trash about the guy, he is probably a swell dude for all i know. The thing that urks me is that people are like "Martinez is ducking the guy", "Martinez fights these other bums but not Pirog"
I mean...REALLY? Both Barker and Dzinziruk had much better, established records than Pirog does. He hasn't even fought 20 fights in his entire pro career while these other guys that Martinez is allegedly "ducking" Pirog for have over 30 plus wins and are either undefeated, title-holders or both. Let Pirog get some more good wins under his belt, he has just ONE...just ONE win over a decent prospect.
If he beats one of these other guys that I see mentioned in here, Geale, Golovkin, etc. then maybe something can happen. It's like Martinez is a bum for not giving Pirog an "opportunity" when he had to fight and crawl his way to "the bigtime" by fighting guys he was supposed to lose to in the first place.....after 30 plus fights.
He is fighting Geale next, hopefully on Showtime.
You also have to realize Pirog tried to get big fights on HBO and Showtime after Jacobs but couldn't land anything, thus why he's fought in Russia, it's not his fault.
I've heard that and let's hope it becomes official. The winner would certainly bolster his claim to a shot at Martinesz.
