How is Martinez too big for Mayweather?

I believe Mayweather can defeat Sergio Martinez. As a fan I want to see that fight. But if I were the fighter...that's kind of f*cked up. Mayweather vs Martinez at 154 is fine. But the problem is...what comes after? Andre Ward? Hopkins?? Then the Klitchkos? And if he doesn't fight them he's ducking and dodging?? See the problem is people are always going to wonder what's next.

Martinez fight plan should be as follows: Chavez Jnr Get the belt back that is rightfully his. Alvarez Trust me Alvarez is a middleweight this fight is legit. Pirog Once Pirog and his team realise that he is not a draw even compared to Martinez and don't price themsleves out, this is a real hard fight for martinez, one that could turn ugly. Golovkin Big puncher swansong fight, probaly a repeat of Pavlik fight. Sturm This eventually has to happen, will take longer now as he has to give Murray a rematch. Murray If Murrray beats Sturm, Martinez beats Murray easily, unlike Barker. Macklin Another name on the resume, to bulk up a career that was moonlighting. Andy Lee If Lee starts to climb the rankings and devolops nicely this will be a sure fight in a year or two. Now i don't see why people are still talking about Mayweather and Pacquiao other than Martinez wanting to cash in. Martinez beats 4/5 above and he is rightfully a HOF and probaly has a better legacy at middleweight than Hopkins.

Ray Leonard went up to MW to fight Hagler. No one is even asking Floyd to go to 160, he just has to fight at 154. ray leonard started his career at 147, he was a very big WW. floyd started his career at 130, hes a very small WW. leonard fighting at 160 is like floyd fighting at 140, which he has and then some. floyd moving up to 160 would be like leonard moving up to CW. as we all know leonard made lalonde come down from 175 to fight him and he was garbage.

martinez is a more solid MW than floyd is a WW, so hes two full weighclasses bigger. the problem isnt martinez being too big though, its floyd being too small. let me explain.. its not that floyd cant fight martinez bcuz hes too strong and powerful, its that floyd would have to move up to a weight where he wouldnt be able to perform. if he comes in at 148 he gives up like 20lbs which is too much. if he weighs over 150 he is gonna lose all his speed, reflexes, stamina and even punching power since putting on way too much mass will make a fighter so slow he will lose all explosiveness even though hes getting stronger. we already saw floyd at 150 against DLH and he wasnt his usual self although he still won. now martinez is even bigger than DLH, much bigger. i understand ppl want to see these big p4p matchups, but if the fighters are gonna handicap themselfs is it really worth it? some ppl seem like they would rather watch two top guys from different weights fighting at half their ability trying to find mutual ground rather than the two best guy in the same wightclass performing at their best.

The 168 fighters are not considered the P4P best and don't offer the same amount of money. I can't blame him in that regard given his age. The three pounds he is asking for is less than the 168 fighters have asked him to gain. Martinez is arguably a natural JMW, which is only a weight class above WW. Also, as pointed out Floyd already fought De La Hoya at 154 and Martinez came in at 165 with Barker, while Ortiz was only a pound less against Floyd. This is without Martinez working to reduce weight, so you got to believe he could at least get down to 160. I agree. One cannot argue about why Martinez is attempting to call out the naturally smaller guys in the sport of boxing, like Mayweather and Pacquiao as opposed to the naturally larger ones, who are closer to his own size or even a little bigger, because none of them in those divisions are either cash cows or pay per view attractions. Also, they don't generate a lot of buzz and excitement at the box office either. So sure from a pure business standpoint. I can totally understand the reasoning behind Martinez logic in calling out Floyd Money Mayweather, because he is a draw, have a loyal following and a huge fan base also. So Martinez has at least a four weight class advantage over Mayweather. The only reason why Floyd fought De La Hoya at LMW, was because Oscar had leverage over him and held all the cards. However at this point, Martinez has no leverage at all over Mayweather, because he has nothing Floyd needs in terms of money. He can make money without Sergio Martinez, while Sergio Martinez cannot make a huge payday without Floyd unless Manny Pacquiao agrees to fight him.

Who said Floyd was too small or that Martinez is too big? Any time I see an article about Martinez wanting to fight Floyd I'll see numerous people call him out by saying he is too big for Floyd.

Martinez is a middleweight while Floyd is a natural welter so obviously Sergio will have the advantage if they fight, even if there's a catch weight involved. I don't think it's likely that Floyd will fight someone he knows will have an advantage over him. Martinez should be realistic and just try to clean all the belts at 160, starting with Chavez Jr.

dont see the problem...duran moved up from lightweight, m. taylor moved down, leonard moved up etc etc....and he's already fought at the weight class. kinda seems like people are just making excuses for the guy. and honestly its the only fight to see, since floyd UD's pacman easily.

no way floyd came in at 154 last time.. he was looking a good 160 at least. he looked huge against ortiz and he looked bigger than mosley too! He weighed 150 on the HBO scale and 149 thirty days before the fight with Ortiz. I don't know where these other weights are coming from but they are innacurate. I'm guessing you're joking though.
