Just spoke to both @THEREALBHOP and @OfficialBadChad about the decision. Dawson wants a rematch, Hopkins not interested.
Oh how the tables have turned.
I like Hopkins, especially because he's from Philly, but I'm getting tired of his antics.
As soon as he went down I knew he wasnt gonna go on. Everyone knew he wasnt going to go on. He didnt move his shoulder around or throw a shadow punch to see if he was alright, he made no attempt to carry on. It was really a disgusting display. I have serious doubts that he was actually injured. And even if he was it was a result of his own over exaggeration from Dawson ducking into him.
I think Hopkins deserves the benefit of the doubt as to whether he could go on or not. If he felt he was unfairly disadvantaged early in the fight and it would likely cause him to lose then sobeit. I would still be interested in watching him fight again and wouldn't expect him to fight any lesser an opponent than Dawson...whoever that may be.
Dawson should move on. He chased HOP for years and when He finally got the fight the old man found a way to avoid the beating and keep his title.
Dawson should find a REAL champion to continue his legacy.
Out with the old, IN with the new.
They need to fight again. I don't know how either fighter or fans of either fighter could be satisfied. Enough of this, "Oh he didn't want the rematch at first" bullshiit. It's simple. Make the fukking rematch happen, or there will be no closure.
when did berenard want a rematch ? when dawson and hopkins were both interviewed after the fight hopkins made no mmention of a rematch or wanting a rematch
pff if hopkins doesn't give him a rematch its beyond lame. Hell he could stay champ for another twenty years if he keeps this strategy up.
Both fighters have been back and fourth about a rematch. Dawson is willing to fight again, but of course Hopkins is scared.
I personally wouldn't mind the rematch but I know you and I would be in the minority in that. I just don't see HBO putting up the money required for each guy to make this fight happen, not after how the first fight did less than 50 thousand buys. It would have to be on regular HBO, so would HBO drop $3 million or so for the fight? Seems unlikely. If hopkins or dawson or both didn't want the fight, I wouldn't blame them, especially 'nard at this point in his career. However if HBO is willing, sure go for it.
From an "entertainment" point of view, I think there are a few other fights out there for hopkins that would be more entertaining and would do better ratings. And I still want to see Dawson vs Pascal, I think that's a fight that would also do good numbers.
Yeah I hear ya, pal. What you say makes sense.
I would certainly like to see the rematch, but I guess if it doesn't come off, like you said, there are some great match-ups to be had that would be more fan friendly.
Just a shame there might always be that lingering question left unanswered. Who would have won?
CHAMPION: Bernard Hopkins
1. Jean Pascal
2. Tavoris Cloud
3. Chad Dawson
4. Nathan Cleverly

Fair enough, I'm not going to argue against facts, but regardless ... business is unfinished. Nobody knows who was going to win that fight. Dawson got his shot at the title. It's been ruled an NC. A rematch is necessary.
And out of those 4 guys, Dawson is the greatest threat in my opinion.
Dawson said no numerous times right after the fight.
Hopkins wanted a rematch.
Hopkins giving Chad a taste of his own medicine.
Taste of his own medicine? Quit being a Hopkins nuthugger, after the fight there was a lot of uncertainty, nothing was official. Now everything has been cleared, Hopkins refusing to fight Dawson again just proves he is a coward.
Who cares about who said what to who and when.
These are the two best guys in the division and they need to fight again.
I don't care if it's a bore-fest. I was enjoying the fight up until the end. I like seeing how guys like this match up.
I actually don't blame him for once.
He's hardly got time on his hands, why fight the same guy twice at this stage?
Why put more cash into a guys back pocket, whom injured you and put you out for awhile?
At least he doesn't want crap fights.
