Cotto Is Doing The Smart Thing With His Career

As much as I love Cotto as a boxer he should stay away from Pac I don't think he has a shot... Closer fight but he will lose. I think honestly dont care if I get blasted for this he should pursue a catch weight fight @ 156 against Sergio. The reson I say that is because if he (BIG) if he wins it will solidify his career for all the doubters. Or fight Canelo or Kirkland at 154 then retire. With the right strategy and game plan and pursuing it for 12 rounds.. i got Cotto on a rematch against Pacquiao.. Pacquiao its not unbeatable his got alot of weaknesses and people dont see it.. Good fighter but im sure Cotto and Diaz can come up with a gameplan and get the win.. and Cotto will defenately beat Canelo Kirkland Chavez jr and Ortiz.. Cotto its way smarter than these kids and no doubt he will take care of any of them..

Cotto was not an unstoppable force because he never had a trainer that could mold him in to one, but he always had the talent to become one. Is amazing it took Steward and now Diaz to work on the things that he should have been working from the start of his pro career. Like clinching, the right hand, defense from uppercuts, defense for body punches and learning how to fight moving away from your opponent. Before Diaz started to train Cotto his style of boxing was to move away but not giving angles just backing down on straight lines, he would never circle or turn his opponent and also lets not forget the habit on stoping on the ropes that **** was there even before the first Margarito fight just look at his fight with Abdulaev. Evangelista and Santiago never did anything to improve Cotto. They work the same **** all the time. Good post. I think he can definitely keep improving. He has the intelligence and talent to fight smart he just needs the tools/knowhow.

All I want is the Pacman rematch, I'm sure he wins!! If the Mayweather fight can't be made, I think this will be next. Then, depending on who wins, they will be pitted against Bradley.........all big money in Arum's pockets.

He beats these 4 Canelo Kirkland Ortiz AND Chevez jr. ...stay away from Floyd and Pac. no Margo trilogy....he could easily lose his eyesight if he fights anybody good again.

Cotto-Pacquiao II Cotto-Mayweather Cotto-Canelo Cotto-Kirkland Cotto-Ortiz I wouldn't rule out a Margarito trilogy, for the fans that are left with questions of what would've happened in rounds 10-12, and the ones complaining that they're currently 1-1. There is no need for a Margarito trilogy and there should be no questions about what could have happen in rounds 10-12. Cotto dominated him and Margarito is not a one punch KO artist he had not laid out the punishment needed to stop Cotto in just 3 rounds and with one eye he had no chance. I'm not sure Miguel Cotto beats Manny Pacquiao at any weight under 154lbs, but I do know that he's got his groove back. Miguel Cotto was never an "unstoppable" force, or an ATG caliber fighter. I think his win over Margarito definitely makes him confident in himself again. His right hand is a HUGE improvement, and his movement and footwork were a lot better. I don't think it's fair to count him out just because he's not in Pacquaio or Mayweather's level. He's a talented boxer who's got some left in the tank, and it's an honor to watch. Mexican fan? I don't have to be a fan of anyone to know that Cotto is a good fighter, but not a great fighter. If Cotto could get past Marquez, he doesn't look any better doing it then then Pac did. but we all know that fight its not gonna happen so lets just be realistic and talk about what could happen in 2012 not what u would like to happen cuz we all wish alot of things to happen but they dont right?? so lets be realistic and serious buddy

As long as he limits punching off his backfoot and steps into his shots from time to time and work the body a bit more sounds like the right idea if you want to prolong your career.

he'd probably beat canelo and chavez jr, but not pacquiao and especially not floyd. cotto isn't shot nor done, but he's clearly past his prime and wouldn't have little to no chance against pacquiao and floyd i got Cotto on a rematch against Pacquiao... Really man? Last time I checked, Cotto and Marquez were the same hight and had the same arm reach. Marquez isn't like Marg. Marquez actually throws straight, hard, clean punches. I would even go as far to say that he hits as hard as Cotto, if not harder. Marquez is one of the best counter punchers in boxing today and he throws punches in bunches. ok now youve gone to far.. cotto isn't smarter than JMM in any way man. JMM is brilliant in there. looked at what an old, ballooned version of him did against manny JMM might be a lil more dicipline than Cotto but Cotto is smarter than JMM specially with the trainer he has now i see him being more dedicated to the sport at this level and this point of his career

A catch weight at 150 would be good enough. Cotto wanted Marg to fight at a catch weight, so I see no reason why he would turn it down. they can fight at 147 and Cotto will still own jmm... jmm doesnt have the punching power to even hurt Cotto.. and to be honest Cotto is faster than jmm and smarter inside the ring.. jmm vs Cotto :) lets be serious.. we all know Cotto will own jmm
