Apparently Williams is campaigning for a fight vs Miguel in spring 2012. Personally i dont know what he has done to earn a Cotto fight seeing that he lost to Sergio then "won" vs Lara but in reality lost both.Who would you guys give the W in this fight?
Cotto's footwork looked 10x better then it did in any of his previous fights. With that being said, Paul putting presure on Cotto wouldn't really do much as it would have before. Cotto can beat that presure now and would beat Paul fairly easy IMO. This fight would go exactly how the Margarita fight went with Cotto boxing Paul's socks off. There's zero chance Cotto takes this fight because there is no money to be made and nothing to gain off it.
Cotto is easier to hit than Williams..but he's not as tough...
He can't keep Williams off him.
Did you really just say Cotto is easier to hit than Paul Williams? :lol1:
As mentioned earlier, Pwill will not pressure cotto as Margarito did. Cotto will plant his feet and rip him left hooks to the ribcage all day. Pwill we be pissing blood for weeks. Besides pwill is just throwing bait out there to see if Cotto bites.
People underestimate Cotto's skills. He's shown that he can fight tall people pretty effectively. Williams will not bring the type of relentlessness that Marg brings and is easy to hit. Cotto fukks him up.
I've been saying it all for a couple months now. Even this current version would beat Cotto/Margarito.
Williams still has a chin, and Lara looked a bit tired (even having an easy time against Williams). I still don't think he beats Cotto after those two performances.
On paper, Williams' is taller, a southpaw, has a lot of stamina, and is a pressure fighter...but his chin isn't as good as Margarito's.
I'm sorry, when you get knocked out cold, you're rarely the same ever again.
Margarito's chin>Williams' chin at this point
Cotto would need spring shoes to reach it, though.
Cotto would beat Williams at this point. I used to be high on Williams when it seemed like he was on top of his game. But he couldn't even beat Cintron regardless if Cintron jumped out of the ring the way he did or not.
Even when Williams was at his height (no pun intended) of overratedness with "the next Tommy Hearns" and "most avoided man in boxing" talk, I always felt that Cotto would give this guy a beating. And now it's a pointless match up unless Williams goes down to 154 and becomes a contender, which I highly doubt is going to happen.
Williams is 0-3 in his last 3 fights; close loss to Martinez, then got canvas-fukked by Martinez in 2, and lost 9 rounds against Lara. Guy is in no position to get a Cotto fight, plus Cotto hasn't been facing the absolute best lately and needs to fight an elite opponent.
P Williams size, lefty stance, workrate and chin might be a lot to overcome by Cotto.
Cotto can pull a Quintana on him but in no way it would be an easy fight.
Not a fight that I would be interested in cause P W has been looking like he is on his way down
Personally i dont know what he has done to earn a Cotto fight seeing that he lost to Sergio then "won" vs Lara but in reality lost both.
Haven't you heard? Losing is how you earn fights nowadays. That's why nobody is more deserving than Paul Williams right now.
P-will: 6'3ft, 82inch reach
Cotto: 5'8ft, 68inch reach.................
Styles makes fights and Pwill weakness is counter-punching southpaws, which people seem to forget.
Martinez, Quintana, Lara.. All southpaws that beat Williams with the left cross/left overhand which Williams seems to be blind to.
Cotto has problems with southpaws and pressure fighters....
Paul williams: massive volume, cardio and southpaw. + massive size advantage and perfect style amtch up.
Sorry Paul would beat Cotto H2H.
Cotto is still better than him
Physically, it's still a tough fight for Cotto with the size difference. Williams' ship though has come and gone. Cotto's only going to fight big names for big money. Williams unfortunately doesn't fall in that category.
I'm actually a Cotto fan bro.
I'm just pointing out that Cotto has trouble with bigger fighters with great workrates.
Williams has both of those attributes so i could see him causing Cotto serious problems.
I use to think that way about this match-up.
But PW's lack of power and his chin seemingly being worn down has changed my mind.
He even seems slower now.
Would have to give the edge to Cotto.
I think cotto's "blueprint" on how to beat bigger pressure-volume type fighters would work well against Williams. He's skinny and i bet body hooks takes his sails down.
but like has been said, fight probably won't happen
Cotto beats him to a pulp, I dont care how tall this bum is, Cotto puts hi head on Williams chest and rips his ass with left hooks all night!!
Williams has done **** to deserve a fight with Cotto at this point!!!
Like Reedickyaluss said it wont happend anyways, dont waste your time
