'Mayweather should accept Pacquiao fight already'
MANILA, Philippines – Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) legend BJ Penn said boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao doesn’t need a 4th fight against bitter rival Juan Manuel Marquez.
Penn, who is currently in Manila to promote the sport of mixed martial arts (MMA), said Pacquiao already has 2 wins over the Mexican champion.
"Manny is 1-2… 1 draw and 2 . I think he's proved that," Penn said in an interview with ANC's Boyet Sison.
Penn said he saw the Pacquiao-Marquez fight and admitted that it was a close bout.
But the MMA legend said Marquez failed to bring the fight to Pacquiao.
"When I was watching the fight, I thought it was close… But Manny's the champion, you have to beat the champion," he said.
When asked about the Floyd Mayweather Jr. superfight, Penn said he hopes that the fight will be done soon.
"Mayweather should accept this fight already. This fight is what we've all been waiting for... UFC fighters, regular fans, we are waiting for this fight."
Boxing is the only real fight sport on the planet.
Kickboxing, muay thai, mma, Judo are all fake.
I can't believe that Bernard Hopkins started respecting mma fighters like eddie alvarez and rashad evans, those guys would not have been boxing champions. Real fighters.
Ignorance at his best ........
If BJ spent less time rolling around on the ground with other men and instead spent some of his time keeping up with the news, he'd realize the American Idol wannabe is holding up the fight.
you mean filipino idol...a poor mans version of american idol with strong homosexual overtones.
Penn would tear Hopkins' arm clean off.
Even Hopkins respects MMA now, Cotto( he has trained with MMA fighters), Ward ( he spars and is friends with Diaz), Tua, Klitschkos and Pacquiao respect MMA
I didn´t know that, but oh well, Díaz is a very common surname in Jálisco. I like Díaz a lot, not huge ko power... but every punch from him hurts and mixes his punches very well. Nobody was able to do that to Penn before.
Diaz is a machine
He may or may not be. Who knows? He doesn't claim it. He doesn't speak spanish. He's more gringo than anything else, including culture.
Gringo?, gringos are sajones, irish, and the like... Díaz is a hispanic and it shows.
Nick Diaz is Mexican and he beat the shat out of him not even Lyoto Machida owned Penn as bad as Nick Did

I don't get why some of you are so against MMA and assume the fans don't know or like Boxing a lot of them have more knowledge than some of you and love Boxing as well. On Sherdog the Mayweather vs Pacquiao thread has 981 replies

GSP did though it's gonna be a great fight between Diaz and GSP
Mayweather has already accepted the fight, quite publicly, at that.
BJ Penn doesn't know WTF he's talking about, and he should leave the fight game to people who are actually skilled at it.
Not so fast because Mayweather can have alzheimer at anytime LOL.
U do know Penn have also train with mayweather sr right? And u do know Penn said sr. showed him stuff that roach never did right? U do know that Penn's last fight was at a higher weight against Diaz who have all the advantages over Penn right? lastly Diaz is not Mexican or atleast he doesn't claim to be.
Who said Diaz is mexican?, he is a hispanic dude just like Márquez or Frank Juárez Shamrock. And what the mayweathers have to do in this conversation?. And yes, Diaz had a height and reach advantage... doesn´t change the fact that Penn got the fist beating of his life just like Pac got the boxing lesson of his life.

Boxing is a great Sport but so is MMA. All the other disciplines you mentioned are important in MMA too

Please dude. Penn is one of the biggest cry babies in mma. Boo hoo I wasnt motivated, boo hoo he used vaseline on his shoulder. That dude has an excuse for everything which reminds me of a bunch of slow motion, foot stomp threads.
hahahahah this is true. but boy is bj gifted, his problem is he could never fight 5 rounds!! but this was in the early 2000s were prolly alot of those boys were juicing
You were trying to be coy, and disguise your insinuations as questions.
Sounds like an insinuation, to me. As nowhere in my post that you quoted did I even allude to what you're refering to. The entire point was that BJ Penn should STFU when it comes to a sport he obviously knows nothing about. Just because he trained with Freddie Roach doesn't even make him as qualified to comment on boxing as you, or I are, as lifelong fans.
For fuck's sake, he's trying to imply that Mayweather doesn't want the fight, when it's quite obvious to anybody who's been following this thing for more than a week, that Arum is the one holding up this fight.
I think he's been kicked in the face too many times. Either that, or he's just being blindly loyal (in spite of the facts) to Team Pacquiao because Freddie showed him some techniques.
Look, I believe Mayweather wants the fight. I'll give him the advantage in his fight against Pacquiao. I believe Arum is the big problem here too, so I’m worried if this fight will ever happen when he's at the helm.
I don't feel i was trying to disguise insinuations as questions. I was stating the impressions I took from your comments and essentially asked if those were correct or not. You say Penn should leave the fight game to people who are actually skilled at it. My impression on that is you are saying only people who are skilled at boxing are allowed to comment on it. I was asking you if that is the case.
In your second post you stated that BJ Penn = the most physically fit person in a fat camp. Therefore fat camp = mma world, right? Even though you say it's a joke, in my opinion it is an insult and not funny. My impression is that fat camp= mma world is insulting to people who truly are skilled in a variety of fighting styles. And i never said i think mma guys are good at throwing hands. You are putting words in my mouth with that.
You don't respect MMA. That's fine. I accept that. I'm not trying to convert anybody. I do respect MMA. I think the majority of mma fighters are great athletes who are highly skilled in a variety of fighting styles. They aren't anywhere near as elite level boxers in terms of boxing sure, but they are highly skilled in other fighting disciplines. I'm just stating that I don't see how a person can't at least respect that a little. Therefore I assumed it was more likely you just don't like it.
Everybody is entitled to an opinion, i don’t think you have to be an active competitor in a sport to comment on it.
You were trying to be coy, and disguise your insinuations as questions.
So the only people you think should comment on the fight game are professional or olympic boxers? No one else is allowed to have an opinion?

1.) I suggest you re-read my first post, as I clearly never said anything about BJ not being allowed to comment. Stop trying to put words in my mouth.
2.) Once again, you're trying to put words in my mouth. I made a joke about the lack of quality strikers in MMA, comparing the "best" striker in MMA, to the most physically fit kid at "fat camp". If you think MMA is loaded with guys who can throw hands well, then this conversation need not go any further.
3.) What part of "I don't respect them" are you having difficulty with? And once again you go back to implying the same crap you tried to imply with your first 2 talking points. : That I said only professional boxers are allowed to comment on the fight game. In reality, I'm saying MMA guys should keep their nose in their own sport, and vice versa.
If BJ Penn knew "fuck all" about boxing, he'd have been a boxer. Furthermore, if he knew "fuck all" about fighting, he wouldn't have lost one third of his bouts.
**Awaits response from you once again trying to tell me what I meant by my post.....**
If you noticed my posts you can see that i was asking you questions, not putting words in your mouth as you say. If you are going to make these kinds of comments you should be more clear. I can't read your mind. That is why I was awaiting your response. You are entitled to your own opinon, i don't have a problem with that.
So the only people you think should comment on the fight game are professional or olympic boxers? No one else is allowed to have an opinion?
So in your opinion Olympic-level wrestlers, world champion jiu jitsu champions, kickboxers and judo champions are equivalent to the people at a fat camp? You really think that is a valid comparison?
You don't respect them, or you don't care about them? I think it's the latter. A lot of these fighters in MMA are very athletic and highly skilled in jiu jitsu, wrestling, kickboxing, judo, muay thai and other fighting disciplines. I don't see how a person can't at least respect that. And to take from your first point, to "leave the fight game to people who actually are skilled at it." Where does that place your opinion on MMA? If you aren't skilled in MMA, you shouldn't even be talking about it. Right?

Being the most "skilled" boxer in MMA is a bit like being the most physically fit person at "fat camp" : Your peers may respect you, but nobody else does. :lol1:
So in your opinion Olympic-level wrestlers, world champion jiu jitsu champions, kickboxers and judo champions are equivalent to the people at a fat camp? You really think that is a valid comparison?
I don't respect MMA, it's fighters, or it's fans. Period.
"Ignorance" doesn't even begin to factor into the equation, and your attempt to label me as such is about as hollow as your demands that I "show some respect" As this is clearly a matter of personal opinion, nothing more, nothing less.

pac still hiding in the deep jungles of the Filipines? :lol1:

You're a Hari fan too lol I don't like how he acts but he's a great Kickboxer after his fight with Saki he's going to Boxing I wanna see how he does he wouldn't be able to fight the Klitschkos for at least a few years they'd retire by then anyway
