People say you have to beat the champ? Well you judge round by round not the fight as a whole. Close rounds I made even. This just my take.

118-110 Leonard (this judge should be executed)
115-113 Leonard
The fight could have went either way but Hagler looked slow and missed a lot. I did include Haglers body work as well in the scoring. I had Leonard winning rounds by landing the cleaner punches more frequently and most of the rounds I gave Leonard, Hagler didn't throw much. The rounds I gave to Hagler he threw and landed more and Ray didnt throw enough. Close fight and I believe Hagler didn't do enough early to secure his title defense.
Your take, keep it civil ladies.
I actually had it even. Just like the poll vote is turning out. Leonard deserves credit for his miracle comeback and Hagler should have kept his title.
Leonard stole alot of those rounds down with his flurries, strange Hagler never caught on to that strategy
Would you change your strategy if you thought you were controlling 2 and a half out of 3mins of every round?
My card:
1. Leonard 10-9
2. Leonard 10-9
3. Leonard 10-9
4. Leonard 10-9
5. Hagler 10-9
6. Leonard 10-9
7. Hagler 10-9
8. Hagler 10-9
9. Draw 10-10
10. Hagler 10-9
11. Leonard 10-9
12. Hagler 10-9
115-114 Leonard
I thought Hagler retired after the fight??
not immediately after if i remember correctly...he retired after he saw that a rematch with srl wasn't happening...
i thought it was a draw at best, but wasn't mad at srl getting the nod...it was more of a boxing match/show than a fight, and srl had better ring generalship and was putting together some nice combinations...hagler definitely controlled the infighting and forced srl to fight in the 9th round, but imo gave up the early rounds and didn't cut off the ring on srl to make it more of a war of attrition...hagler also tired bad down the stretch
it was a way past prime hagler vs. a slightly past prime srl, but at the time it was the biggest fight for both of them...fight should have happened when both were at their peak...i'll say one thing though, srl may have been a poster boy, but his chin and heart in that fight was unquestionable
Indeed I found the scores a bit perplexing. I can never understand how, when one fighter is landing clean, hard shots, and the other flurries and hits gloves or glances shots off the forehead, how judges score things in favour of the latter.
If Hagler had been given the nod, oh how differently the world would look upon both he and Sugar Ray Leonard.
IMO It was Leonard who was landing the clean hard shots. His flurries were also solid. Yes they bounced off Hagler, but so did most of his opponents punches.
Leonard made Hagler miss badly throughout the fight, and simply outboxed him.
I always find it strange people talk about Leonards 'pitty pat' shots, when it was actually Hagler throwing mostly arm punches.
And Floyd lost to Castillo and was losing 3 out of 4 rounds against Ortiz. It happens and at the end of the day it doesn't matter if they got robbed because fans know what's up.
On what planet did Floyd lose 3 rounds to Ortiz?

He DID catch on to it and spoke very bitterly about it immediately after the fight and brings it up any thime the fight is discussed ever since. Leonard very smartly refused to give him a rematch, and as we've all seen numerous times, when describing thepossibility of a rematch, Leonard wags his head, grins in a knowing way and says "ahhh ah...noooo...not me" just about telling us that he's not that stupid, that he knows he got the undeserved win with his game of end of round 30 second pitter-patting against gloves, air, anything.
