While speaking to @ToddDuboef he also said that @Brandon_Rios1 vs. Gamboa is in @trboxing's plan for mid-2012. YES! #boxing
Discuss :boxing:
it's not happening
Gamboa advised TR he wants to move up in weight
he told them one name he wanted was Rios
this wasn't the powers that be this was Gamboa intiated it and Brandon accepting it
This post makes ZERO sense whatsoever?? Jesus please take 10 seconds to read what you wrote.
Arum said that he hoped to land THE RING's No. 1-rated featherweight Gamboa (21-0, 16 KOs) in the ring against an opponent to be determined "probably in February."
"A lot of things can happen in the interim, but that is the gameplan, for Gamboa and Rios to meet next year. I don't know when, but it will be whenever we feel that the cake is baked," said Arum.
would be a tough fight for ciclon ,rios cuts that ring off nicely. like arum says "when the cake is baked" which means problably late 2013 or not at all.
Yea right this fight will never happen. Another BS talk by Arum's adopted son. Rios is way too big for Gamboa. Rios is about 5'10 and walks around at 170, Gamboa is 5'5 and at most he walks around at 140 lbs.
Gamboa wants it,Rios wants it.I can see it happening.
That is how he fights, actually all Cuban boxers fight that way, a least the good ones, Lara, Rigondeaux, Casamayor, Hurtado, Hernandez, Salinas, Franco, solis, etc.. that's the way they teach back on the Island, Gamboa in some fights has choose to be more aggressive but he is a his best when fighting from the outside, fighters can't even touch him.
The Gamboa we saw against Ponce De Leon was not the same Yuri we've come to know as a professional. To say "that is how he fights" is inaccurate, in my opinion. Gamboa has "chosen" to be more aggressive in every fight before Ponce. Yuri indeed keeps his distance much of the time, but he always (up until the Ponce fight) pounces with multiple combinations. Gamboa chose to pot-shot Daniel while maintaining his distance for much longer periods than usual. That is how I see him fighting Rios, and it's not his usual style.

I disagree with the bold. Everything must be taken on a case-by-case basis. Size and strength isn't everything in boxing, but they are significant advantages. Depending on other factors, they may be decisive. I think that, because Rios is bigger and stronger, Gamboa will be forced to fight in a manner he's unaccustomed to. Yuri will have to fight from the outside with constant movement and picking his shots. Gamboa's strategy in the Ponce De Leon fight might well have been done in preparation for Rios.

As boxing fans, we should know all too well that the whole "too big and too strong" logic is not valid anymore.
Rios is more limited than a lot of people will admit. I really like watching him fight and will root for him if this fight is made, but I think Gamboa gets him by UD.

Gamboa is moving up to 130 and he will probably fight for a belt on his second fight, if he wins I see him challenging Rios for the 135 lbs, and that will be the end of Rios rein, he is just a brawler and Gamboa will take him apart, UD or late KO for Gamboa.

Great fight, but I thought Rios was talking about to moving up to 140 relatively soon.
That's why they want to make it by mid 2012. Pretty sure they know Rios is getting too big for 135 and the window for the fight is closing. They won't sit on this one like they did Juanma-Gamboa. Time is of the essence, so Summer 2012 it is.
