Before we start discussing this sensitive topic I ask for everyone to put in their effort in keeping things respectful and on a mature discussing level. Thank you. It could end up being a very interesting discussion if we approach it in a mature manner.
It's nothing new in sports yet like in the military, it's the sort of thing you don't ask, don't tell. A topic our society keeps as something prohibited and something that if you do come out an admit - it is seen as this big scandalous and controversial act.
Homosexuality is still kind of a forbidden topic when it comes to sports. It's something that is still kept secret and hidden by many. Homosexuality in sports is not seen as something normal by fans, it is not accepted by the community of fans or our society.
It is an interesting topic that many don't dare to touch on or discuss but it is present.
We've seen a FEW CASES of gay athletes coming out of the closet and revealing their sexuality.
Here's a list of gay athletes:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_lesbian,_gay,_bisexual,_and_transgender_sportspeople
Now as you can see there are only two boxers mentioned on that list:
Mark Deluc
Emile Griffith (Not mentioned in the list but I remember him coming out in a book)
Lisa-Marie Vizaniari
Now, these are athletes who've had the bravery of coming out and exposing their sexuality to the world.
And now, my questions are as follow...
- Do you think we have gay boxers amongst the sport today that have not come out and are probably engaged/married to females?
- If you had to guess, which boxers would you be suspicious of and wouldn't be surprised if they admitted they were homosexual?
- Also, what is your stance on homosexuality in sports and are you okay with it?
- Would you stop supporting your favorite boxer if he said he was gay?
Discussion is now open.
I don't really care if Tyrone Everett liked to bang trannies, Oscar liked to dress like one, if Donald Curry and Emile Griffith forever live on "Queer Street".
I'm watching sports for entertainment.
Let's look at some of the upstanding citizens boxing has produced: woman-beaters like Gatti & Corrales, dog-killers like McClellan, rapists like LaMotta, murderers like Monzon, borderline retards like Victor Ortiz. I don't really care if the fighter likes to smoke pole.
Hell, Leonard Elerbee is in love with Floyd Mayweather, someone he actually knows personally. A quarter of this board is in love with Mayweather also, and they don't know Floyd personally.
Who is worse?
You bring up some good points. I also watch the sport to be entertained, I don't follow their personal lives because that is irrelevant to what they do in the playing field.
However, I do think that those who are homosexual should feel comfortable enough to come out and admit it. Then again that's their business and they should do whatever makes them feel comfortable.

i have no problem with gay people but they should stay in the closet
ones sexuality is no other persons business yet it seems so important for gay people to "come out" and let the whole world know,
straiht people don't make a formal announcement that they are infact straight now do they.
There are no more gay people that feel everyone should know they are gay than there are straight people who brag about all the chicks or dudes they bang.
Just when I thought you were trolling with your other fight a champion topic, now i'm not sure. I think you are probably just an idiot.
Who cares if someone is gay? The only people that worry about gay people are teenagers and young men who are not confident about the world around them and their place in it.
Completely agree. I couldn't care less whether any athlete or person in general is gay, it effects me in no way and effects my opinion of them in no way.
I wonder if there will ever be a day that sports will change enough for gay athletes to feel comfortable saying they are gay. I'd love to see some Floyd Mayweather type loudmouth try and use their opponent's homosexuality against them, only to get knocked the f*** out. Dude could scream "You just got knocked out by a f*g!" afterwards.
People here would seriously stop supporting a boxer if he was gay?
You're as bad as teenage girls who stop buying records by gay singers. It's laughable.
It makes no difference at all who a boxer's sleeping with, so long as it's all legal.
i hope every homosexual fighter in boxing get's ko'd like rahman did against maskaev, how about that for maturity?

lmaaoooo!!!!!!
I wouldn't have a problem if Pacquiao came out and said he was gay, I'd still support him. However, if Floyd comes out and says he's gay I would want him to get beaten down to the ground really bad. Maybe it's because of his personality and that I don't like him. I would respect his sexuality, just not him as a person but for other various reasons.
But I don't judge.
Wait what? that post made no sense whatsoever? Are you trying to say regardless of whether Floyd's gay or not you'd still hate him? Because you worded it to sound like you want him to get beaten bad if he were gay. And what does it matter? It shouldn't even be an issue why make it one with this dumb ignorant thread?
I personally don't give a shit if a person likes dick, pussy or Ass
THATS WHAT IM SAYING
I don't care if Pacquiao takes it in the butt or not, it doesn't matter to me. He still can't box and THAT is what really matters.
In response to questions...
1. Yes, there are gay boxers in boxing today.
2. If I had to guess...David Haye, Floyd Mayweather, Alfonso Gomez, Oscar de la Hoya, Zab Judah, and possible but not probable, Lucian Bute.
3. Not too interested in homosexuals in combat sports.
4. I have a hard time supporting any boxer I think is gay. I don't think I could support any boxer who is a fudge packer, unless it's Tommy Hearns. That dude was so mean he gets to have whatever he wants.:luvbed:
It's 2 freaking A.M. and I just burst out laughing over here!

From one mature poster to another, no-one really cares what an adult does in the privacy of their bedroom with another adult provided that no kids or little harmful furry animals are involved. Folk just need to keep that private 5hit just that - private. No-one really wants to see another person flaunting their sexuality in public like its anyone elses business other than their own. So that rules out whether your tongue kissing another person (male or female), putting up pictures of yourself in ladies' panties while you're wearing outsized boxing gloves or whatever. If your gay keep that 5h!t to yourself anf your boyfriend it's that simple. But don't get me wrong because it cuts both ways. A straight man is going to look a jerk getting caught out doing some freaky 5h!t with a broad too. Yeah I know some folk will be jumping up & down tripping that there's nothing freaky about being gay but you'll find most people find messing about in the dirt box is...well, downright freaky. Okay, boxers and fans alike use the words 'f4ggot' and 'gay' as a perjorative (now that's a big word meaning not nice) but that has little to do with the person they're calling that actually being homosexual; and I think everybody knows that. So if a boxer is gay true boxing fans will be more interested to know that their an excitng fighter that sells tickets & puts bums on seats and less interested what they do with bums in the privacy of their bedroom.
It has no place in the sport. Brigning in these personal politics runs counter to the tradition of the sport. If a boxer happens to be a gay man you can judge him but he will ultimately do what he wants, as the customer you will be left with either a good fight or a bad fight and that is what you should focus on because it is essentially the "product" that you pay for. Its a discussion for the realm of politics, but my advice would be to not be shocked when you are treated badly for brigning up gay sex in a traditionally masculine sub culture like the boxing world
To me, it doesn't matter. I don't judge a person for being homosexual in every day life, and I certainly don't in sports. Whatever someone's sexuality is is their own business. Just because I'm not homosexual doesn't mean I have any right to shun someone who is. I respect anyone who is brave enough to come out, especially on a world wide stage like in sports. It's possible that there may be homosexual boxers in the world today, but I don't know, nor do I care. All I care about is what they can do in the ring and the manner in which they conduct themselves. Miguel Cotto is my favorite boxer. If he were to come out as a homosexual, I wouldn't care one bit. He'd still be my favorite. I'm not prejudice to any sexuality, race, color or creed. People are people, and everyone deserves a fair chance and not to be judged.

Even thought I do not agree with that lifestyle, I do accept that it is a choice people are free to make. Unlike many, I don't support my favorite boxers based on personality or lifestyle -- I support the demonstration of their talents and skills in the ring .... After the fight is over, I could care less what boxer's do with themselves or anyone else.

i don't want to know if someone is gay or not. Let them keep it to themselves. They don't need to shove it in everyones ****ing face that they are gay. no one would hate on them if somebody found out. but keep it out of boxing. Just like how i don't care if Pacquiao cheats on his wife or whatever, thats his business. I'm sick of homosexuality being brought up as some big issue. I don't give a **** about it, this is boxing.
True. There are some homosexuals who are just really out there, but in society you have disrespectful people and azzholes in general. Like Floyd.
Exactly. We have straight azzholes and straight people who are obnoxious and annoying and whatnot so it is not a characteristic of just one group.
I would respect homosexual athletes as long as they respect the sport and the fans and don't cross the line.
