who do u think lederman is biased towards?
merchant's JOB is to take an aggressive, adversarial stance when interviewing - it generates the best responses. merchant and floyd have more in common than most people think. . . he has made some despicable comments, but i can't imagine HBO boxing without him.
he's biased against reality.
I wouldn't say any of them don't know anything about boxing, just because they've never boxed. That's pretty retarded logic, if you ask me.
But one thing is certainly clear about all of them ; They're all biased nuthuggers.
Merchant and Lampley's track record of nuthugging is well documented. Just listen to the commentary on any single Pacquiao fight. Or Lampley during any Jermain Taylor fight, or last night nuthugging every time Victor Ortiz even opened up. (Regardless of if he landed or not.)
HBO crew is by far the best currently commentating for boxing.
Showtime's announcers are ****ing horrible. Tarver is the only saving grace they have. If a fight is absolutely ****ing horrible, they will still talk it up as some brilliant chess match. Atleast HBO commentators will say when a fight just plain sucks (Looking at you Alexander vs Bradley).
ESPN...Teddy Atlas...nuff said.
So you think the commentators are doing boxing a favor by making people want to change the channel during fights they think are boring?
C'mon, man.

Tarver is always on point I agree...

I think Harold Lederman isn't the best judge-sometimes I have no idea which fight he's watching. That said, his daughter, Julie, is maybe the best judge active right now. Jim Lampley's dope, always centers the discussion and is objective-the way an announcer should be. Larry Merchant is almost comic relief to me-only it's not funny to listen to a semi-legible, biased, quite possibly, drunken man speak on our sport. I prefer actual fight analysis but, it's just my preference. If he were replaced with Teddy Atlas and or Max Kellerman or Antonio Tarver permanently I'd be happy about it.
What? Lampley's one of the best announcers in any sport.
Lampley tends to exaggerate and go over the top according to what HBO wants hyping up
That's exactly what an announcers job is. Shout, get excited, and exaggerate to make the fight more exciting to the people watching.
They're NOT analysts, they're commentators.
