Manny Pacquiao will have a very hard time beating Floyd Mayweather Jr and the words of Freddie Roach ring truer than ever when he says that Manny must fight a "perfect fight" to win.
After watching rounds 2, 3 , 4 .. it was apparent that Floyd had Victors timing and movement more or less worked out. Rounds 5-6 onwards would have gotten ugly.
From round 2 onwards Floyd was catching Victor comming in with short right hands/right hooks and timing them perfectly. Everytime Victor got too close Floyd shells up or clinches. Very smart.
Rounds 3 and 4 were amazing. Floyd switched it up. He started catching Victor with a left hook every time he came in in round 3 and one right hand when Victor came in which knocked Victor off balance ( Vic was throwing a straight left to aid him being off balance after being countered ). i.e used a different tool to execute the same strategy. Very smart indeed.
At the end of Round 3 and during round 4 Floyd started working the rear uppercut as Victor came in. Dude is insanely crafty always switching up his attacks and keeping his opponents pre occupied with one attack whilst effectivley connecting with another and effectivly mixing and matching them up!
He did this over and over again. I will make GIFs later on today if i get time.
Manny would need elusive ways to get close to Floyd, alot more head movement and Manny definatly needs to drop his shooting in style. It simply will not work against Floyd at all. Floyds TIMING and HANDSPEED are absolutley DANGEROUS to Manny.
Manny would need to avoid being tee'd off on by Floyd from a distance and must stop getting hit comming in. If he can do that, he has the power and the speed to give Floyd a lot of problems.
Manny is in there with a shot, but Floyd is a very smart fighter, in all honesty it probably wont be very good for Manny. Floyd controls the variables too well ( distance, timing, positioning , etc )
I will hopefully add GIFs later on today and bump this thread to show what im talking about.
Keep it real boxing fans!
The object of the thread was to illustrate the fact that Floyds timing is impeccable and that a fighter like Ortiz who doesnt have much head movement when comming in, very much like manny doesnt have head movement comming in, will get tagged by Floyds right hand or left hook.
pac has really good head movement when he wants to.
watch pac vs odh
exactly...it's absurd how these people can calculate pac's chances by watching the floyd-ortiz fight.

And none of the fighters floyd fought are on the same offensive level as pac, which is why Floyd vs pac is such an interesting fight to watch.
Mayweather TKO11.
Not Floyd - and none of those fighters Manny fight are on the same defensive planet. Universe. At all. Bad comparison.

Still when u come forward /walk down your opponent you put yourself in a situation to get hit and hurt. Floyd may be a defensive wizard but when he thinks offensively especially against pac (who is arguably one of the best offensive fighters in the game) he is putting himself in a situation where he can get tagged and hurt. Floyd's best bet is to stand his ground let pac jump in and then counter. if you try to walk down pac you can't expect not to get hurt.

Yeah that's usually because they don't know how to be defensive and come forward. Or they suck defensively, period.

Who compared Pacquiao to Ortiz? I'm more confident in Mayweather's chances because he's still very sharp, and Manny's slipping in my opinion. Of course both aren't in their physical prime, but only one of them has the attributes to continue to fight at this level.
Usually when fighters try to come forward against pac/bully him they get stopped or severely beaten. I thought fighters who come forward against pac are tailor made for him..

It's funny how ppl are taking this fight an compairing it to if mayweather where to fight Manny, just cause ortiz hit him with sum good punches, did ppl forget we seen a style from floyd that I havent seen since the gotti fight? He was way more aggressive and put together some great combos. Ppl tend to forget that Floyd fights his fight and adjust to whatever his opponet does. So compairing how he fought vs ortiz is really making ppl look stupid.
Pacquiao would have a tough, tough time man. I can see Mayweather backing him up and taking the fight to close quarters where Pacquiao would be clueless. Quite frankly - especially after seeing how Manny struggled with Mosley's movement - I would give him only a puncher's chance.

I'm sorry but there is no comparison between Ortiz and Pacquiao aside from them both being southpaws.

Yea, you know where I stand with this.

That's how I see it, and as time passes by (You may not agree) Pacquiao's chances decrease.
I honestly think Mayweather lost a step between the Mosley fight and the Ortiz fight. I'm giving Pacquiao more of a chance now than I did before because I think there are more openings in Mayweather's defense now compared to even the Mosley fight. Especially with right hooks over the shoulder, not leads but ones that come mid combo, the kind of punch that Pacquiao knocked Cotto down with and Mayweather was getting tagged at times with lead lefts, his reflexes might not be as good as they used to be, which is to be expected.
Still though, his skill level is on a very, very high level which still makes him one of the best in the world today and still a very, very hard guy to beat.
mayweather is on that clock, that "im over 30 and i used to be a featherweight" clock. thus i feel he could get old at anytime. any night.

Agree completely but think Manny would get energy from the fact floyd shows him no respect and the crowd will cheer loud for anything he does. I can see an ODH like fight, alot of hype, floyd dominate with his skill and reach.

he doesnt have a jab and that alone will be his failure.
He does have a jab I get what you mean he doesn't use it to set up punches as much as some fighters, but still Pacquiao very likely could beat Mayweather. People here can argue all they want but at the end we will only know if they fight.
I told you in the other thread, I didn't explain how but I said what attributes Pacquiao has that would allow him to beat Mayweather.
