I know the trollers on here are loving this time but I don't care for stupid sh1t like that. Putting my dislike for Floyd aside I'm going to tell you what really happened.
Three things happened that were wrong.
First one was the headbutt by Ortiz, it was a clear foul and you could see the kid was frustrated by Floyd's defense.
Second was the sucker punch that Floyd hit Ortiz with. Legal technically but it was clearly a cheap shot that ended what could have been an entertaining fight.
Third was Joe Cortez job of the fight. He should have ushered the fighters to a neutral corner, then started the clock and then initiated the fight once again. Instead he allowed the fighters to wander in the middle of the ring and let Floyd sucker punch Ortiz.
The biggest problem I have in all of this, is that if Ortiz came towards Floyd with his hands down and Floyd was ready to fight and Floyd hit him then and KO'd him, then I would say it was Ortiz' fault. What happened though was Floyd came at him with his hands down as if to accept the apology and if you watch the replay closely, waited the second they separated from the hug and hit him with a left hook and then hit him with a right hand when Ortiz was looking at the ref like "wtf ref?"
Sorry but I can't call this a win for Floyd. He would have won anyway because I feel he was outclassing Ortiz but Floyd showed the person he REALLY is. His yelling of his father on tv, him insulting Larry Merchant and then hitting after the break like he did vs Shane, Arturo and now Ortiz shows that Floyd has no respect for anything.
Floyd is the greatest fighter I have seen in my life time and I have seen Leonard, Duran and Chavez Sr but Floyd the person has no worth. I feel sorry for all you that look up to him. Where have all the real men gone?
One would think boxers who have championship belts and plenty of experience would know to put their guard up and protect themselves when the referee resumes a fight after a foul (in ortiz's case) or not look away from the fight to complain to the ref without the ref ever stopping the action (gatti's case). You take your eyes off your opponent your gonna get smoked out every time and deservedly so.
I'm sick of fighters wasting the fans time by overdoing their hands shakes, hugs etc. They had touched gloves twice already and Cortez resumed the fight why is Ortiz still apologizing and trying to hug Floyd anyway, this isn't sparring, it's time to fight not hug, especially after perpetrating an obvious intentional foul on your opponent. How did Vic not see that coming Floyd practically had smoke coming out of his ears after the headbutt he shoulda known what time it was...
Ortiz did not want to be in the ring with Floyd anymore, I'm 100% convinced of this. When he headbutted Floyd, and then was walked around the ring with Cortez, I think he was so ****ing embarassed that he just gave up right there. I think Floyd possibly felt that Ortiz was gonna just keep trying this bull**** for the rest of the fight, and headbutts aren't something you **** around with, that **** can seriously injure a fighter.. Floyd's too smart for Ortiz, plain and simple.
im not so sure if your assessment of the situation is correct. if you watch the fight, floyd had his gloves down because he was expecting them to touch gloves. if u watch the replay you will clearly see that after they touch gloves, floyd immediately gets his hands up and is on guard. he waits momentarily for ortiz but for some reason, instead of fighting, ortiz goes for a hug. even when he was hugging mayweather, floyd did not punch him. after the hug, ortiz should have had his guard up immediately. instead he stands there, backs off a little and leaves his hands down. thats when floyd hits him. he gave ortiz time to get his guard up but ortiz stood there like an idiot and got knocked out instead.
go watch the replay, u will see what i mean, mayweather did not punch him as he came in to touch gloves. mayweather had his hands down, they touched gloves then floyd got his guard up immediately since thats how you're supposed to fight. ortiz goes for a hug even though he can clearly see floyd has his hands up already. if you see a guys hands up, he's clearly ready to fight so take a hint and get your guard up. dont go wasting time on another hug. even when he was hugging mayweather, floyd did not try to punch him. he only punched him after the hug was over and he gave ortiz about a second to get his guard up. dude decided to stand there with his guard down instead so he got knocked out. that's what happens when you're not ready to fight.
floyd clearly told him that he was ready to fight after they touched gloves and he put his guard up. there are a few angles of this incident, find the camera that is facing floyd and you can clearly see what I mean. floyd only threw the punches after he let ortiz know he's ready to fight after they touched gloves.
also in response to your comment "waited the second they separated from the hug and hit him with a left hook and then hit him with a right hand when Ortiz was looking at the ref like "wtf ref?""
at that moment instead of looking at the ref, ortiz should get his damn hands up. dude kept his hands down the whole time, what the hell did you expect to happen. after floyd gets his hands up to show he's ready to fight, you go and hug him. then you leave your hands down and get punched in the face. even after all that you dont learn your lesson and still keep your hands down. even IF floyd was wrong (im not saying he is) for punching him, don't look at the ref, get your damn hands up and worry about the ref after. any boxer knows that, what the hell are you looking at the ref for?
Third was Joe Cortez job of the fight. He should have ushered the fighters to a neutral corner, then started the clock and then initiated the fight once again. Instead he allowed the fighters to wander in the middle of the ring and let Floyd sucker punch Ortiz.
This is all that needed to be said. Cortez ****ed up a good night of main event boxing.
Ortiz : 2 Attempted Headbutts
FLoyd : 2 Sucker Punches
Seems fair to me.
How many times have we seen a headbutt sway the whole fight & it was ****ing intentional....so i have 0 sympathy.
Don't forget the elbows...

look up to him???is this a childrens forum??
This is the whole point. He did an acting job and sucker punched him. It was disgusting and basically a reflection of these kids above who posted. The real men in this world are gone man....
You basically answered your own question. The men are gone, the forum is full of kids, or fans of a particular fighter. Their love of a fighter hold precedence over the integrity of the sport and common sense.

Those were the problems.
Ortiz started it, Córtez should've probably kept the fighters apart before being absolutely sure about "time in", and Floyd, well...it's hard to classify that as one of his defining wins. He probably would've beaten Ortiz regardless, but it's such a shame ended so EARLY...and ESPECIALLY like THAT.
People are going to be trying to knock Floyd's block off even more. Forget about touching gloves with Floyd anymore...keep your guard up at all times.
The bottom like is that Cortez is a dirty referee.
Joe Cortez had absolutely no idea what had happened when he turned his head to find Victor on the canvas. For all he knew, Floyd could have kicked him in the nuts. He counted him out anyway.
This is blatant bias by a judge that may or may not have been paid off. Please do note that he did exactly the same thing this fight as in the Hatton fight; breaking up perfectly legitimate infighting scenarios.
Are you serious man? You're really going to try to debate with me something that's on video?
Let's go (hand signaling) = Ok guys fight. Same thing. If you've ever watched a Cortez fight, you would know this.
Mayweather and Ortiz touched gloves for the 3rd time after Cortez said "fight". Regardless if Cortez wasn't looking or not, it's game on. Come on man.
I agree that Floyd was in the right to engage, because Cortez said Lets Go, and brought them to the middle.
All I'm saying is, Cortez made it confusing by then turning to the time keepers and asking if they're ready, as if he hadn't started the action. He lost control of the action, and it was obvious that Ortiz thought that time hadn't been started yet.
Cortez should have kept the fighters in their corners, checked that the time keeper was ready, THEN instruct them to begin fighting again.
Floyd is in the right, but Cortex ****ed it up big time.
Cheap shot? I'm glad he popped him. He already tried to apologize and hug in the corner. No need to keep doing it. Ortiz was going to get stopped and was looking for a way out and he found it. Simple as that. Again, I'm GLAD Floyd popped him in the mouth twice. Protect yourself at ALL times. ALL times. End of. And I don't care about anyone else's opinion either.
If that were Manny, they probably would have hugged and hit gloves the whole rest of the fight. I'm glad Floyd went there.
Vic tried to get gangsta and he found out floyd can oblige him. Fight , really whole card, felt kinda wierd. Floyd looking at schaffer in the merchant interview, cortez back turned, even the headbutt was wierd. I felt like I should get more for my dollaz, but its no way floyd did anything wrong.
Here's a few words of advice.
Next time you make an ignorant post, go back and watch the fight first.
After the headbutt, Mayweather and Ortiz touched gloves 3 times. Cortez separated both fighters and took a point from Ortiz. Cortez then said "ok guys, fight". This was when they touched gloves a third time. Then FMJ KHTFO!!!
I could see if I was subjectively making this up. But when it's all on tape, that's when you as a poster need to stop and see what happen without being blinded by hate.
He never said "ok guys fight".
He muttered "Let's Go" while making hand motions for them to come to the middle.
Then he turned to the time keepers and asked "Ya'll ready?", as if he was asking them if they were ready for him to start time. Before he even turns back to the fighters, Floyd punches Ortiz.
Cortez ****ed up big time. Should probably check if the time keepers are ready BEFORE you allow the fighters to leave the corners. Cortez lost complete control of the action in the ring.

It's called a payoff...they worked out something before the fight. They'll do a rematch and extract another 60 bucks from people's pockets in about 6 months. Even Garcia had a big old grin on his face....no complaints from anyone...lmao..WWE anyone?

Shut the f*ck up.
The incident was already squashed in 2 seconds. No need for hugging and talking about it over some tea.
Fukk that sh*t. B*tch, it's a fight.
Just wanted to point out this is the 1st time I ever agreed with wazaa.
That was a ***** move by victor. He hugged him kissed him ang touched up his gloves yet he still tries to get another hug.
Plus the man lied and said may's head just came down too fast. Does he not realize there are replays?
Ortiz should have been dq'ed.
No discussion needed. The man lowered his body and shot his head up like an uppercut. It wasn't an accident. He was being outclassed and got dirty.
Floyd was outclassing him all night. Victor was frustrated. Sucks for the sport but it is what it is. Time was called in, one man wasn't ready to fight. After delivering that bs headbutt he should of been ready.
Maybe the dirtiest headbutt attempt in a decade and no one wants to call out victor......WHAT THE F WAS HE THINKING.
Last issue is with the hbo team. Victor started to apologize on tv after the fight and that jackass merchant interupts with...."you have nothing to be apologetic about."
Are you ****ing serious? He should be sorry because if he didn't get dirty this would not have happened.
How many times are they supposed to hug it out? That last attempt was the 3rd time the touched each other after the incident.
Bottom line is floyd schooled the kid. The kid tried to get dirty with a veteran fighter and came out on the short end. It's like trying to out trick bernard. This was Victor's fault.
Floyd could of waited for victor to say ok I'm ready, but why should he after that CHEAP ASS headbutt.
Plus some of you jokers are the same guys that call out bradley for his head.
Kling-on head never threw a blatant shot like that headbutt from ortiz
It doesn't really matter tho..if you watch your boxing and know about the sport and if you watched the fight you will see that ortiz had no chance of winning..he made himself a favor by not getting up because he was getting smashed..look at his eye..if the fight was more competitive and floyd did it then I would say damn why floyd?? But ortiz was losing and he looked like he didn't take the fight serious when he saw how fast floyd was and when the shots started to land he thought fukk it..i got my pay check I don't care about the outcome.
Ortiz would get way more sympathy if he got popped while apologizing from a bad accidental headbutt, but naw he did a cheap illegal shot on Mayweather, and cut his mouth open
I bet it Mayweather had did the same thing to Zab and KOed him after his foul most people would laughed it off
But Ortiz was seen as a good nice guy so everyone is all distraught over what happened
