Should this win put him back at #2 or will it be a lower ranking? When he fell off the list the first time, he came against the generally considered #2 ranked JMM. This time it's against Ortiz who I don't think is in the top 10 on any list I've seen.
Thoughts?
no when Mosley was
1-lineal ww champion
2-p4p#3
3-wba champion
4-the man at ww
1- I don't believe he was the lineal, definately not the Ring champ at the time, lots of debate because of the little love triangle going on between him, marg and Cotto. In most books, he was the #1 ranked for lineal, but not the champ. His last two fights @ ww before floyd, he went 1-1
2 - true but highly inactive to stay up that high
3 - almost lost it due to inactivity
4 - so we thought
Well, If he beats a younger lion in his prime like Ortiz, then HELL YEAH. He will be number 1 and the ball would be on the court for Manny to top Mayweather's win.
floyds campaining at ww...i didnt see an active manny jump up and fight martinez ..did you????after Ortiz i'd love to see him go to not 154..but 160 and fight Martinez for the Lineal middle weight title
your missing the point. no pac didnt fight martinez. i said pacs win over cotto is better than any welterweight win mayweather has.
.
so are we gonna ignore floyd was retired for 21 months and only fought a lightweight 8 months before mosley??
No, but you can't ignore the layoff and act like Mosley had knocked out Margarito a few months earlier. Personally I don't think there's much difference between the Cotto and Mosley wins. There are ways to criticize both, but ultimately both are very good wins.
does mayweather claim to fight the best? has mayweather fought at 154 before?

you told me mayweather couldnt possibly fight martinez now because of mayweathers 16 month layoff. so tell me, how many months did mosley go inactive before the mayweather fight?
cotto also has a win over mosley.
Cotto was coming off beating Clottey. You can't just ignore a 16 month layoff for Mosley, especially how so many won't shut up about the same layoff for Mayweather.

Is Martinez at ww????
Cotto-had just lost to Margo and was given a vacant belt against-fukking Jennings
Mosley-was coming off 1 of the best wins of his career

i dont think so. pacquiao vs cotto was a true 50/50 fight going in. the only problem i had with that fight was 145lb BS. but even so, thats better than mayweathers win over mosley imo. mosley was close to 40 when mayweather beat him.

When he fought him...at the twilight of his career, after a 16 month lay-off and back to back training camps. He gets credit for that fight, however, lets not get stupid, that was an old, shop-worn to hell version of Mosley who was a year and a half past one last glorious ride.

not really, floyds mosley win was better considering "WHEN" he fought him

Considering how he looked in that fight, and his next two...I'd have to say Berto should have been able to get him outta there if he didn't drop out, Shane was ripe for the picking, Floyd just got to him first.
yeah but pacquiao tko'd cotto. imo thats a better win than any welterweight win mayweather has.

how do you justify mayweather going to number 2 when he beats ortiz? ortiz isnt even top ten. and if you look at todays welterweights, it isnt a hot division like it used to be.
skills wise we all know mayweather is right up there, probably the best, but a win over ortiz doesnt prove much imo.
cause floyd was #2 and only droppd due to inactivity..........
