MANILA, Philippines – Filipino boxing icon and pound-for-pound king Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao has announced that he is already thinking of hanging up his boxing gloves, perhaps as soon as 2013.
But the 8-division world champion first wants to find a young boxer who can carry the torch once he retires.
In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Pacquiao said that he can announce his retirement anytime.
"No problem to me if I'm gonna retire. The problem is, who else can be Manny Pacquiao?"" he said.
Pacquiao is one of the few boxers who enjoys global popularity, and his last few pay-per-view fights have all generated over 1-million buys.
"You know we love boxing, and I love boxing. When the time comes that I retire, I want somebody holding the torch for boxing, to continue the boxing career after me," Pacquiao said.
He adds that it doesn't matter if the boxer is not a Filipino.
"It doesn't matter as long as there is one fighter, one boxer who can be idolized by all the fans," Pacquiao said.
One boxer who may have the potential to carry on the torch is the 24-year-old WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz, who will face Floyd Mayweather Jr. on September 17 in Las Vegas.
"Ortiz, he has big potential. He's strong enough, he has a style in boxing. What he needs is focus on his speed, develop his speed," Pacquiao said.

Donaire has all the potential of following the success of Pacman, such as winning titles in different weight divisions. just give him time say 2-3 years from now.
Donaire is nearly 29 in another 2-3 years he could very possibly be past his prime or atleast firmly on the slide.
Personally I think 135lbs will be heaviest weight class Donaire could fight at and still be effective and it wouldn’t surprise me if 135 is slightly to much, I would say he is in his prime right now at 118.

Its not Mannys torch to pass on and no I’m not a “flomo” ffs I know this is the internet but people need to grow up all this “pactard” and “flomo” crap is just idiotic and infantile.
Can’t we have a sub section in the forums dedicated to these nut huggers so the real boxing fans can talk boxing in peace.
Boxing is far bigger than Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather.
this is the gayest and most retarded sh1t ive ever read.are you a grown man talking like this?
stfu larry u dont like this because you know floyd will be remembered as the good boxer that talked **** on 24 7. pacs career is on another level and will be remebered through generations. like i said dont hate on the truth. pac is on another level to floyd.
and quote this so you all know the truth.
lol at the pac hate.
fact is, pac is the greatest of this generation and will go down the greater fighter than floyd. is this even being disputed?
none of your flomo bullshiiiting's gonna change that so deal with it
I just hope Rios gets better. He could be like manny or floyd. Donaire is good too but I think he's too small so he can be the best at lighter weights. But who knows? Everyone thought MP is too small too until...
