Margarito > Cotto > Clottey > Mosley
Margarito tried to win and hurt Pac
Cotto win some round
Clottey stayed on his ground and attack but hidden in his shell
Mosley ran all the way to survive the 12 round
Cotto fought him closest, for the first few rounds atleast, and frustrated him for the last few when he got on his bike. Margarito gave him the worst beating and landed the most punches on him, actually more than Marquez landed in either of his fights with Pac. Logically it shouldn't be any surprise, they were the best and most accomplished welters of the past 5-6 years.
For me it's between Cotto and Margarito.
Cotto was able to have success early and was in the fight until after the 5th round. He did land some good shots on Pacquiao but as the fight progressed he was beaten to a bloody swollen mess.
Margarito was never really in the fight but he was able to clearly hurt Pacquiao midway through the fight and landed shots here and there throughout, his face was also beaten to a bloody swollen mess, worse than Cotto's imo.
Mosley didn't take alot of damage but he didn't throw alot and seemed content with going the distance rather than winning.
How anyone can pick Clottey is beyond me.
He may have took the least punishment but he rarely threw anything. He preferred to hide behind his shell defense and go 12 rounds without even trying to win a round, he didn't win a round actually.
At least Cotto/Margarito were able to take a couple of rounds and actually test Pacquiao and most of all, tried to win.
yeah, clottey and mosley not getting whooped means they did well to some people.
that doesn't make any sense to me either. my vote goes to margarito. He tried to win even with the massive damage he has taken and actually hurt pacquiao
very well said...
for me, i got marg for his valiant stand on a very one-sided fight...
also, he hurt pac real good with the body shots...very few times, though
I just re watched Pacquiao vs Margarito and my vote now goes to Margarito.
He got beat up every round but he fought his ass off every round, was able to hurt Pacquiao with body shots in the 6th and overall throughout the fight, was able to land more shots on Pacquiao than any of the other fighters in the poll.
He made Pacquiao fight hard every round where Cotto resorted to alot of movement after the 6th round of their fight, trying to get away from the punishment.
clottey could have done better if he threw more punches. he did gave pac more damage as seen on pac's face while throwing less punches.
clottey would have gotten his ass kicked if he threw more.

Never really hurt?? I think you need to closely rewatch that fight
...let's reword that to 'stunned' or in danger of being knocked out (other than what I mentioned). Whereas Cotto got dropped then ran, Clottey fought even less than he had before and Mosley, got dropped and did his best Cotto impression. I'm sorry, I'm not big on Margarito, never was, but that's just what I believe, he's the only guy as of recently that actually fought Manny, that's all I'm saying. And even though you might not like him, he actually fought, he tried, isn't that what we pay fighters to do? (yes, in the end WE pay them) :boxing:
Clottey and Mosley did nothing against Pacquiao. People even mentioning them are simply wrong. They were never at any moment in any position of actually threatening Pacquiao in any way.
Cotto did good for 4 rounds, and won 2. But he ran afterwards. Pacquiao had target practice for 8 rounds with little resistance.
Margarito is the only one that made Pacquiao work for 12 rounds, and he came closest to actually winning. That body shot by itself was more than the other three combined did towards winning, never mind he actually landed the most punches any Pacquiao opponent has since Marquez, I believe. He may have landed more, I don't remember the punch stats.
Toss-up between Cotto and Clottey.
Cotto showed he could hang and have success, at least before he folded. Still he put effort forth for at least 4 rounds.
Clottey didn't bother with trying to win the fight, but at the same time his defense kept him from getting hit clean and he seemed to land 80% of the punches he wasn't scared to throw.
I have no idea how anyone could make an argument for Margarito. He did hurt Manny to the body once, but was too slow and plodding to follow up. Take that moment in and, essentially, he got pummeled for 11.5 rounds.
Mosley showed you that turning him Manny and boxing him at angles would be effective, but, again, he didn't put the effort into actually throwing punches and trying to win the fight.

dude had to have an eye surgery after the fight it was just a brutal and senseless beating I can't believe the doctor or ref didn't stop that fight
IMO, performance wise Cotto even though he fell short. Cotto showed promise and it's a fight you can look at and say that with a few adjustments on Cottos part - it would have been a competitive and close fight.
Margarito put on the most valiant and brave performance, he didn't have the skills to match Pacquiao but his heart was huge that night and he tried till the very last second. True showcase of desire and will. I earned a lot of respect for Margarito on that fight.
^^^Margarito. Interestingly enough, he was believed to be least deserving, yet put up the most valiant effort since Marquez. Aside from a body shot in the 4th and a check right late in the fight, he was never really hurt either. What hurt him most, was the uppercut in the 4th (the one he thumbs at after being hit) that either broke his orbital bone right then or began the process. Side note....Manny needs to work the body more, instead of head hunting with his left, he should jab to the head every now and then and send the left directly as his opponents body. With as much force as he carries, he could start getting those TKOs he's been looking for late in his fights.
Clottey with out of doubt seem he was hitting pac flush every time he decided to throw a punch Mosley made pacquiao look the worst imo and to some extent took away that "Pacquiao is unbeatable " mindset some boxing fans had.
Cotto had his moments early and Margarito did the worst outside of that one body punch
lmao ppl saying clottey didnt take any damage, thats really amatuer analysis.
just cus his face was hardly marked doesnt mean he wasnt hit anywhere else?
anyone forget how many shots he took to the body, the guy was probably pi$$ing blood for the next month or two after that fight.
wonder why clottey hasnt fought since then?
Clottey. He took the lest amount of Damge & wasn't beaten to a pulp like Cotto & Margarito. Followed by Mosley who actually made Pacman look silly being unable to cut off the ring & all.
