Theres a lot Mauy Thai and Kickboxers who transition to MMA like Anderson Silva.........Watching Mixed Stances and punches that setup kicks look bad to a Boxing purists....
its not the stances or the kicks.....
excuses excuses...
its the fact that even the top ranked guys cant box above theclub fighter level at best...
with the exception of silva....
ive done muy tai in tai land and the clinching with the elbows is nullified buy uppercuts on the inside...
and ive doe traditional martial arts too...
they are skilled for sure...
but not in the sweet science....
Dibella is turning gay I think, praising mma and insinuating boxing is in trouble. He must be a gay liar then. He is not a true boxing fan.
good post voted up
boxing still grabs a piece of headlines here in the main papers... ufc/mma are usually in those novelty papers with amatuer journos. that being said, if boxing was dying.. kltchko/haye wouldve bombed.. well the fight did, but 40k+ people in a outdoor stadium is epic in any combat sport
well are u ethinic? :)
cause acording to dana that would explain why you dont see that boxing is dying :)
My parents are from Ireland and my dad's whole side of the family is very big into Boxing. Boxing is pretty big in the Irish community although we dont really have any good pro fighters there are a lot of amateur fighters. Andy Lee is probably the best fighter we have today I met him a couple times and hope he pulls out the w against Vera. Matthew Macklin aint bad either. McCloskey aint good but Jamie Kavanagh looks like he has a pretty bright future. Ireland is real small though less than 4 million.
I like how they got sort of racist
"well maybe some different ethnicity youth like boxing "
just come out and say it, UFC fans are 99% screaming middle class white kids age 12-20
I live in Northwest Chicago in a white middle class area and just turned 22 and I honestly do not know anyone who is a big ufc fan and know very few casual ufc fans really. I know a few sports bars that show all their events though but whereas I only see Mayweather/Pacquiao/Cotto fights shown in Bars/Restaurants. Through my own perspective ufc/mma is not even in the top 6 of sports followed by my friends.
There will always be a demand for boxing. If not, it would have died much much earlier.
MMA is a fad and to me it has already peaked. They just spent a ton of money on the Fox deal and if that tanks (which it will), the sport will go back to being irrelevant.
if mma hasnt peaked it will....
i used to think it was the best untill i staerted watching and studying th classics and then i relly started to see the difference...
boxing just needs a good promoter to do some of the same things dana has done from a buisness stand point but it will never die....
for casual fans and hardcore fans allike and just sports fans in general...
there will neve be anything that can compare to the glamour andexcitement of an all time cham vs champ suprfight....
stop ducking may and take the test pac....
cant wait for 2012 :)
here is the dumbest thing about people saying boxing is dead/dying....
welter weights, ok welterwieghts(FMJ and pac) who are really blown up 130 pounders,,,,
can get 1.3 million buys PPV and all that attention....
there is obviously a demand for boxing.....
the only problem is boxing politics....
and considering how ****ed up boxing politics are....
it is still big....
also the thing about ethnic groups that dana said came of as kind of dumb...
this whole country is ethnic.

No its not..... Its Mixed Martial Arts...... Brawling is in both sports..... What happen to guys like that? They end on the ground sleeping....Ala PAul Williams
put paul williams in there with bj penn( one of the best boxers at 155) and paul would smoke him....
also the lower level guys in boxing are watch able...
but when i go to hdnet and watch Titan fc or whatever. they cant box for ****....
i give them credit were it is due, they are great wrestlers and graplers/jiujitsu fighters...
but the level of skill that they have when on there feat doesnt compare to ametuers....
maybe with the execpyion of anderson silva who is suck a crazy athelete he could do whatever he wants.
The last 4 PPV's for UFC have brought just at around 300k buys. Does that sound like a thriving sport? Sure that's decent but it's not killing it by any means.
It's way overmarketed. They spend so much on advertising that their fans think the sport is actually popular in real life.
I don't know what you guys are talking about bars being packed for a ufc event, then again I don't go to bars to watch men hug each other with a bunch of men around.
Dana White is bang on the money about the fat pig Arum.
Would boxing be in a bad state if someone like Dana White came in and closed up shop like they have done in UFC? Not for me, maybe some of the top stars wouldn't be as rich, but I would be a lot happier seeing good fights and it would stop these fake stars who are made in the marketing room from being born, you would have to get it the hard way by fighting the best and not playing the rankings game and ducking real fights.
Who in MMA do casual sports fan know?
As far as who the two top guys are popularity wise, it has to go to both Anderson Silva and GSP. What I've noticed in contrast to Boxing is the casual MMA fans go for the main event, but overall want to watch the UFC in general as where most casual Boxing fans do the same, want to watch the main event, but won't mind getting to the bar or a friend's house at 11pm to JUST watch the main event. What Boxing is attempting to do now is provide quality undercards to get more incentive to buy the PPV instead of waiting 6 weeks for a Tecate rebate, and honestly, they should've been doing this a while ago. But it comes down to money. People criticize Dana White's overall payout for fighters, which in most cases rivals even Kelly Pavlik's 1 fight contract, but look what he's doing to make the sport more accessible and marketable? And now the Fox deal? Obviously, he's doing something right, and the crazy thing is people think he's trying to compete with Boxing when in reality he's just building on his brand while Boxing's overall model in today's standards doesn't seem to be working considering it's level of popularity isn't close to where it used to be.
This may seem as if I'm bashing Boxing which is the complete opposite, but I can't just deny the fact that the UFC (which I also enjoy) are making moves for the future as where Boxing, though still filled with potentially great match ups, just isn't on the radar like it used to be, and it's not because of the UFC.
The fact of the matter is, love or hate the UFC, they're putting asses in seats and are consistently selling PPVs. I DJ Saturday Nights at this club / bar and they host all the UFCs. When I tell you that place is packed to the brim (also, 3:1 girls over guys ratio is normal at this spot), how can you deny that? In contrast, they hosted 1 Boxing PPV (Mayweather vs Mosley) and people were leaving around the 8th-9th round. Owner of the spot came to me sayin "This is the last Boxing PPV I order", and it has been since. Boxing fans who want to be on some Fight the Power type sh*t need to see things for what they are. I love Boxing and have followed it more than half my life, but let's be real, besides Mayweather and Pacquiao, who else is carrying the torch for Boxing? There was a time where there were several fighters who were not only widely known throughout Boxing, but in sports in general. You don't have even a fraction of that today in comparison to even the 90s where guys like Chavez, Whittaker, Tyson, Holyfield, Roy Jones were all household names and still are today. If you don't like MMA that's cool, I don't like Nascar. But I'm not going to sit and diss MMA because Im wishing Boxing had the same current level of popularity (which is what it really comes down to).
But yea....BOXING 4 LIFE!!! *GRRRRRRRRRRRRR...*
