Just re-watched Hopkins vs Pascal 2.
Magnificant performance by the legend Bernard Hopkins.
The push-ups before the 7th round was an epic and timeless moment.
But was it Bernard's last hoorah?
Upon closer observation as I was watching the fight for the 2nd time, I noticed a few subtle signs of slowing down from Bernard for the first time.
Pascal in these 2 fights hit Bernard as clean and hard as i have ever seen him hit before.
During the 4th round of the 2nd fight, Pascal caught Hopkins with a counter shot that prompted Kellerman and Steward to agree that it was the hardest shot Bernard has ever taken his whole career!
Again in the final round, Pascal connected with a shot that wobbled Bernard but was unable to capitalize on it much to the dismay of Kellerman and Steward who felt Pascal "let Hopkins off the hook."
The HBO analysts (and myself) agree Hopkins has never been that hurt before in his entire career.
Factor in the 2nd knockdown of the 1st fight and the question arises:
Did Bernard go "over-the-hill" with the Hopkins-Pascal Saga?
The Pascal fight showed Hopkins has a great chin when a power puncher lands flush. I wouldnt say he showed signs of being over the hill.
Dawson is a text book boxer and will be alot easier to read his shots and see them coming. Pascal is wild and for four rounds he is dangerous with punches coming in bunches with speed and power from all angles. Hopkins was bound to be tagged early but after that, it was a one sided fight. Pascal aleways starts like a train and finishes like a snail but Dawson will be steady all the way and I wouldnt be surprised if this is another landslide win for Hopkins. Dawsons style is made for him.
Dawson is far different from your typical text book boxer. For one Dawson has very fast and throws really nice combinations, and two he is a right-handed southpaw. If you think Hopkins can just easily read him and beat Dawson to the punch, then you are clearly underestimating Dawson. Hopkins at his age will have to fight a perfect fight to beat Dawson.
If Dawson does KO Hopkins, Dawson won't get credit for it.
People will say Hop was over the hill and Hop would've killed Dawson in his prime.
I don't know why any young fighter takes fights with Hopkins. If they lose, they're added to Hopkins skull collection. But if they win, Hopkins has the old man excuse.
Sorry if I come across as a hater, I've just never been a Hopkins fan. I'm not sure if it's his headbutts, low blows or excessive holding. The only time I rooted for him was against Trinidad and Tarver.
yea thats EXACTLY how you're coming across....but its cool....you have a right to like and hate who you want....its not a crime :lol1:

Dawson isn't bright enough to think about legacy and historians. I'm pretty sure he is the type who just started out for money and if you asked him about other fighters/fights from the past, he couldn't tell you a thing.
Like I said, it's just one fight, it's not career defining. One fight to get him the belt, and get the ball rolling. He can do that, or he can go after Tavoris Cloud or some other WBO/WBA Title holder that nobody ever heard of.
Dawson has been boxing since the age of 5, he is a very skilled boxer, he wouldn't be this good if he knew nothing about the sport or if he wasn't dedicated.
Hopkins is in his mid 40s. Even if he's still beating top guys at his weight he's not going to look flawless doing it. I don't think the Pascal fights showed any deterioration in him that we didn't already know was there. If anything, a wild opponent like Pascal might have made him look better than he really is at this stage. I don't think he'll beat Dawson.
B-Hop is one of my favorite fighter , but even i can see that his physical ability has declined. What makes him great at this stage is that he knows what he can and cannot do, and he knows how to pick his opponents.
Honestly, i don't see him getting past Dawson though.
I don't know what world you're living in, but in Dragonball Z the characters usually get STRONGER after each saga. Therefore B-Hop is now beastier....DUH!
Dawson isn't the guy you wanna bet on to be the first to KO Hopkins.
Dawson doesn't ko anybody, yet alone Hopkins.
His e-points are as good as mine dude, don't ruin this for me!
I think so.
Call me crazy, but I've predicted Dawson to stop Hopkins.
Pascal knocked Hopkins down 2-3 times and had him extremely hurt during their 2nd fight in the 12th round. Had Pascal pressed the attack, it would've been over.
You're not crazy. But pascal throws from weird angles with seriously bad intentions and he goes crazy during his spurts. Dawson will do things by the book and give hopkins a tactical match where he gets set too often and allows nard all the time in the world to devise a plan IMO.
Haha I'm low on points, I don't know if I can match you that department. But let me know how to bet points on here and I will gladly oblige.
You designate a number, any number of points you're willing to gamble. We put it in our sigs, something along the lines of
" 500 billion points that Dawson >>> Hopkins with Spiegelo "
And when Hopkins spanks Dawson all you gotta do is delete the signature so that nobody knows you doubted BHop making history once again, and then send me the points through vbplaza. And likewise if Hopkins loses I'll make good and pay you. I always follow through. And if you believe firmly enough that Dawson will KO BHop, I'll give you 4 to 1 odds. So if you bet all 500k and he does indeed pull it off, you receive 2mill on fight night (or shortly after as I will need a couple days to cry in my basement).
Dude he's been showing signs as far back as his fight with Carl Daniels. Of course he's going over the hill, but I still think he has 1 or 2 more great fights left. I'm putting points (and cash) on my man to continue spanking boxing's next generation.
post of the day :fing02:
