Why did Pacquiao fight Mosley?
Bob Arum & Roach had said that Floyd won over a old, shot Mosley, but then they pick him.
Why didn't he fight someone prime? With Pac being three suppose P4P king couldn't he have easily sold a ppv bout with Berto, Madiana, or Bradley? After all, all these guys have bigger followings than Joshua Clottey could ever dream if.
Or was it for money? I thought Pacquiao was the peoples champion and not money hungry like Mayweather?
Not sure what makes you think this, it isn't that he lost to Mayweather and Mora, it's the way he lost to them. He's had losses where he still looked okay and was still scratching and clawing, not this one. He looked very bad.
Berto has a lot of fight in him nowadays (and for the last year), more so than Mosley.
Wasn't the Mosley/Mora fight a draw?
Here are the rankings (those I found) in the WW division from different sources before the Pac/Mosley fight:
Boxing News Flash - 2/16/11
1) MP * 2)FMJ * 3)SM * 4)AB * 5)MC
ESPN - 3/19/11
1)FMJ * 2)MP * 3)VO * 4)SM * 5)AB
Bad Left Hook Weekly - 5/2/11
1)MP * 2)SM * 3)VO * 4) AB
Ring Magazine - 4/20/11
1)MP * 2)FMJ * 3)VO * 4)SM
*FMJ was taken out of the list just before the Pac/Mosley fight (5/7/11).
Mosley is a monster puncher, Berto not so much.
Berto spent half the fight against Ortiz resting on the ropes telling Ortiz to punch him.
Berto had a bad start, fought well in patches, but he has stamina issue and Ortiz wanted it more that him. Couldn't deal with Ortiz's pressure and didn't have the power to deter Ortiz.
Now we seen Ortiz will broken before and seen that Maidan has the power to take the fight out of him.
If Mosley signed to fight Berto get your money on Sugar Shane.

It seems almost certain already that on November 14 of this year, pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao will face Puerto Rican superstar Miguel Cotto in a bout that has Fight of the Year contender written all over it.

And like I said when Pacquiao vs Cotto was more or less signed Mosley said he was willing to come to 140lbs
THE RING’s No. 1-rated 147 pounder issued a statement Friday saying he’d meet Pacquiao at 140 pounds even though he hasn’t fought at lighter than 146 since 1999. Mosley has never fought in the 140-pound division.

Roach said not too long ago that he was interested in Manny facing Mosley, but that Shane would have to come down to meet Pacquiao at a catch weight of 143, and according to Roach, Mosley was having none of it at the time and declined to take the fight.
Now, it looks as if Mosley has changed his tune and is agreeable to take the fight, but the question is whether Pacquiao is interested in taking the fight. This would be a very tough fight for Pacquiao to take, because he would likely not be able to knock the tough-chinned Mosley out.
Mosley first declined Roach's offer, and only became interested again once Cotto became an option.
Maybe he was playing hardball, but he did say no when Roach offered him 143lb.
to earn lots of money....thats what prizefighters do
Once again!!!! You are about the 60th right person today.
Atlest you're not trying to pretend that ......
Mosley was the highest rank
champion,
most demanded fight with Pacquiao
Like D4thincarnation
STFU, cuz' you and Reloaded are not much better than D4thincarnation.
How the fuck are you going to have me on ignore and still quote me.
GTFOH :lol1:
Find a fact I argue against big mouth , opinions are just that and a big smoke like you should know the difference !
It wasn't after Cotto signed up...
The fight was still in question, the negotiations had stalled. Stop trying to re-write history. Just STFU.
hey. boxrec and boxingscene archive searches will only get you so far.
:joke::joke:
That was before the Hatton fight, he said that to Mosley.
After Hatton, Roach said Pacquiao was willing to go up to welter but it would be a catchweight against Cotto or Mosley. He offered 143/144lbs and Cotto negotiated it up to 145lbs.
Mosley said no straight away, then when Cotto signed up, he said he was willing to fight at 140lbs.
We do know that Mosley put an offer in writting to fight Mayweather that year and Mayweather chose to fight Marquez instead.
What you are saying here could literally not be further from the truth.
I don't even like the guy, but I have to agree with him. This is actually what happen.

Jro is right.
Jro normally sticks up for Pacquiao but he always tells it like it is. We are all saying (even other Pacquiao fans) that it was a money fight, simple as that.
But dude is trying to turn it into Mosley being the highest payday, highest ranked, biggest threat, and even that Mosley was ducking Pacquiao.

Now it's you that have missed something.
WELTERWEIGHT
Current Lineal Champion: None; title vacated 06/06/2008
Last Lineal Champion: Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Easily done eh.
No it's still you that have missed something.
Look at the date of that article.
Look at the source of that article.
Is it clicking?
Not so easily done eh.
no, roach wanted shane to fight at 142 if i remember it correctly.
cotto, the young strong fighter who came from a massacre against margarito and looked like **** against clottey?
I was complaining. I felt Mosley was a much bigger threat in theory and i guess roach agreed with me.

Shane put in an official offer to fight Mayweather after Marg, Mayweather turned it down.
Roach offer Mosley the same deal as Cotto, Mosley turned it down.
That was the only time Pacquiao could have fought Mosley, Cotto was young strong fighter, so Pacquiao when for him.
I don't remember anyone complaining that Pacquiao chose to fight Cotto over Mosley, and Mosley turned down the chace to fight Pacquiao.
Bullshit, don't you come in here and spread fucking lies. Like if we all just new to the sport like you.
Like really you think you can say just whatever and mofo's are not going to know better?
Mosley begged for a fight with Pac.
What did happen was that Mosley said if you fought Oscar at 147, why can't you fight me at 147? Which Roach responded with you're not Oscar, you're too good.
There was nothing, wrong with them choosing Cotto. And, Pac deserves much credit for not only the win but they way he won.
However, lets not ignore that Mosley begged for the fight, even said that he would fight Pac at a catch-weight of 142....142....
And, then when negotiations between Cotto and Pac stalled a little bit. Mosley cameback saying he would put his belt on the line at a catch-weight of 142 or even fight Pac at 140 for his belt since he didn't win a JWW belt because he skipped that division. That's how much Mosley wanted the fight.
There was no offer to Shane that he turned down. So don't come in here and make up shit.
