Maybe I'm overrating Mayorga's power, but Cotto took a lot of pretty crisp shots from Mayorga and was hardly fazed. What does this mean for the Margarito fight? If he rematches Pac at a catchweight of 150 and uses his boxing skills, will this perceived difference in durability affect the outcome at all?
I didn't even mention the Judah fight, his chin is 6/10 just slightly above average I think. He also never got hit on the chin dead on in the Mosley fight like he did against Torres, Judah and Manny. But that is why I say he doesn't have a bad chin, he can be hurt but it has to be a very accurate punch.
Agreed. Just curious, but where do you rate Mayweather's chin? He doesn't get hit often so it's hard to say. I know that whenever he has been hurt it doesn't seem to effect his coordination for very long at all. I wonder if him and Cotto are about the same in the chin dept.
I think it was the ninth when he got rocked the second time. Yea it shook him a little, but he weathered it very well. He actually took quite a few shots from Mayorga throughout the fight though.
What I want to know is where he put his chin from the Mosely fight!? He took some really good shots in that fight and he was largely fine.

I'm a Cotto fan to the bone, and I used to think he had a great chin, its good AT BEST, I'd give it a 7/10. Against Torres he was genuinely hurt, as he was with Manny and late in the Marg fight (End of 10 I think.) He's also been rocked by temple shots like in the Corley fight and he was wobbled twice by Mayorga's shots on the temple. Once in the 4th you see his knees wobble a bit but he had a very quick recovery. The second time in the 7th two following shots were right in the back of the head so its tough to tell if it was the first shot on the temple but, he still got hurt enough for Tarver to say "That shot rocked Cotto" or something like that. The fact is he can be hurt and he's been hurt too often to say his chin is solid, if it was you wouldn't have 5 or 6 fights of proof.

His chin was not the problem in the Marg fight he never got KD, he took two knees and said enough. If he gets knocked down against Marg it would suggest the opposite of what you are proposing though I have no idea why it would be better he is the same size now as he was then.
You're right, stamina and punishment to the body made Cotto take a knee, but he got hurt pretty badly in the 7th round with several left uppercuts that slowed him down significantly. He briefly rebounded in in the 9th but was tiring in the 10th and got rocked again. Yes, he was exhausted and that's what got him, but getting rocked messes up your head and messes up your reflexes. What I'm saying is that if his chin is more solid, he will be less phased by the deleterious affects of the punches that Margarito does land to his head, as long as his endurance is there he wins the fight. Like Larry alluded to, if he does what Mosley did he will also be in good shape. The question is whether or not it makes a difference, that's all.
all he has to do with margo is clinch and turn his and he beats him easily, manny is just a superior fighter and would just fukk him up again
Yea I think he beats Margarito too, but I don't think he can take Pacquiao in a rematch.
IDK where this idea that he doesn't have a good chin comes from, he has gotten buzzed and hurt before but never hit on the jaw and been unable to get up.....and yes you are overrating Mayorga he is not only totally shot but was a one hit wonder with Forrest even though they kept bringing him back loss after loss.
I'm not saying Mayorga is an awesome fighter--he's lost just about every time he has stepped up in competition; but Mayorga was in good shape and still able to throw a fast punch with some power behind it. I just think that he might be a little more durable chin-wise at 154.
As another person on the thread said, we will know more after Margarito.
