Imagine if you will, a world in which the most influential figure in boxing never existed.
Without the charismatic Muhammad Ali's influence, many realities in our world would never come to be and others that weren't supposed to, would.
What are some examples of these alternate realities that arguably would or would not happen if Muhammad Ali never existed in our world.
Ali is a legend. Greatest boxer ever (yeah I put him ahead of SRR). His win against Foreman is the greatest win in boxing history. Without him, I imagine that Foreman would have dominated to HW division for 25 years and would be seen as the greatest hw ever
Random thread, but cool.
He was unique. The sport wouldn't be the same without him. I mean, this guy was fighting during the civil rights movement and was an icon of rebellion for many all over the country--still is. He defined the generation and carried the torch of Joe Louis as an American icon, albeit one of rebellion. He immortalized boxing as an an integral part of American culture.
Would Leonard have ever become as popular as he did?
An "icon for rebellion"....just what we need. This posturing, illiterate loudmouth was not fit to shine Joe Louis' shoes, either as a boxer, an example to ALL Americans and as a public icon. As was said about him. he was "a credit to his race...the human race".
It's not surprising that Joe Frazier, as decent a man as ever was born, has not forgiven Ali to this day. And neither should any other anti-racist anti-cultist.

We would have better men fighting to protect us.

Joe Louis was a better man, and he was a better role model.
without ali's influence and footsteps to follow in, the great ray leonard might not have happened.
We had the exact same thought. I was typing my response when you posted.
