I have noticed a few people claiming that Morales is a new threat at 140 because he had a competitive fight with Maidana. IMO Maidana is just that terrible of a boxer and got exposed as such more than anything else. The problem with this thinking is that Morales has all of a sudden become a legitimate opponent for top fighters and I think that is a distraction. The likes of Khan and Bradley should be fighting each other or move up in weight at this point, not worry about whether or not Morales wins his next fight. I'm not saying he doesn't deserve credit, but I'd hate to see khan or Bradley fight him when they could be fighting more competitive fights. Thoughts?
Raheem... but Morales was already shot by that time..
It was a clear victory but not dominating. Raheem was running at the very last second.
Morales can still compete. That is clear as day.
He's been annoying me with his constant denial of quitting, he tends to say "That's all in the past" but won't stop mentioning how the media got at him for quitting. If it's all in the past then stop mentioning it as a whole, either that or own up and promise the fans that it ain't gonna happen again.
Like an addict admitting they've got a problem him admitting that he quit will on the contrary make him stronger mentally and will win him a tonne of new fans plus he's old ones. Fans forgive and forget easily!
Morales can be a factor depending on who they match him up with.
Morales is a superb technician, and he can still outbox a lot of the young guys.
I don't want to see him in with Khan or Rios. Other than them, I think he is at least competitive with anyone, at least to the point of not taking a beating.
To be honest, I'm really happy to see him back in the ring. As long as they manage him right, he can still be a force.
I have nothing against Ortiz and have always viewed him as a boxer with enormous potential but it would do a great deal for him mentally to move on and admit that he straight up quit. It honestly pains me watching the fight as Maidana was just winging telegraphed sloppy overhand rights. He was open all night for Ortiz left hands but he lost he's head. Morales showed what you can do if you're not intimidated by he's power and use your boxing skills. That said Maidana undoubted still won that fight!

Which is why Ortiz should be ashamed, despite that I strongly believe a rematch would turn out differently.

maybe, but he did beat ortiz....i mean , look at segura .... the man is more one dimentional than the word one dimentional itself but he beat calderon....

Morales is in my top two favorite fighters of all time, but no. He was in against a guy who was slow, and cant box. Just a clubber coming in to bomb him out. Erik will always do ok against those kind of guys. But he is still shot and shouldnt be fighting anymore.
Morales is a great name to have on your resume. 90% of the boxingfans fail to realize that it's more important WHEN you fight a legend than that you fight one.
I don't think Morales is a factor. He needs to get favorable matchups to keep shining.
Fighting Khan would be suicide.
No he's not, which further proves how basic of a fighter Maidana is.

as of the momment Erik has no legitimacy as contender but you can not deny that Erik fights are entertaining as hell and showed us want it means to be great and how pathetic Maidana skills are, the same Maidana who gave Ortiz and Khan hell...
The Joke of a sanctioning body, the WBC is giving Morales a fight for the vacant title. His opponent, Jorge Rodrigo Barrios! Barrios never even fought at 140 before and lost at 130lbs 3 fights ago to Rocky Juarez. Neither Morales or Barrios is currently in the top ten at light welterweight! And Maidana was not invited!
What a joke the WBC is!
no, only reason he looked good was cause of maidana's lack of skills.
you are absolutely right, Maidana need to have a new trainor, he has awesome power, the problem he dont know how to use it. A great army knows how to withdraw and wave into other position when danger ahead. I didnt saw that to Maidana he always go for a kill, it end up he got killed.
Cotto has done the best against Pacquiao so far, he won like 1 or 2 rounds maybe arguably 3 rounds. I don't consider shane running from almost the opening bell and winning next to no rounds as an accomplishment for going 12 rounds with Manny. And Clottey got outworked for 12 rounds too even tho he came forward alot just didn't land enough.
And Margarito who briefly hurt Manny with a body-shot didn't win 1 single round on my score-card. He was outworked like Clottey except Clottey has a better defense.
Are you basing your future expectations on him fighting at welter or JMW?
I think people are jumping on the Cotto/Pac II fight too soon. Lets see how Cotto looks against Margarito first. Cotto may have taken some damage in his career but something makes me feel he has a little more left in the gas-tank then Morales.
At least for this fight I would almost guarantee it. There is serious bad blood, and Cotto will be desperate to avenge his loss. After that is another story.
He may get that payday whether I like it or not but Khan is going to seriously fukk him up if it happens.
This is even worse than Pac fighting Cotto again. If either of those two things happen, I'm gonna be pissed.
