I think Juanma is a decent fighter and top contender but in no way is he the elite fighter he has been made out to be. He has power and that is about it. His chin isn't good, he's slow, and he doesn't even have the best technique. Gamboa would blow him out in under 5 rounds, Mikey Garcia would take him out in the late rounds if not sooner, Gary Russell would make him look stupid, Chris John would out box him, and Salido will defeat him again. Maybe he would be a good showcase for Donaire moving up to featherweight, lol. Nuff said.
That battle with Mtagwa had to take something out of him, if not made him better. Gamboa poses a big threat mainly due to his speed. Speed is power.
If Lopez is on point he can rock Gamboa, but that's if he can walk him down and neutralize the speed.
It'll be a good to watch.
Fight probably wont happen, cause I also think JuanMa wont beat Salido. So I'm hoping Mikey can fight the winner of Gamboa vs de Leon.
It'll be Gamboa. And I would love to see Yuri versus Mikey.
I like Mikey. I'd love to see him decapitate juanma once and for all.

Great write up, I've made threads before about JuanMa chin being suspect even when he beat Concepción.
The combination of sh!tty head movement and bad footwork makes JuanMa bait for Mikey, a fight that should make Mikey a household name.

so he would have preferred a non top rank fighter beat a top rank fighter when he had the option to keep all the money in house? Right. :lol1:
???what???
Juanma has good power and combinations, that's it. Its nowhere near enough to be a great fighter, his footwork is probably the worst in boxing aside from Maidana possibly. He has absolutely ZERO head movement and his defense is horrific. He could be a great fighter but I doubt it, if you degrade under the same trainer then you're never going to get better. For Mtagwa he was weight drained as sh*t and it showed in the fight. That being said Gamboa completely squashes him, within 5 or 6 rounds.

If juanma loses a rematch against salido then it's safe to say that he's most likely done. but if he beats salido and regains his FW belt then i think there's still hope.
I always said Juanma was a ko waiting to happen...Salido is trash and so is Mtagwa, he had no business getting his ass handed to him by those bums. I'm just glad this fight "building" crap blew up in that old greedy bastard(Arum)'s face. Hopefully it happens with that hype job named Chavez Jr next.
imo, hes not even as good as cotto. and ive never thought cotto was that great. so yea, hes good, but all he'll ever be is good. hes definitely not the next best thing as he was always being portrayed as. trinidad >>>>> cotto>>>>>>juanma
cotto's a hall of famer, though
not a first ballot guy like tito
but an eventual hall of famer
juanma has a ton of work to do
and he's a small guy moving up in weight getting closer to 30 (people who actually know the sport around here will tell you that a smaller man peaks early, and a smaller puncher peaks early, and a come forward and take punches type fighter peaks early)
yeah
juanma is largely done
Says the guy with Paul Williams in his sig, lmao!!! :stupid:
i put paul in there right after he took a hellish beating from lara to honor him
fvck off
your ******* still hurting from that hammering salido laid down?
remember?
when he SHOWED YOU WHAT HE WAS WORKIN WITH!!!
juanma just doesn't have a great chin and it doesn't help that he doesn't have great defense either. all he really has is his power and his ability to put together nice and accurate combinations.
I did think more of Juanma early on because he had more controlled agression. Now he seems a little more wide open. Cabs is useless and I always thought that.
He has regressed a bit but needs to sharpen up his basic skills and his defense for sure, plenty of talent and could still beat anyone at 126 potentially.
I completely agree with the notion of "controlled aggression." I think what JuanMa needs an attitude adjustment. He's been prone to brawling in his last couple of fights and paid dearly for it against Salido. If he gets back to basics, Lopez is still a force at 126.
Gamboa is my man. For a long time I wondered what the outcome of a bout between him and Lopez would be. Now that JuanMa lost to Salido, and Yuri's beaten Orlando, many more people seem convinced that "El Ciclon" murks Lopez. I'll admit that I'm more confident now that Yuri beats JuanMa, but nothing is ever that easy. Don't count Lopez out yet....

He hasn't looked very good since moving up to 126, IMO.
His technique has regressed and he's looked awful clumsy and plodding at times.
That is some weird sh!t, He HAD good technique but all of a sudden there he is throwing haymakers hoping to ko and that's it. I always thought that the worse thing to happen to that kid was for Trinidad to get close to him. Telling him he could ko anyone well, all juanma did was abandon whatever plan and discipline and go for that ko
I had to hear people talk all this sh!t about what he(JuanMa) would do to Gamboa blah blah blah
don't get me wrong JuanMa is still a very good fighter and I think he PROBABLY beats Salido in a rematch, but he still can't beat Gamboa...and BOB ARUM KNEW THAT which is why he never wanted to make that fight...had nothing to do with "BUILDING UP THE FIGHT" and it being "TOO EARLY"
but I am a fan of JuanMa also and I think he will bounce back from his loss, might actually make him an even better fighter

That's a reasonable take on the situation. Arum definitely didn't want juanma in there with Gamboa.
