I don't know why, but I have this weird feeling that he's kissing that 0 good-bye and it will happen soon. He's 34 yeard old and very inactive.
Not trying to make excuses for him but, you cannot take one fight a year and expect to be able to compete at the top of your game, something will go...reflexes, timing, speed or overall skills. Floyd can only blame himself if this happens.
when one says cutting off the ring...meaning the other guy keeps on running?
on this you are right that the pac mosley should not be the sole basis of pac's ability to cut-off the ring....
but let us go to another scenario....
what would floyd's reaction be if pac resorts to staring floyd down like pac did to cotto who was running scared on the later rounds? that is pac stopped chasing cotto and just stared him down....
what would floyd's reaction be when the fans start booing him for running?
remember, judges do not take too well for fighters who always run and does not engage...judges favor fight initiator than runners (the way mosley did run)....
your thoughts?
imo.. if pac stares at floyd... hes gonna eat a jab.
this ortiz fight will tell u everything u need to know. but no lion stays leasder of the pack forever. as far as the layoffs go, they definitely matter, but to a guy whos always in shape like floyd, they dont matter as much as some ppl think.
Don't base your judgement in just one fight. Pac can cut off the ring pretty good if you watch his other fights or just for example in Mosley fight actually when the ref wrongly called the knockdown, Pac forgot his leg cramp, started cutting off the ring and beat the hell out of Mosley. Floyd has to be 100% to beat Pac and be prepared to the non stop high pace assault and don't expect any mercy after what he did (PED acussation).

Ortiz vs Mayweather reminds me of Leonard vs Norris. You have in one corner a legend that depends on his skill, speed, and reflexes and have been out of boxing over a year. In the other corner you have a young lion who has just came off of a sensational victory and winning a world title. We all know that Norris dominated Leonard. The difference is Terry also beat his opponents with skill, speed, and his reflexes.Ortiz relies more on power and pressure. We don't know if the layoff will hurt Floyd the way it did Ray. If so, Ortiz will be a serious problem. I think Floyd should fight Ortiz and if he wins that, go after Manny now. I wouldn't fight Khan at this point. If everything is still intact, Floyd will beat Ortiz and Manny. Manny did not look good at all against a shot Mosley. I think he's slowing down.Manny would have to land the big one on Floyd if not,he gets outboxed easily. Amir Khan is an older fighter's nightmare. He's tall with long arms and crazy hand and foot speed. At this stage of his career, Floyd wouldn't be able to fight at Khan's pace. Khan would get off first and win a decision. If Floyd continues his career after Ortiz and Manny, he needs to stay away from these young fast hungry fighters. At this stage, Bradley would give him problems. Sergio Martinez is just too big and strong, plus he has speed. If the skills, speed, reflexes are intact, look for Floyd to break Ortiz down and get the KO. I see him making Manny look like an amateur, but Khan would give him his first defeat. Not because Amir is the better fighter, but because he will have size, youth, and speed on his side. At this stage if you are an older fighter, you stay away from that.
I agree, but one thing for sure...training/sparring are way different than actually fighting. Sure he's in shape but something might not ne there anymore, or there could be something slipping. These lay-offs can mess him up, and in this sport, THAT is very dangerous.
we will see on sept 17.
i want floyd to KO ortiz.
if that happens people would really want to see floyd/manny next year.
Don't worry he won't lose to Ortiz. The only person Floyd can lose to is Pacquiao. Floyd has enough power to get Ortiz and Khan to respect him, but I just don't think he could keep Manny off of him. Mayweather is a freak anyways, he is constantly in great shape because he is training even when he is on his long ass retirement type vacation.

Floyd has already admitted he will lose one day, but not any time soon. He feels right now like he can't be beaten. And usually, a fighter knows when he's going to lose. You hear them talking like, "This is a tough test", "Who ever wins, it'll be by knock out", etc, and they start talking about how they don't feel it in the gym anymore.
Last pics I saw of Floyd training, he looked pretty in to his training and looked very serious, also Floyd has recently talked about eating organic food "i've been eating these guys while eating junk food like Burger King, now i'm eating organic food, taking care of myself a lot better" and we all know Floyd has always took care of himself. He doesn't drink or smoke and I believe that because it is very hard to stay in shape like he does at this age, if you drink or don't take care of yourself.
So he will one day lose his 0, but not now. Plus, I want to see how he does against Ortiz, if he looks like he did against Marquez and Mosley, then there's nothing to worry about. I think when Floyd hits 36, that's when i'm really gonna worry about him losing his 0. If he fights Ortiz, Pacquiao, and Khan all before 36, he beats them. And I think he's gonna fight Pacquiao next, which he's gonna be 35, then he better fight Khan at the end of 2012 and just retire after that. Maybe one more fight at 160 for the WBC title, then retire.
I been saying this for a while now...
I think Pac has the biggest shot at beating Floyd to be honest. Ortiz is too open for counters, and don't have the skills to outbox or outfight Floyd. Khan's chin is still somewhat questionable, he's got quick hands but looks pretty sloppy and off balance when he throws sometimes. Pac would fight at a pace Floyd has probably never ever fought at, and he will attack Floyd relentlessly. Floyd may get stopped for the first time against Pac.
Floyd is a great boxer though, very talented and gifted. If the long lay-off somehow don't affect him and shows up 100% then I can see him toy and embarass Pac since he seemed to have problems cutting off the ring against a non-slick, scared Mosley.
A lot of questions will get answered come Sept (Floyd vs Ortiz) Maybe we will know what to expect after the fight.:dunno:

I was thinking the same thing. You can't be an older fighter and only fighting once every year and a half. Floyd either has to retire or be more active. Even if it's taking a tune up fight here and there against a scrub.
I been saying this for a while now...
I agree, kinda. It just depends who it will be against. Ortiz? Pac? The guy after? One night or another, he will realize that he got old and will have to grind it out to win.

any fighter that keeps fighting will lose, it happens to all fighters. But according to so called "boxing fans" loses dont mean anything...because most of the boxers have loses.
