Don't get me wrong, I think he's a very entertaining fighter and he can fight. I just don't see him beating Marquez or Guerrero at 135 lbs. Let's not even talk about 140 lbs. Khan, Maidana, Bradley, Alexander, even Judah and Matthysse. I don't see him beating any of those guys either. I can't see him beating Broner either. Rios reminds me a lot of Margarito and David Diaz. They all fight flat footed, come straight forward, relentless, lack of defense, with good chins. I think Rios can put his punches together a little better though. But being relentless with a good chin can only get you so far.
With all that said, I can't wait for his next fight. I like him for what he is, but I don't expect him to fight world class fighters anytime soon. Rios vs Barrera? Really Arum? I don't think we'll ever see Rios fight who we want him to fight cause of Arum.

Just read some of those comments after His fight with Antillon. There numerous threads at the time about how he's the future and will easily clean out 135-140. I just didn't get it, which is why I made this thread 3 years ago. I remember Bread from a different site was calling him a beast and extremely hard to beat. Saying he was special. I called him out on it recently and he said he never said that of Rios. How easily people forget.
With that said, I still like him for what he is! Very fun to watch in my opinion. He's definitely not elite though!!

Rios said during the fight that he was pulling his ear then in the post fight interview he said he was scratching his eye. I think Rios made that **** up cuz he broke his collar bone when they fell.
he's not a bad fighter at all, although he's showing tonight was terrible, he was alot slower than usual and had alot less power
i think he needs to get the strength and conditioning back, he looked fat, they probabley trained like he was making 140 but without any diet, and he's just carrying around alot of useless mass slowing him down, plus no strength training, yea, physically he was alot more athletic and explosive with ariza, those leg workouts workout wonders
and now im curious to see maidana who wanted to keep ariza, he seemed alot more athletic than usual too, but with alex gone could regress plus i wonder how his confidence will be affected, by fight week he'll probabley have felt he could have done more in training
lol who is or ever was sold on Rios? He's a C level fighter.
He got an absolute gift, he was losing the fight and if you ignore the bull**** point deductions, he was losing by quite a clear margin.
The only one? I think the better question would be "Who is sold on Rios?".
He lost to Abril, to Alvarado, to Pac, and now Chavez was in winning until Drakulich killed the fight. So probably he should have 4 defeats. But the main point is that he is the definition of an unskilled, one dimensional brawler. But it will be fun when they'll beat the hell out of each other with Provodnikov.
Nice to see another that seen straight through it. It surprises me, a lot as Brandon Rios is truly one of the most limited fighters I've ever seen.
I honesty regret the hours I spent pointing out the obvious.
I called it 3 years ago, when he was 28-0. Not hard to see at all. Many of you will say you guys always knew he was 1-dimensional, but reading through these old posts, many guys on here were so in love with Rios. Thought he was the next great thing lol.
Like I said before, being relentless with a good chin will only get you so far. He's fun to watch though. And have you guys noticed his speech is getting worse?
Rios should make his way to 140 soon.
Some great fights for him there.
Matthysse, Maindanna, Guerreo even Katsidis would be cool.
I'm not sold he beats Khan or Bradley but it could be a potential good fight down the line.
In terms of putting him up with Pacqiuao is just outright ridiculous.
Did you see how much he got hit against those fighters? I think he relies on his chin a little too much. I would say that we'll just see when he fights a world class fighter, but knowing Arum, that'll never happen.
I'm not saying Rios sucks or anything like that. I like him, I just don't see him beating the top guys.
he beat a really good boxer/puncher in acosta, a really good pressure fighter in antillon and he even beat the holy grail of boxers a slick african american in peterson. all by knockout. how can you not be sold?
Margarito was and has always been overrated in my opinion. His best win was against Cotto and that has controversy all over it. Cotto was beating him the majority of the fight. Other than that fight, who exactly did Margarito beat to be on the top of that division? Cintron?
I'm just not sold on Rios at all. Arum won't put him up against anyone I named up there, you'll see. I do like Rios though. Boxing needs more boxers (or should I say brawlers) like him.
Im sold on him as a champion at 135.. Who knows if he could be the one at 135 to topple JMM other than Manny.
I think he beats Guerrero at 135 and with JMM its a toss up. JMM is up there in age and has a lapse or two during fights when he usually gets floored.. If Rios hit him would he be able to bounce back??
I would love for him to fight Katsidis since the styles make perfect sense and you know the outcome will come within 5 or 6 rounds
