Id respect Paul Williams alot more if he admitted he thought he lost the fight

plenty of great fighters have in the past...it takes a big person to do so Can you imagine if it was someone like Arreola who got that decision? He'd be lobbying for it to be overturned.

I was really disappointed to hear Paul say he thought he won. Especially since they have him on recording admitting he needed a KO to win. Kellerman should have gone a step further in the interview and been like "well you said you needed a KO to win, did you get the KO? Did I miss something here?" I like Paul, he comes off as a really nice dude, but that was disappointing to hear. And in regards to everyone saying no fighter admits they lost or should admit it. OK, maybe he doesn't say "damn, I just got my butt whipped". But he could be like Felix Sturm a couple weeks back. He didn't necessarily admit defeat, but he said "yes it was a close fight, I will grant him an immediate rematch". He at least had the class to admit it was controversial. Don't piss in the fans' pockets and tell us it's raining

Paul knows he got that ass whooped. That was written all over his face along with 100% of his team from the end of the fight until the decision was read. And if you think this fight was any closer than 116-112, scoring fights just ain't for you. I'm done with Paul if he won't admit he prevailed in the face of robbery. I always thought he was a stand-up guy, but that's some b*tch ass sh*t.

I played bball both in high school and college and I never ONCE gave another team props for handing a loss to us. Any loss that happened, happened because we didnt play right, not the other teams talent or will. I dont know too many ballers/fighters ect. that would openly give props like that; most internalize a loss and blame themselves, not the other. In P-Will's case (as big of a fan as i am of his) i had it 7-5 for Lara. The fact that he said he won the fight is refreshing, f**k it. Humbleness happens once a fighter retires. To hell with being humble and saying another man won. That's the attitude he needs right now. Everyone knows he wants a Martinez scrap. Admitting he lost wont help his case of getting one last go-round with Sergio. And, sometimes, HBO exaggerates the s**t out of some fighter's performances. If you listen to the commentators, you would think Lara won all 12 rounds.. Williams didnt get destroyed, just outboxed. Lara's left hand was the telling tale of the night, but the clash of heads is what caused all the blood from Williams. If you take away the left hand from Lara, things would have looked different..

the fight was closer than hbos team of clowns called it. on top of that williams was pushing forward all the time, threw more punches and did some great work on the inside. lara clearly won, but its not like williams didnt have his moments. i can see how he thought he won from inside the ring. regardless i couldnt have more respect of williams than i do. True. Williams should have got 4-5 rounds and he kept punching and coming forward every round. Williams wasen't dominated he was just hit with harder and more flashy shots but he was in the fight every round.

Especially considering that Max Kellerman caught him red-handed by bringing up the exchange in the corner: Peterson: "You need a knockout to win this fight" Paul: "I know" Then there was the look of utter defeat after the bell. Come on Man! Just admit that you lost.

His face was battered he was slurring his speech and he still couldnt conceive he lost. I think he mumbled the fight was close or something. I would lose respect for Sergio if he decided to fight him again. Theres no reason, he beat him once by decision and felted him in the second fight. I think Williams should fight a gimme fight and call it a day. Hes had a good run.

this was reminiscent of the hopkins-calzaghe fight where calzaghe and his trainer knew he needed a knockout to win going into the last round and looked utterly defeated before the decision was announced but immediately changed their tune and pretended like they had won. maybe williams will even say he beat the crap out of lara in a weeks time like calzaghe said.

Exactly. That really bugged me. I was ready to give him props, saying he fought his heart out and I'll really miss seeing him in the ring, but then he had the audacity to say he won...He and his trainer BOTH agreed that they needed a knock out going into the 12th round. They even told him that they heard that conversation and he still tried to say he won...Pathetic.
