This is a serious question, not a knock on the sport?
Is it the street fight or bar fight sense that brings people to it ? Honestly I dont know 1 person who used to watch just wrestling or just kick boxing or karate? I have given it plenty of opportunities but just cant get into it and I dont know anybody in my circle of friends that watch it so I was wondering what it is about it that draws people.
Blood, brutal KOs and guys punching other guys almost till death ... I mean 4 Oz gloves, of course they're going to get brutal KO punches!
punching each other almost till death...bwahahha you are obviously have no idea about mma
1. very entertaining when fought standing up as caused by wide array of martial arts discipline that can be used... sucks when you see two guys on a missionary position for about 5 minutes...
2. most events are composed of great under cards...
3. blood...
4. more blood...

It takes more of a thinker to be a boxing fan than MMA fan, you gotta understand the science of boxing to love it while MMA is easier to like because its not as much of a chess match compared to boxing (at the moment). But when MMA evolves it will become more boring to the "LETS SEE BLOOD" fans when they learn to keep their hands up lol
allot of those guys get kod because they didnt start out boxing they arent as proficeint in it. they make mistake liike closing their eyes as a punch comes a bunch of otherstuff. they are really skilled grap;ers though. i started martial arts when iwas little so i got into mma on my own before really getting into boxing.it waast untill i watched allot of the classics did i realiz that there is a huge skill difference when it comes to the boxing. both are great its stupid when people say one is better like one bbeats the other in a street fight whoever kicks the guy in the balls first is gonna win.
Ill always feel more passionate about a major boxing event I think, but I watch way more MMA, and honestly, I see more top UFC fights in a month than I usually do for boxing all year.
Plus its a free fix of fighting so I dont really care.
Its the knockout that they want to see.
yeah, this is true. lots of newer fans get into because they see highlights that include pretty brutal ko's. i watch for the same reason i watch boxing, it requires skills, technique, and heart. also, it's entertaining as hell when two fighters give it their all.
And to elaborate on the original question's answer: "Drunks that like KOs"...
This is how MMA first got popular. Just drunks that will see a guy go down from a jab due to small gloves and the ref stop it ASAP and go "YEAH HE GOT KNOCKED THE **** OUT!!!" and then say how much better than boring boxing matches that was.
Now some fans are beyond that though a lot still thrive off quickie stoppage knockdown "knock out" results. It's just 'popular' now. The media covers it. The media doesn't cover boxing. That's all.
Unfortunately, this is partially true. But the truth is, a lot of MMA promoters have no one to blame but themselves. Back in the 90's when MMA JUST got on the scene, the way they promoted themselves was this whole, "2 men enter 1 man leaves!!!" BS, making it sound like a friggin deathmatch...which unfortunately attracts the moronic meatheads you see today...

My Opnon is grown Men who watched WWF or WWE as kids and when they became men they figured out that wrestling was fake they went to MMA where they can watch their wrestling matches that turned real. MMA fans have never been boxing fans they just like talking **** about like bringing up phony claims that boxing is dying

Drunks that like KOs. I watch MMA and don't hate it but absolutely hold boxing higher. That said, I have a few 'theories' on MMA that could sound like I blindly hate it or something.
'People get the fights they want to see!' is one I've just developed a thought process on. I think that's a myth. I think the idea that all these top guys are always fighting each other is predicated off a false pretense. That there are very few elite MMA fighters and a handful of 'top talent' but the rest are varying degrees of 'not good'.
Take Dan Hardy. This guy beats up Marcus Davis and Mike Swick and becomes "#1 contender" to GSP. Gets handled with ease and then gets dominated against Condit and Johnson. This guy was NEVER a 'top guy' and any fight with him and a contender will be hyped as 'top guys' fighting, falsely.
UFC is littered with guys like this that just got falsely promoted as a 'top guy' that shot through the rankings like a rocket over other
unproven or otherwise 'not good' fighters and then got to title contender and then couldn't win against anybody "good" again. Houston Alexander, Keith Jardine, Brandon Vera, and Gabriel Gonzaga.
MMA's "top guys fight each other" thing is akin to boxing having Tye Fields vs Monte Barrett and John Duddy fight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Names and false accomplishments; not so much the best.
For me personally, I grew up with a lot of different martial arts. So for me kickboxing and MMA were a little easier to understand. It actually took MMA for me to really get into boxing. You can tell who the real MMA fans are and the fad/fairweather fans are in one conversation. Which is where I think I can help answer your question, people come from all walks, and MMA is just that Mixed MArtial Arts, so when people see it they can come fomr a Judo, Wrestling, BJJ, submission grappling background and it immediately clicks. The same can be said for the stand up, whether you like kung fu, karate, muay thai, or boxing, you can understand a punch or a roundhouse kick. So it may be a little more appealing. On the other hand, you get kids who think, "It's a real streetfight" but don't understand **** so they get into it and fake the funk, they pretend to like it because MMA's booming right now and "everyone" likes it. So imo, it appeals to some people, but the other group is just in it to say they like it. Kinda like what skateboarding was a few years back, i remember EVERYONE wanted to be friggin Tony Hawk...it was pathetic
Its a combat sport that has more variables of what can happen...some people find it more entertaining
Nothing wrong with liking a combat sport, dont see why boxing fans get insecure because MMA became big when really it has helped us boxing fans get more fights we want since they have competition to deal with.
