More specifically Larry Merchant.
"Larry, you made the point that David Haye is actually the betting favourite in Britain"
Erm no he wasn't. Every bookmaker I checked out in the UK had Haye as the underdog.
I should know seeing as I stupidly put a tenner on him.
Never again.
I wish I had watched a HBO stream instead, the comedy from the HBO team would have made sitting through that fight worthwhile.
Brits think their fighters are usually better than what they are and think way too highly of their futbol program. They are pretty biased.
As does the US, as so many of their fighters have found out in the past couple of years.
Truth is, the US and UK have the most marketing power through the media and the two wealthy nations have the greatest capacity for promotion and hype so it will always be like that.
Of course HBO will hate on Haye v Klitschko.
They can't stand to see the division dominated by European fighters.
I can't remember how many times I have stayed up all night to watch a HBO broadcast, only to be disappointed by the fight on show. Although when it involves American's it's classed as a 'chess match' when it involves European's it's classed as 'boring'.
This is also true. European fights are held to a higher standard than in the US, it's like they have to show something extra just because they're from across the pond.
And not many Brit's believed Haye could win. We hoped he could win. It's a big difference. That's why I love our sporting climate....win or lose, we stick by our nations sports stars. Some people call that passion. Sadly American boxing lacks it.
Agreed.
im never watching hbo again after this, if there is a great fight that for some reason is only available on hbo i will watch on mute.
it seems to me the hbo crew (merchant in particular) go out of their way to ruin the fight for the viewers. for a long time i thought they just started to suck but at this point i think its on purpose for whatever reason, u cant suck that bad by accident.
look at the dawson-pascal fight, not a epic fight but not a bad one either by any means. quite entertaining or atleast it wouldve been if it wasnt for merchants constant *****ing, thats all he does is complain. he talks about tactical fights like its the worst thing in the world then tries to wreck them for everyone.
wlad-haye wasnt what ppl expected but it wasnt a bad fight and u certainly cant bash either fighter. haye tried, wlad was just too skillful for him. at first he tried to pick his spots as you would expect, when he couldnt reach wlad he tried to counter instead. wlad was just too good but he tried. as did wlad obviously, he walked haye down but he couldnt get wreckless since haye was constantly trying to set him up for a big punch.
it was a chess match but whats wrong with that? i enjoyed it, after i put the volume on mute that is.
THANK YOU. larry merchant is a massive cunny. moany tossers all of them.

Even Roy at the end was pretty much this is **** and I know we can find a young American to beat this guy. I think HBO said what most fans were thinking.
Haha. Its hilarious how insecure African Americans are about the Bros.
They cant stand that a couple of whiteboys are tearing **** up.

I enjoyed last nights fight. It wasn't action packed, but it was very engrossing and kept me glued for the duration.

they cover Mexican fights pretty fairly ...
I always think they are negative about every fighter on HBO.
Seriously, who do they like?
I personally hate Larry Merchant. He's a terrible old ****er.
And who is the young American heavyweight?....give up on that for a while.

He said it in the 11th round just before the "knockdown".
Yeah I agree I bet with my heart on the Haye fight. I'm cool with Haye losing. But the post-fight excuses and the performance after all the pre-fight trash talk was embarrassing.
