In boxing's infancy fighter's faught until their opponent could not compete anymore. While this is not logical today in modern times with concussion's and parkinson's out there. That kind of fighting spirit is missing from the sport. Great fighters like Louis, Marciano, Ali, Hagler, Duran, plus more you get it, would fight for 15 round bouts for a lot less money than the fighter's of today are making.
15 rounds makes for a much better fight because thats a long time to just run and if you do run for that long you won't have to worry about getting many more big fights. 15 is an odd # so it would make for a lot less draws and quite frankly the fighter's would be less likely to continue that long.
12 rounds is suitable for a heavyweight fight because the division is based on power punching. But these little guy's out here fighting for 12 rounds or a despicable 10 rounds in that Devon Alexander fight last week has to stop at the point where fighters are asking for $50 million while the pay per view cost keeps growing let's give the people what they pay for a real fight and not a glorified sparring session.
It went down to twelve after bouts like Ali Frazier in Manilla, but surely that kind of fight in those searing temperatures is not the norm. 12 rounds is too often unsatisfactory. I give you Macklin Sturm last week as an example.
It went down to 12 due to tv scheduling reasons.
The championship rounds had more meaning. All the mental and physical attributes got tested. Don't think you would have these 6'07" 250 lbs HW around or fighters bloating up 15-20lbs at fight night.
Doubt if they ever come back cause it is the accumalation of more punches in a fight and in a career
Most of the people that ask for this are fans that have no idea what it's like to get into the ring.
Very macho. :spank:
You obviously don't know the history of the sport if you are worried about getting hurt it's time to find a new profession because this is the hurt business, these boys are making more in one fight than other pro athletes make all year. Along with olympic testing let's just put them in head gear, because I've seen better sparring sessions at the gym than some of these fights. :boxing:
Everyone knows Margarito had plaster mits so he is a bad example plus you can always stop the fight and these guys get way to much money for a fight to complain about three more rounds.

I have to agree, they need to bring back 15 rds of boxing,oh and get rid of all the bogus belts as well..There should be one belt and one belt alone, the Ring belt..All these damn belts are driving me crazy, that heavyweight that fought on the undercard of Devon Matt's had like 4 belts and not one of umm meant jack Sh!t...
I prefer the old fifteen round format, but I've gotten used to twelve rounders. Once the change is in, it's hard to take back.
I have to agree, in principle, with what you say about belts. The old "one division, one champ" way is the only way. All these ridiculous alphabet belts only benefit the organizations that support them and the (usually) mediocre fighters that hold them.
heck yea! can you imagine if PAC-Shane was 15rounds?!?!? it would have been so awesome
also, think of all the John Ruiz fights with 15 rounds!
What if Morales - Barrera was 15 rounds!?!?
What if Pacquiao - Marquez was 15 rounds!?
What if Gatti - Ward was 15 rounds!?!?
It goes the other way around too Mack ;)
I agree, make non HW title fights 15 rounds. Im tired of midgets running for 12 rounds and people calling them "slick" when they did nothing but run and throw 1-2 punches that landed and 50 air punches.
