Floyd has been one of the most dominant fighters I've seen. Takes a lot just for him to lose a round. I'm starting to think he feels his time is coming to an end though.
Floyd choosing Ortiz is, in my opinion, the boldest move he has made in his career. To this point, every opponent has been a calculated risk and good business. Ortiz will be good business for him too, but he is also perhaps the biggest risk out there, and I know that Floyd is aware of that. His words reflect a different attitude leading up to this fight than I am used to.
I think his long layoffs and acting out outside the ring were a precursor to this state of mind. I think he had some bad premonitions. I believe that is why he threw a wrench in the works with Pac. He had some doubts and needed time to resolve his concerns.
I think he is embracing his fate, and looking to go out as a champ taking on the best. I respect him for that.
I think Floyd can knock Victor out....My reasons being are: Can Ortiz's chin stand up to precise, quick, accurate punching from Floyd? Especially for 12 rounds...Floyd will make you miss, and missing tires you out, and getting hit while tired will make you taste canvas or quit.
why do people talk about the mosley fight? what was his land %? he landed 2 good punches....so what. its because floyd is so good that he never gets hit that when he gets hit with a couple good shots a big deal is made.
Besides inactivity there's no indication of that being true whatsoever. When he has fought he has been utterly dominate and showed no signs of decline. He's lost one round combined in his last two fights.
He did win clearly but look at his legs. Specially against Mosley fight, he was way too flat footed. Not the same fighter.
I think it is a different way of looking at the same situation. Floyd is getting ready to move on, I would say because he knows he can't stay at the top much longer.

I think the problem is that Floyd doesn't enjoy boxing that much anymore and when you are not in that state of mind then theirs no point in getting in the ring no more. I think that the best scenario is for him to fight Ortiz n then Pac and call it quits.
i have a bad feeling this will be it for floyd........
not taking away anything from vic.....
but i think floyd is already done with boxing, after this....and will try to mend his life

Floyd other than not fighting much hasnt shown us that he has dipped so much to the extent he cant continue to win against green guys like Ortiz. FLoyd can lose on any given day though, and it would be a shame Ortiz would get all the credit for beating FLoyd first rather than Pac.
But i don t realy care who beats him to be honest.
If Ortiz gets off first on Floyd he can win the fight. I know Floyd can't hurt Ortiz after hes been hit WAY harder by Maidana and Berto.
Ortiz needs to start working on his stamina. If he can apply pressure and get off first for 12 rounds he will win.
I agree with you but the problem with Ortiz getting off first is that he has NO jab. If he's going to try to get off first simply by throwing that lead straight left he is just going to get his ears boxed/countered off plain and simple. he's going to have to jab to win this fight and up to this point he has not proven he can do that effectively/consistently.
And Floyd can ABSOLUTELY hurt Ortiz. I mean how can you possibly say bring up Maidana when Ortiz quit against Maidana haha Mayweather will hit Ortiz twice as much as either of those guys.
Anyone who thinks Floyd is on another level is a fool.
The guy has fought 3 times in 6 years. He couldn't KO the much smaller Lightweight champion Marquez at Welterweight. His last KO was in 2005 versus a 140lb Hatton that went up in weight to fight Floyd. By his actions he is definitely not the p4p champ.
The harsh truth is Floyd knows he needs a big win versus a guy like Ortiz. And many more after that. Floyd know his window is getting shorter and wants to find out how good he really is. The way a real warrior would. It is good to see Floyd has grown up.
September 17 will be a proving ground for both guys. Ortiz trying to prove he has arrived. And Floyd trying to prove to himself that his career wasn't all cherry picked. Which sad to say... for the most part has been.
May the best man win.
as for me...i see a pretty even fight but i am taking the 6 to 1 odds in Vegas for Ortiz.
He is way too green for Floyd. The fact that he's only 23 years old is not a good thing. People make it seem that being young is good although it means that this guy is so inexperienced as they come.
Good to have FM back in the ring though.

I disagree with your assessment. I think we've seen in fights with Castillo and Hatton that Floyd can be gotten to with a lot of pressure. Certainly much more so than the guys who sat outside and tried to box. Yeah Hatton got chewed up in the process, however Ortiz throws much more refined punches than Hatton(with a lot more speed and power). Not to mention Ortiz is a southpaw, and will be throwing at more problematic angles for Floyd. I don't think Ortiz is overly green either, he's a legit champion who has gone through some wars with top fighters.
All my points on Floyd by wide UD if you want it.

Ortiz is coming to fight. This is why he is going to get beat up. He is still green enough to get caught by easy shots, and he is going to be overly aggressive which you just cant do against a guy like Floyd. His size may keep him in the fight, but he is going to lose a wide and clear UD. Nothing against Ortiz, I actually like the kid. But I look at the styles of the two fighters and I just dont see how Ortiz can win. He needs to hope that Floyd lost his legs over his layoff.

you are either giving floyd way to much credit or ortiz way to little... Ortiz is a young hungry fighter, who happens to be a southpaw (something that has given floyd trouble in the past) and also happens to have single punch knockout power in both hands... to say he has "no chance" is ridiculous... I'm gonna have to say you probably hate floyd and are trying to discredit his opposition, am i right?
Ortiz doesn't suck, Floyd is just way too good for him
this is a tuneup, plain and simple
it's a 100% credible fight, but still an easy one for Floyd
