I watched Marvin Hagler vs John Mugabi for the first time last night

Hagler was an awesome champion. I truly think Mugabi was a very good fighter and KO artist. It took a great champion to beat him in that fashion. It still took a lot out of Hagler though. Ray fought him at the right time. But, I think it was evenly matched because Ray hadn't fought in years. Ray was a little past his prime as well. 2 great champions fighting their hearts out. There's nothing like it in sports. The Super Bowl, The Finals or whatever sporting event there is doesn't compare to 2 mega champions putting it all on the line in the ring. That's why so many people want to see Manny and Floyd get in the ring. The excitement is breathtaking. Fighters wanted to prove they were the best back then. In this day and time, its just not the same. Its all about money.

the funny thing is that everyone talks about Hagler coming out righty against SRL but he fought the 1st round righty against Mugabi also. Against SRL I think he did for 3 rounds though

Hagler even on the downside of his career would still KO all of these current 154-160 fighters today lol He didn't look bad against Mugabi, I think the SPEED is what Ray Leonard was looking at

Also, have you seen "Legendary Nights" with SRL-Hagler? Very good one. All of them are. Here's a clip where SRL talked about wanting Hagler after seeing that fight. I have that fight and more then 20 more Hagler fights, and i think you can look at the fight at two ways. One: A bit past his prime Hagler bombed out an undefeated hard hitting prime Mugabi in a classic war from start to the end. And the loss Mugabi got cut his carrier short and was never the same again after giving all in the slugging war fight. The loss hurt and mentaly stopped Mugabis progress, and all damage the fight gave was to much and aged him short of. Two. Hagler beat a good contender in Mugabi, in a classic fight despite showing wear and tear after 13 year and 65+ fights, and coming off a long lay off and the Hearn war. However the question is how good was Mugabi really ?? He didnt show greatness after that fight, improved and becoming better. Was Mugabi simply a good undefeated contender who gave it all in the ring, and looked better then he really was because Hagler had started to slipp and maybe fought the wrong fight against a puncher to prove how tough he was. Or was Mugabi a very good fighter with shot for greatness but the loss took to much out of him, his body and mind ?? I mean despite that Jermain Taylors two fights with Hopkins together was not close to how much damage Mugabi took, he was/is, never been the same after facing Hopkins. Not mentaly thats clear, started to look as he doubt himself, didnt fight all out in his fights. So what does others think about how good was Mugabi really ? I mean the win for Hagler rates as one of his better by most, and people talk like Mugabi was really "the beast" and as a highlight win for Hagler. No question Hagler was one of the best middleweights ever, but how much had he slipped ? Fought he the wrong fight, just to prove how tough and that he could win any way he wanted, to please the audince ?

SRL thought Hagler looked like he was slipping & struggled way too much with him which was why he decided to come out of retirment and face him in the next fight after turning it down for years Hagler didn't look bad to me.
