Honestly between the two, Canelo shows more promise than JCC Jr. who's been riding his dad's shadow the whole way up. Canelo would spark JCC Jr. if (once) they meet up in the ring.
he was 19 years old and a welterweight. he looked like a boy at that point in his life. now he's a robust, 23 year old man who weighs 170 on fight night.
do you really think cottos brother would do that to a modern alvarez? of course he would not.
most of your favorite fighters were years away from network TV on their 19th birthdays.
Lol, it still doesn't change the fact that he got rocked by a lightweight... As far as I'm concerned his chin is suspicious. Trout was a good win, but that fight could have gone either way (I scored it for Trout). Other than that his best win was probably against a 41 year old Mosley (who like Josesito, was unranked at 154).
Zbik, Rubio, and Lee were all considered top 10-15 middleweights on most rankings and Sergio Martinez was still in his physical prime, considered the #3 P4P, lineal middleweight champion w/4 straight KO defenses.

The answer is JCC Jr. Without his name, no hype. Calling Canelo a hype job smells of baiting, there is no reason whatsoever to consider him a hype job.
Hahaha he only has like 4 more fights then Canelo.
Sergio Martinez is on a different level then Trout Lopez and Mosley.
Floyd will show what Canelo really is.
And JCC JR would Spark Canelo out cold. Canelo got rocked by a fat Cotto lol

Why do fans take the "HYPE JOB" stuff out on the fighters as if they are the ones that started the hype. It is their stupid a$$ fans that come and start the hype then if they don't live up to it those fans disappear and sign on with new accounts and on a new bandwagon...WTF happened to the Bute fans?
Obviously Canelo is the bigger hype job, the fact that Floyd is fighting a weight drained malnourished hype job is pathetic. At least fight the hype job at his weight class, but hey Floyd fans support it.
canelo had a win over the top jr mw not named floyd mayweather.
JR's best win is still andy lee.
canelo is much more proven, and given that hes younger and more active, it's a landslide.
chavez has also failed a ped test, a recreational drug test, and there was that fiasco in texas after the rubio fight.
Well Chavez has 40 something fights & only what 3 or 4 of those guys are decent, that's just crazy. Hahaha he only has like 4 more fights then Canelo.
Not even close JCC jr.....
they're both hype jobs but Canelo is only 21 and he seems to be fighting tougher opponents
Sergio Martinez is on a different level then Trout Lopez and Mosley.
Floyd will show what Canelo really is.

at this point, it's Chavez
Alvarez at least beat his first really credible opponent
Chavez choked against Martinez, did nothing until the ass end
but that said, people now know he's a good but not elite fighter
Alvarez is now cracking p4p lists and people think he can beat Floyd
the reality check will come after that fight
I think both have lived up to the hype...
People think they are bums but they have held their own vs good competition...
Both wont be p4p guys, but they are legit fighters, and not the bums alot of people think they are....
It's pretty simple really, Canelo get's a lot of hype while Chavez Jr get's a lot of criticism. Canelo is probably a worse fighter than most of his supporters think (overrated power, poor stamina, low workrate, untested chin, etc.) while Chavez is probably a little better than most of his critics think (granite chin, decent power, size/rehydration advantage, decent stamina). Thus based on their probable hype to reality coefficient I would say Canelo is way more overhyped than Chavez Jr at present.
Chavez Jr has probably faced the tougher opponents as I doubt Canelo goes through Chavez Jr. resume undefeated (Sergio Martinez, Andy Lee, Rubio, Zbik, Carlos MolinaX2); Canelo's biggest challenge so far was against Austin Trout where he won a very close fight, which I personally scored for Trout. Canelo has better fundamentals and better technique, but if they ever faced head to head, it's pretty probable that Chavez Jr. would be able to walk him down and stop him.
How is Canelo still over hyped???
He beat a very good fighter in Austin Trout, which was a damn good win.
good win, but what else has he done is what im wondering?
Oh now trout is a hype job.The majority of fans had him number 1 jmw
at that time.
Its just an personal opinion. He was more proven then Canelo before they fought but still a hype job.
They both were. If you think about it, JCC Jr actually fought better people in his weight class(well Canelo didn't really fight opponents in his weight class at all except for Trout). Canelo on the other hand only has Trout who was pretty much a hype job as well.

Interesting results...
Wonder what the poll would have looked like if it was created in October/November 2012.
Their resumes looked a bit different then.
Canelo had no Trout (which wasn't a GREAT win anyways), and no scheduled bout against Floyd.
I would have voted Canelo instead, personally.
JCC jr went on and beat a couple good middleweights after this poll was made.
To me its Canelo.
Won a vacant title thanks to uncle Sulaiman. They have both fought lots of "below average" competition but Canelo has been hyped above and beyond than Chavez Jr.
If Chavez Jr. would have the dedication of Canelo, he would be a much better thread.
If they both faced in the ring (which GB will never allow to protect their hypejob) and Chavez had some discipline, it will be Chavez Jr. by KO.
Im very suspect but I belive that Canelo is hiding some glass in that chin of his and Chavez hits much harder than Canelo.
Was Chavez Jr ever actually hyped? I only ever heard ridicule right from the start of his career, if anything he has proved his doubters wrong by being significantly better than people said he was or could be.
