Deontay Wilder could very well be the future of the heavy weight division. He's young, Tall, 6'8 and strong . He was on the 2008 USA olmpic team. His team is bringing him along slowly keeping him in the dark, gaining experince learning the sweet science. I've heard that hes becoming a real force and has scary 1 punch ko power in both hands. His right hand and Jab is best weapons. He is from Alabama. Lets show our support for Deontay by researching him. http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/01bEdom0QA9uo/340x.jpg

Deontay wilder kos reid. Hes stepping up slowly. He is being protected at this point, This much I do know. But I believe hes being fed the right opponants at the right time. Each fight hes building up his confidense which is what a young inexperience fighter needs. You can have all the talent in the world but without self belief your nothing. Hes only been boxing since 2005 and thats in the amertures. Thats crazy, since then hes went all the way to the olmypics and became the only one on the team to win a medal in 2008 bejing. Say what you want but I see greatness in this kids future. He has a great story behind him. He works hard and hes hungry. With time I see him becoming a beast in the heavyweight division. Just remeber I'm the one who told you all this kid was diffrent from the rest out there at this moment. 2013 Deontay wilder takes the crown for the WBC Heavy weight championship of the world!!

http://www1.pictures.gi.zimbio.com/Clemente+Russo+Deontay+Wilder+Olympics+Day+EVUz6Twtajul.jpgActually Wilder isn't being hyped at all. Thats why I did this post. He needs more spotlight, media coverge. Maybe that will push his career. If he was a male white American who won 2007 National Golden Gloves Heavyweight Champion ,2007 National AAU Heavyweight Champion
,2008 Qualified as a heavyweight for the United States Olympic Team
,2008 Heavyweight Bronze Medalist for the United States at the Olympics in Beijing, China he would be plastered all over the media. Its hard for a black man in America, we get no free rides. If he makes it, then that means that he paid all his dues. For those who love American boxers, this post was for you. Lets support any hope for an American Boxer. Hes not Ali or Tyson but he just might be the future with the right training. I mean judging by what I see in the heavyweight division he has the tools and Ameture accomplishments that only a few heavy weights have conqued, and he did it with no experince. To make it to the level he made it to in the Olympics he had to beat the best Ametures around the world. If hes garbage then what does that say about the level of comp out there coming up in the heavyweight division. Think logically for once. If he can make in the Olmpics then surly he can have some success in the pros.
Dude, don't play the race card; just because Wilder's name isn't being placarded all over the (sports) media doesn't mean he's going unnoticed or it's pursposeful because he's black. Actually there was a lot of media hype surrounding him before and during the Olympic games. I remember listening to a piece on NPR about Wilder's life story...
The reason why he's not getting any much press is because his team keeping him under the radar ( as you suggested btw, to develop his talent without the pressure). When they're ready to showcase Deontay then I'm sure ESPN FNFs would love to have him fight on their cards...

Theres plenty of boxers who have no chin, but have excellent careers. As a boxer YOUR TAUGHT TO PROTECT YOUR CHIN. Roy jones, Lennox lewis, tito trinadad, are just a quick few. You idiots dont know **** about boxing. You ride these dumb come forward brawlers nuts and think thats boxing. Pacman was ko'ed before and will be ko'ed again as soon as he steps in the ring with Mayweather or Martinez. Having a good chin is only 10% in the fight game. Just remember Roy jones, Lennox lewis, tito trinadad. There legends you fools, legends with no chin.

Why don't you make a thread about this guy? Not American, but far more deserving than this guy at this point in time.
I'd argue that this is a learning experience; moreover, there's many examples of current champions stumbling early on in their respective careers. Wladimir Klitschko, one of my fav fighters, was stopped early on in his career against journeyman Ross Purrity. Klitschko now is one the dominate heavyweights of the last 10 years..
he was stopped because he was gassed not because of a failed chin
Wilder has bad whiskers man maybe he can hide it with better D but it will fail him
and badly
One thing I love about TIME is it tells all. I see alot of ability in this kid. Will he learn to use it I don't know. I do know that from what I've seen is that he has more than the k. brothers. All they have is a good 1 2 punch. Also they use there jabs. The younger brother does not have a chin at all. They are very predictable. If it were not for there size they both would be garbage fighters, because theres nothing speacial about them other than size. If they were 6ft 1 in there both would have been ko'ed multiple times by now. Watching deontay he has carisma, and athletism. He has the abilty to move with rythem just give him time, you'll see.

I'd agree with this. But I honestly believe his skills are worse than his chin, and he needs a helluva lot of work to even be mildly competitive with top 10 HW's.
And no he isnt quick of hand or foot, like someone suggested before. He's even slower in his mind. He needs a quality trainer to mould him, because right now hes just a tall guy who can knock taxi drivers out and doesnt look anywhere near a potential champion
the guy is a devastating KO waiting to happen
Sconiers had Wilder out
if old Harold can do that what's to say any heavyweight with a pulse and a punch can't do the same?
his chin will be a huge let down

Im not impressed with him at all right now. And his matchmakers arent doing him favors by feeding him bums, hes not learning anything...hell, last time I checked he started showboating and screwing around, instead of getting better and brutally taking these cans out.
Its possible that he could become a good heavyweight in a few years. complete career transformtions have happened before. but the guy needs a LOT of work, and his choice of opponents are terrible. theyre building a pretty record, NOT a fighter.
most people dont relize that it takes time to master the sweet science, and that most heavy weights never master it. The ones that do become very famous. Deontay is working on his craft the right way, when you rush a a kid and at 25 these days in the heavyweights he is a kid, they have short careers. Just ask Fernando vargus, David reid, frasico bahado, they were all rushed and what happened ? They had all the talent in the world but when you rush its over.

For you young New casual boxing Fans, Heavy weights develop at a much slower pace than others. This guy is very athletic for his size. He's hasn't even begun to develop yet. In the next few years with out lay offs, his body will mature and he will gain a few pounds. His body struture will be that off a V. klits. What seperates him from V. klits is his genes. Deontay has rythem of a basketball player. All he's missing is experience. He started boxing at the age of 20 I beleieve.
In that short time he has won 2007 National Golden Gloves Heavyweight Champion
2007 National AAU Heavyweight Champion
2008 Qualified as a heavyweight for the United States Olympic Team
2008 Heavyweight Bronze Medalist for the United States at the Olympics in Beijing, China. Thats pretty impressive for a guy so green and learning on the job. What else can this guy accomplish with a little time. I think eventually he add a new coach to his team. Manny Stewart,Floyd sr, or Naseem R. would be great for him. He has recently join Gloden boy promotions. The sky is the limit for this kid.
Just keep watching. In a few years some of you na sayers will be back on here D#$K RIDING Deontay Wilder the undisputed Heavy weight champion of the world. Mark my word!!

This guy needs so much work, it's not even funny. He'd be severely beaten by any of the top heavyweight contenders. Defense is atrocious, making himself a sitting duck for fighters that match his size and reach.

He doesnt look up to much as of yet. Sure enough he has dynamite in that right hand, for sure hes got top 10 power. Its a shame for him that his skills are so way below average its embarassing, he needs a quality trainer to work on him ALOT.
He isnt 'Tyson-esque', because Tyson was blessed with skill, superhuman speed and physique and ability in making his own style work. The only similarity is the amount of KO's in the 1st round and his record is unblemished.
Im always one for a devastating puncher at HW, but this guy needs work, because even someone like Arreola would be able to outbox him as things stand. he needs a solid trainer, clever steps up in competition over the next 2 years or so and to improve his fitness.
Until then Ill hold back on the Deontay bandwagon
He lost in the olympics to a small italian guy eh? so?
Thats two completely different types of boxing jackass, and guess what he made it to the olympics in a country the size of America. Losing a few fights, especially in the amateurs doesn't mean ****. All the great lost fights, Ali, Frazier,Hagler, Leonard, Robinson, etc etc now hes nowhere near those guys(yet?) but losing in the olympics is far from a black mark on someones record.
Thats the problem with boxing, all these new idiot pactards and flomos who dont know anything about the sport at all. People thinking a few losses mean a fighter sucks, ITS FIGHTING ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN.

I agree with this statement. Wilder did not have an extensive amateur career like many of his Europeans hw peers and is learning his craft gradually. Why the rush? With the Klitschko brothers dominating the hw division, and seemingly unbeatable, why rush through the ranks to face one of them.
My only criticism however, is the level of competition he's been facing. He should be gradually stepping it up, but his team seems to be content with facing opponents who have no business being in boxing ring and would look more at home eating at a buffet table. His opposition has been bad, to say the least..
