Or is it just the same as alot of orthodox fighters? they dont struggle but they have to adjust to something not so familiar. from what i can remember Floyd had few problems with Corley, Zab or Mitchell?
Zab started great but faded and lost his head, he beat Corley and Sharmba with UD and KO respectively so I dont understand where this is coming from.
So does Floyd really struggle? because for my money, hes never really struggled at all
yes he does..........he will excel fighting.........a green.......1 fight remove from his weightclass southpaw though.....................
why are.........all of..........you.........guys... typing like..........this..........lately?
Floyd seem's to manage to do it
thats coz the best southpaw floyd has ever fought was zab judah.....and he was coming off a loss to a bum.....cho chop was too...mithcell just did'nt have anything...all the other soutpaws he fought were bums.....ortiz is the most credible southpaw opponent
just like to clarify, I dont think Mayweather struggles with southpaws at all, but that seems to be the general consensus on NSB
not so much that he has trouble with the southpaw style itself as he has trouble putting it togther against southpaws.
Fighters like floyd like to anticipate their opponents next move. So he sees the straight left coming but has to fight his own reflex of turning the opposite way. he adjusts eventually but those early lapses are what make it seem like he does to the untrained eye.
Ill tell you what floyd truly has problems with is speed and unconventionalism. Speed to get past floyd's one,two before he goes back into a shell and not being able to predict an opponents next move from being unconventional.
I sincerely believe that Floyd will be most vulnerable in the first four rounds (regardless of the opponent).
The deeper they go into the fight, the more Floyd asserts his dominance over Ortiz.
I don't think Floyd struggles with southpaws so much as he struggles with speed and pressure. If Zab had not mentally collapsed as he tends to do, he would've been more competitive.
I've said it numerous times before:
-Oscar was up on the scorecards after the first four rounds of his fight with Floyd
-Hatton had Floyd uneasy with his quick footspeed and relentless, albeit reckless, pressure in the opening rounds
-JMM was able to land some decent shots in and even tagged Floyd with a great straight right in the second round.
-Mosley, enough said. The first two rounds were both for Mosley or at least one of them were. Mosley struck Floyd early with a massive bomb.
Which brings me to my next point: Ortiz straight left and right hook to the body will be his key weapons going into the fight. I'd be willing to bank more on a straight left finding its home, though, specially early on.
sort of.
I think hes more weak to southpaw right hooks than southpaws overall, since Corley caught him and hurt him with that punch a few times and Judah dropped him with it.
Not particularly.
He can't use the sholder roll as effiecently whereas against an orthodox he uses it a huge bulk of the time.
But not really in all honesty.
NO HE DON'T!
A few of them landed some big shots on him...but in the end they ALL GOT DOMINATED! So how is that "STRUGGLING"
but at the same time Southpaws are always a little difficult to deal for most Right Handed Fighters especially a GOOD SOUTHPAW!

Mayweather struggles against southpaws...
Zab won 4 rounds according to scorecards, he lost by one point according to me because they didn't count a knock down.
Mayweather is a great fighter, but he didn't look great against Corley or Judah, even his father floyd senior admited Floyd should avoid left handed fighters...
Ortiz is complete **** (a draw against Peterson, a loss to Maidana, a hard win to average overrated Berto) but he won't be easy for Floyd.
Ortiz is a fresh name but he's nothing in the WW division, Berto always was a paper champ.

all southpaws give orthodox fighters problems. southpaws even give other southpaws problems.
I expect ortiz to do better than corley or sharmba because ortiz is a lot bigger than those two.
not sure if ortiz can do better than judah though, I'm thinking he can over the entire fight, but not by much.
